The 10 Commandments are a given. Don't list them. We know what they are.
I think the list of laws and commandments is exhaustive, particularly in the Old Testament/Tora. I'm curious to find out what ALL the laws and commandments are. Please list as many as you can and clarify why, by scripture, they still apply to us now.
For reference, here are the 10 commandments from Exodus 20:1-17.
1. You shall have no other gods before me.
2. You shall not make for yourself any carved image and you shall not bow down to it nor serve it.
3. You shall not take the name of God in vain.
4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
5. Honor your father and your mother.
6. You shall not murder.
7. You shall not commit adultery.
8. You shall not steal.
9. You shall not bear false witness [lie] against your neighbor.
10. You shall not covet.
Other than #4, all the rest are just common sense.
It is #4 that gives us all a day off every week.
You may not wish to keep it "holy", but I bet you wish to KEEP it.
It would take me at least 2 hours to list all the commandments in the bible, suffice to say there are many, most of them are nonsense of course, and are mainly just threats.
There are over 600 in the OT alone!
no wonder all these priests are molesting children, god did not command them not to do it, i'm sure coveting which creates jobs and security for everyone is much worse than thou shall not put thy dingdong in an eight year old's poop shoot.
Mat 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
Mat 22:38 This is the first and great commandment.
Mat 22:39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Mat 22:40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Very crucial. Thanks.
There are tons more. Huge numbers. What are the others?
Leviticus contains a lot of laws.
And it also contains the very important Leviticus 19:18.
No one's listing the specific commandments/laws.
There's a HUGE list of them. I'm trying to make as complete a list as I can. There are commandments about cleansing, food, sacrifices and lots of other stuff. I'm working on formulating the most complete list I can, but I would like those who are scriptorians to help make additions with references. It would be most helpful.
Thanks.
I wonder if it's humanly possible to obey all the laws and commandments. Curiosity.
Here is a good source as a start.
Only 613 commandments and laws based out Judeo/Chrisian scripture:
http://www.jewfaq.org/613.htm
They don't all apply to everyone all the time and under all circumstances. For instance, if you are not planning on eating locust, you need not examine them to determine which are clean and which are unclean.;->
But all of that is beside the point, if you don't actually subscribe to the religion.
Here's something to consider. However long and convoluted and silly sounding the laws and the commandments might have been, they couldn't have been any worse than the Code of Federal Regulations, which seems to cover about the same sort of minutiae.
http://www.gpoaccess.gov/cfr/
Did you know that the CFR has six references to locust in its title on food preparation?
Even the language and the tone is quite similar:
"Sec. 424.21 Use of food ingredients and sources of radiation.
(a)(1) General. No meat or poultry product shall bear or contain any food ingredient that would render it adulterated or misbranded, or which is not approved in this part, part 318 or part 319 of this chapter, or by the Administrator in specific cases.
(2)(i) Poultry products and poultry broth used in the processing of poultry products shall have been processed in the United States only in an official establishment or imported from a foreign country listed in Sec. 381.196(b), and have been inspected and passed in accordance with
the regulations. Detached ova and offal shall not be used in the processing of any poultry products, except that poultry feet may be processed."
How are poultry feet an exception to offal?
Is it humanly possible for anyone to obey all the rules in the CFR, much less know what they are?
You should see English law. Let alone the fact that we recognize common law. But - these are not laws handed down by God that cannot be changed.
And therein lies the difference. They were written by men - and we can stand up and have them changed (admittedly - it is hard work and the Government Inc will still do as it pleases) but - I would rather fight City Hall than God any day.
Because God is perfect.............. LOLOLOL
Crazy stuff, and good points as well, Aya.
Maybe the government and God have more in common than we imagined. They think similarly?? Just an observation....
Or maybe it's just people being people. They need lots of rules and if they aren't there, they invent them...
I think it's important to think of the Bible, like all other ancient texts, in the context in which it was written. Some of the books are just law books, and they read like law books, with all of the craziness that goes with legalese. Some recount measurements and parameters for building, and these may be interesting if you are an architect planning to build a temple, but are otherwise kind of boring. Some are genealogies. And some contain very interesting stories about battles and bloodshed, and love and sex,and jealousy and hate. Those are fun to read, and some of them even have a historical basis.
Nowhere in the Bible does it say that God wrote the Bible. In many cases the author is not given. Sometimes we are told exactly who wrote it, and the name is never "God."
The provision for the Sabbath was put in to guarantee slaves and farm animals humane conditions. Those who could not just choose by themselves when to take a break were given a guaranteed time off. Free men don't need that, because they can decide by themselves when to stop working.

When asked what the greatest commandment was; Jesus did not mention about belief in him or belief in his prophesized Resurrection, but he simply stated the greatest commandment was that ‘the Lord our God, the Lord is one’.

Did you know that there is nothing in the 10 Commandments that state "you shall love God".?The only mention of loving God with all your heart is mentiond in Deuteromony 6: 5 which is mentioned within His Covenant.

How can you love God and not all of His people? What does this mean: "If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen." 1 John 4:20. The Bible was written for everyone.
