Would you recommend it?
For me it would have to be Into The Wild. The true story of a young man who left everything behind to live his life alone in Alaska. Very very moving, great soundtrack and just makes us remember that life is what you make it or want it to be.
is that the one where he died of eating something poisonous
I agree with you about "Into the Wild". So many messages, the pennies were still dropping days later.
I would also add "The Kite Runner" - a powerful, moving story which packs an emotional punch.
Ooo read the book! It was good. You're right though, amazing story and good soundtrack. That Eddie Vedder song gets me every time!
I would have to say Power of One. It was a moving film about a british kid growing up in South Africa during WWII. Awesome! Morgan Freeman stars in it!
Power of One..is certainly the movie that has moved me most.
Of recent films, Into the Wild is powerful and the soundtrack is amazing, best stuff of eddie vedder's career in my opinion
have to give a nod to american history x and gran torino, both movies that enraged me, eastwood singing the final song in torino is a very bittersweet experience for me
The movie with all those ex-lax commercials moved me more.haha
american beauty. THE perfect american film ever made in my humble opinion. I loved into the wild, vedders soundtrack is a revelation, and i had a similar trip that mcandless did, where i traveled across the country for two months, but American Beauty moved me more, so to say. There will be Blood would come in at number 2. Just my $0.02
Its so weird how we all view different films isn't it? I hated There Will Be Blood lol.... and yes, see Hurt Locker!
I couldn't agree more.
The scene in American Beauty where they are staring at a simple plastic bag, blowing in the wind, yet stuck in the same wind cycle, was so moving.
Think of all the social taboos this movie presented:
1. Homosexuality
2. Marital issues/Divorce
3. Drugs
4. Adult/minor sex
5. Troubles at a job
6. Overbearing parent with sexuality issues
7. Teenage angst
8. Self-confidence issues
This movie makes you realize that we are all "stuck-in-a-rut" and live our lives this way because we are scared of change. We get comfortable and forget to look "at the beauty in the world."
Every time you watch this movie, you can get something new out of it ![]()
hmmm, a few, I'll pick the most recent~
The Hurt Locker
it moved me beyond words. a realistic portrayal of an EOD unit in Iraq.
http://thehurtlocker-movie.com/
i guess i missed the point of "newest first", uhh.... the wrestler, although i reaaalllly want to see the hurt locker
Cinema Paradiso and Il Postino are the only films that ever brought tears to my eye...go see 'em yourself and you'll find out why.
Italian cinema just seems more poignant than US films.
il postino was a great film, but stood no chance to win best picture against pulp (should have won), gump, and shawshank. check out my review of il divo if you are a fan of italian cinema. an AMAZING portrait of 7 time prime minister giulio andreotti.
as for the other posts about the hurt locker, i'll wait for the DVD release. i work in a video store, so it will come... hopefully sooner rather than later
Two excellent films. I prefer European movies, especially French films.
Films that have most moved me have been 'Platoon', 'Schindler's List' and 'Midnight Express'. But also 'It's a Wonderful Life' is still magic decades later.
What Dreams May Come..... it was very touching about Life and Death and the 'there-after', I can watch it over and over. Kudos to Robin Williams and Cuba Gooding.
"Girl, Interrupted" Just because I can associate with the main character ALOT and have been through some of the stuff she went through.
I like Notebook
I like secret life of a shopholic, as i enjoyed all books in that series
I like Nuts it reminds me of my sister
Funny Girl
As good as it gets
Yes American Beauty is @ the top of the list for me too... the scene with the blowing red flower petals stays with me.
I love the Notebook, The Pianist, and Painted Veil, but "The Boy In Striped Pyjamas" was heart wrenching. The story is set during World War II, seen through the innocent eyes of an eight-year-old son of a commandant at a concentration camp, his forbidden friendship with a Jewish boy on the other side of the camp fence. The ending is startling, with unexpected consequence. A must see movie.
As far as emotional impact, I'd say Sophie's Choice and Schindler's List.
Schindlers list started a little while ago on hbo.... not really a 1 oclock in the afternoon kind of movie lol. that movie did come to mind though
Well 'The Way We Were' made me cry because I had to see that instead of 'Th Exorsist'!
Seriously probably 'Cinderella Man' and 'A River Runs Through It'.And hold on this is one I was dragged kicking and screaming to 'Kinky Boots'. There I said it!
August Rush, was a very moving movie for me. It was a great movie! Just because things don't happen the way you plan, doesn't mean the plan won't still happen. If you haven't seen this, and you are a romantic musician, you will love this movie.
A big one that hit me just recently was Lars and the Real Girl. My Dad, Mom and I were all cryin' our eyes out at the comepletely unexpectedly. It touched because its mostly about family is who just flat out there for each other, and it makes you realise that are really are people out there who care far beyond what you think they do.
Lord of the Rings. Seems silly but it really did move me, especially one scene where they are talking about whether to kill Gollum.
Gandalf said
"Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them?"
That quote has changed my entire point of view on many things.
The movies are so long and the story is so big that when I watch it I get choked up
can't even help it.
As a young kid, it was undoubtedly Land Before Time. When Littlefoot's mom dies and they cue the soul-crushing choral music I fall to pieces.
As an adult, I spent about 30% of the documentary film Young@Heart bawling my eyes out. My tear ducts were like a running faucet - it was ridiculous.
Has anyone ever seen a movie that is so devastating that their body's response is to just shut down and not react? Dancer In the Dark, Nobody Knows, and Ponette were like that for me.
Blood Diamond...
