Heading 4 weight change

   I know the average person probably doesn't use Heading 4 much, but I just had occasion to use it, and I notice that it looks more prominent than Heading 3 - which makes it look pretty peculiar in a hierarchy.  Any chance that could be adjusted?

      Sure. I think just a bit smaller would help. I'll use your Hub as a guide, it does look a bit strange there.

         Hi Derek, I also want to point out that heading 2 and the subtitle are almost the same size, at least they look the same to me.
         
         Could we get a different color for the subtitle like deep sea blue or something? I think that wold not throw off the aesthetics and would make the subtitles be more prominent.

         Derek, I have to agree with everyone else - 'all caps' is not a solution.
         
         You're aware that on the web, 'all caps' is used for emphasis (SHOUTING). Any heading that uses 'all caps' is bound to look more important than other headings, no matter how small you make it.

   I don't know if it's to early in the morning for me, but when you say Heading 4, do you mean the font size and thickness?
   As Aldene commented she and many others are not on your level at the moment.

      Heading, or <h> tags, are used to specify topics. They go from <h1> which is the title, to <h6>, with each being a sub-set of the topic above it. For example, let's say I want to write a post about dogs. Dogs would be my <h1>, then I would want to have a part about bully breeds, so that would be <h2>, since it is still about dogs, but a little more specific. Next I could have pit bull type dogs as an <h3>. A section about the American Pit Bull Terrier would be an <h4>, aggression an <h5> and human and animal aggression both as <h6>'s
      
      On HP, you're title is an <h1>, and section title's are <h2>. You can only have 1 <h1> tag per page, so you don't want to add anymore of those, but you should add at least some <h2> and if you can <h3> tags to all of your hubs. Normally you don't want too have too many <h4> through <h6> tags, because as you can see from my example above, usually you would have to start at a fairly broad topic to get down that far. There are some situations where you can, but not too often.

         So if I read you correct, Marisa is saying <h4> is her best title!
         If this is so, why was it not her first choice or is this something where you only find out with time.

            She is probably using it for a sub, sub heading in a long, categorized hub. H4 shouldn't look bigger than H3.

            I'm actually using H4 exactly as you describe.   I doubt I've ever used it before, but I happened to need a sub-sub-heading yesterday and was surprised at how H4 looked.
            
            My weak attempt at humour obviously went down like a lead balloon!

   I think this refers to the drop down options in the text capsule/module when you are making a hub. It is one of the choices you can use. Tell me if I am wrong, as it is early morning here.

   I thought it was about diet too. Anyway, I'd sick with h1 to h3 tags. One site I know that stays at the top uses span and size 36 to rank well.

   H4 is now a disaster. It used to be the only way we could format poetry correctly as it allowed single line space between lines and double at the stanza breaks. Now it is rendering everything in Upper Case and also double spacing the lines.

   This change of level-4 headings to ALL CAPS was made more two days ago--but still recently. The headings did indeed need attention in order to better distinguish them, but what's been done wasn't helpful.
   
   A further change they made was to level-3 headings so they come out in serif, which clashes with all the rest that is sans serif. But the worst part of it is that the characters have a squatty aspect ratio. When they shortened the character height (with respect to level-2 headings), they forgot to slim the character width.
   
   Furthermore, both level-3 and -4 headings have more space before them than level-2 headings do, which should not be. This problem was probably pre-existent, and should be corrected by increasing the space before level-2 headings to at least what separates two text paragraphs. (No heading or paragraph type is doing a full double space anywhere.)
   
   @Paraglider is going to disagree with at least part of my last paragraph. A subheading should never have been allowed to have tighter spacing than normal text. I don't know of another way to achieve his desired effect, but single-spacing any level of heading isn't right.

      Howard - I do actually agree with you. HTML is a mark-up language and tags should be used appropriately. A line of poetry is not a heading of any sort and therefore should not be enclosed in Header tags.
      That said, it was the only pragmatic solution available on Hubpages, because there was no way to insert the BR tag into paragraph text, so all poems ended up double spaced, unless you encased each stanza in H4 tags.
      As I've said before, tweaking the font is one thing; rendering text into upper case is quite another!
