How to Transfer Content from Another Website

How do I move content to HubPages?
In some cases, you may want to move content that you have created on another website over to HubPages. While HubPages doesn't allow duplicate content on our site, we do allow content that is no longer published on another site to be redirected or moved to HubPages. For example, Google Knol has been discontinued. Users that have written knols can move their content over by redirecting it to HubPages. Below you will find step-by-step directions for moving your content to HubPages.
Moving Content to HubPages from another Website
If you aren't given the option to redirect a piece of your content from another website to HubPages, we recommend moving the content by doing the following:
- Copy your content from the online source
- Unpublish the content
- Wait a few days to see if the content is no longer indexed by Google and Yahoo. (You can also login to Google Webmaster Tools and request a removal of your Hub from Google's search results.)
- Copy your content onto HubPages and publish
How do I move a Knol to HubPages?
Currently, Knol is having technical difficulties with the redirect. If the process doesn't work for you, you should take the steps mentioned above.
- Create a new Hub on HubPages with the title, URL, tags, category, and layout that you want to have for your Knol.
- Save your Hub unpublished.
- Copy the unpublished URL (not the URL while in edit mode)
- Go to knol.google.com/
- Sign in and click on "My knols"
- Under each knol's description, there is a link to set a redirect URL. Click this link and a box will pop up.
- Paste your unpublished Hub URL into the field provided
- Click "save"
Note that users who try to visit the knol’s original URL will see a page informing them that the page’s author would like to send them to a new page and be given the choice of whether to continue. Any co-author or co-owner of a knol has permission to set or remove a redirect URL for that knol until May 1, 2012, when they will be locked.
Duplicate Content Problems
When transferring over your content to HubPages, it is possible that you will receive a warning for duplicate content on HubPages and your Hub may not be eligible for publication. If this occurs we can help you. If you have followed the above steps and you are still seeing the warning, please email us at http://hubpages.com/email/help/alert/duplicate and provide the following:
- The URL of your Hub that is being flagged as duplicate, and
- The URL of the old page where you removed the content.