All my life I grew up a Leonardo Dicaprio hater. I just hated the guy! His role in Blood Diamond made me realize how talented he really was. It was an awesome story...rich and sad.
RAISING ARIZONA
...goes to show opposites can attract, people cant always get what they want, and many people do have more than they deserve when other people have nothing..it shows how life really goes round in society
I have to say it's 'The Way We Were'.It touch my heart and make me cry.
" Passion Of The Christ" it made me truly realize which direction I needed to take my life. ![]()
End of the Spear - true story about a group of missionaries who go to the Amazon jungle to find the Waodoni tribe. It is a powerful story of forgivenss that leaves me in tears every time I watch it.
Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War
It's hailed as perhaps the best movie depicting the Korean War. The scenes are gritty, the acting is superb, and the storyline is perfect. In some ways, I think it better than Saving Private Ryan which had about 5 times the budget.
Passion of the Christ
Schindler's List
Sophie's Choice
Steel Magnolias
Reasons for the first 3 are pretty obvious. Steel Mags because I'm a Southern woman and can relate. I also have a daughter with health problems, just as Sally Fields did in the movie.
Fried Green Tomatoes - its a rare instance where a town sticks together for a good cause , where everyone has each others back and truly are friends .
Schindlers List-
Oskar Schindler is a vain, glorious and greedy German businessman who becomes unlikely humanitarian amid the barbaric Nazi reign when he feels compelled to turn his factory into a refuge for Jews. Based on the true story of Oskar Schindler who managed to save about 1100 Jews from being gassed at the Auschwitz concentration camp. A testament for the good in all of us.
Cinema Paradiso damn near made me cry ! One of the best films ever made hands down .
There are a lot of documentaries that have moved me and changed the way that I think.
Which movie moved you more than any other and why?
Earthquake. It knocked me out of my seat ![]()
Miracle at St. Anna is probably the best movie that I have ever seen. Another one that I just saw very recently is called Felon. That is a close second.
I'd say "To Kill A Mockingbird" moved me most. It touched on such a sensitive and true issue.
I can't name them all but there are quite a few... 'To Kill A Mockingbird', 'Must Love Dogs' 'take the lead' 'Step Up' ...and more!
"It's a Wonderful Life." If this movie doesn't move you, especially during Christmas time, check your pulse ![]()
THE WALL, PINK FLOYD....
I cant tell you how or why, but it makes me feel every emotion possible during 1 movie!!!
What dreams may come. A story of the afterlife when the husband who died before the wife, pulled her out of pergortory after she killed herself. Reason was, she missed him so much she couldnt live without him.
This touched me because I feel that this demonstrates life after death. If you get this movie, you will know what I mean.
Also, Meet Joe Black. When death, the grim reaper, comes for a holiday on this earth plain learns about the riches of life. He falls in love and discovers the joys of peanut butter! I love this movie because it is about learning of what is important... love, life and giving of yourself.
God, there are so many to choose from for a cinema buff like me. But I'll do my best just to name a few.
To Kill a Mockingbird - A great story about justice, childhood, and racism. Heartwarming and at the same time heartbreaking. Atticus Finch is one of the greatest heroes ever.
Secretary - A movie that redefines what love is. Quirky and elegantly done, it's a movie too intimate to watch with anyone else.
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? - Controversial in all the best ways, a love story that challenges racial and social stereotypes. And Sidney Poitier is absolutely brilliant.
Gran Torino - Epic. Clint Eastwood at his finest in directing and acting. Infused with humor and real grief, truly and utterly heartwrenching.
Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna - A movie that presents four people in two relationships that are amazingly realistic. The songs are unforgettable, the dialogue sharp, and the emotions completely genuine.
Pi - A film that makes you question reality. Strange and brilliantly executed, every time you see it there's something new to learn.
American Beauty - A haunting message amid well aimed shots at suburban mediocrity. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll be better for it.
That's all for today. Cheers!
Gran Torino was amazing. It proves that within every person [normal person] lies a feeling, caring being even if you're a curmudgeon. Also Bridges of Madison County, a hidden desire fullfilled in a few short days before going back to a reality her children didn't appreciate until it was too late.
The Day The Earth Stood Still.
Because it shows that we do not always know what we think we know and that when we assume, we make an ass out of u and me.
ANEE OF GREEN GABLES/AVONLEA, because of it's portrayal of warmth and love, of childhood joys and sorrows, and of success despite trials.
There are a lot of films that have moved me. Recently, I saw A Love Song for Bobby Long on the Internet, and I liked it so much, not only because I'm a fan of John Travolta and Scarlett Johansson, but because of how the broken characters in the film interact.
Pursuit of Happyness, it shows what we humans are really capable of despite of anything thrown in our faces=)
Schindlers List
The Last of the Mohicans
Romeo and Juliet
The Proposition
No country for old men
brave heart
passion of the christ
gran torino
I'd have to say Letters From Iwa Jima relly left an impression on me. There is so little about the Japanese perspective during world war 2. So it's really something else when you get to see a movie such as this that shows them as human beings with the same problems and stuggles as the peaple there fighting against. Big kudos to Clint Eastwood for making that film.
It's a Wonderful Life and Pollyanna would be mine. I know that's two but both really show that there is really no way for us to see the significance of our lives on others. So often we just go about our day not realizing that each act, big or small, is effecting someone in some way.
Pay it foroward. Sad lesson that should be learned
American History X. This would be my favorite. It taught me alot about controling hate in general and how rage can poison your life. To the point where you miss what your living for.
