When did other people’s opinion become so important?

How often do you find yourself scrolling past the news article text on an online news website just to read the comments and opinions below? Did you even read the news article text? Why do we care what other people might have to say?

Well truthfully it isn't.  What is most important is your opinion.  But it is fun to see how other people react to a story, how you differ or are the same as others.

It is weird how we all want to fit in!!!  And it is funnier to see how some people have to have a totally different opinion just to stand out from the crowd.

    All of it is EGO!

Maybe it all stems from our high school experiences... we all want to be the most popular or best loved!

Human nature.  Such a funny thing.

popularity is important.  in todays society, competition is fierce between anything.  Thus, opinions do matter.

Other people's opinions started to become so important when we stopped having our own opinions.

I have my own opinions and although I take other people's opinions into consideration they are of no real importance to me.

You should always listen to other people, whether you actually believe/agree with what they say is another matter however

I think people's opinion counts esp when we have not much idea or knowledge on how to deal with a particular issue. Getting opinions on any matter can only help diverse our thinking perspective on a topic and then eventually will help us make our own decision.

Other people's opinions become important when you choose to let it be important.

Well good question, and as you can see we are all delivering our own opinions once again.

As far as my opinion goes, everyone has an opinion and that's when the the ego kicks in, if your ego or I should say confidence is high, you will voice your opinion. I also agree very strongly with what CaravanHolidays has to say because you can only really understand things if you listen to both sides of the story. People want be heard, same as you want to be heard.

It's a give or take thing, but you can't think of your opinion in higher regard than anyone elses because they are all valid, just to you, your opinion will always be the "right" one.

I learned not so long ago, that your REAL Friends will tell you the truth regardless of how it may affect your feelings. One of my favorite quotes is "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. ~Dr. Seuss ... " I love this..... Of course, part of growing is taking self criticism and I for one take any opinion on this website as a learning experience. But as for life, I apply the wisdom of the Great Dr. Seuss.... smile
