How are your flash fiction hubs doing in Hubpages?

   How are your flash fiction hubs doing in Hubpages?
   
   I have some written material stashed away in my computer that could be published as flash fiction, nevertheless, I want to know if flash fiction hubs are worthwhile publishing (meaning get traffic and generate earnings) before I go through all the work of translating and editing it (as it is written in Spanish)?

   As of the present, my novel is receiving what I would term "fair" traffic. I have yet to generate any earnings through it.
   It would be nice if someone would comment either one way or the other. Posting a chapter or so every day and receiving silence in return is frustrating.

      Hi glynch1, I tried to make a response with Flash Fiction and Short Stories .... Have you been networking in the short stories section? Are you commenting there, and sharing stories and making friends there? Using Google should be less affective.

      I realize it must be more difficult to get traffic and income from fiction than from informative hubs. Starting with keywords & tags: what could they possibly be in a short story?!?!?! I guess networking should be even more important in this case

   I began writing flash fiction and publishing it on HubPages in September, 2012. The first three short-shorts were well-received by my HP followers and a few other members who found them. Then I developed a series of short-short stories linked to each other, and have a few loyal readers who read each segment. After writing the last episode in the series, I'm going to leave them on HP for a few weeks, then un-publish them because I've decided to expand this material into an e-book.
   
   wtaylorjr2001 suggested networking with other flash fiction writers in the Short Story section, and that's a good idea. I don't "do" Facebook, which I know is a hindrance to getting traffic for my short fiction. Perhaps more networking with other short fiction writers on HP will be helpful for all of us. I do follow several other fiction writers.
   
   At this point, my money-making hubs are all non-fiction articles. If another fiction writer has good tips for driving traffic to fiction hubs (in answer to your question), I'll be interested.

      Thanks for sharing your experience, I am guessing networking in communities should be key because search engines won´t through much readers, will they?

   I doubt that you'll see much in the way of earnings from fiction. Traffic is possible, though.
   
   Why? It's all related to how earnings work. Let's say you're earning money from AdSense ads.
   
   Google chooses an ad to display based on the content of your page. An advertiser offers money to appear next to that content; some content is really expensive, because advertisers think they will be able to convert those users into a lot of money.
   
   With fiction, Google is going to have trouble figuring out what your page is about. As a result, it's going to have trouble matching advertisers with your page. This will lead to a) irrelevant ads (which your readers won't click on) and b) cheap ads (where you'll only earn a few pennies if someone does click on them).
   
   In the end, if you want to earn money writing fiction you're going to have to sell it (get published, self publish, sell eBooks, whatever). In that case, Hub Pages might help you find some readers and network with people, but it's not going to directly earn you much money.

      Thanks for your input brianrock. What you have said sounds totally reasonable. I knew something like that could happen from the fact that coming up with good keywords for fiction would be nearly impossible but you have made everything much clearer.

   Hi Claudia, I just saw this question while looking at some of the flash fiction that has been published on HubPages.  I have published quite a few ff stories here and find they are read quite a lot for about a week, then it drops off dramatically.  I keep them here because they continue to be featured.  I have also taken quite a few off the site as I have improved in my ff writing skills. 
   
   I have posted a question recently asking flash fiction writers if they would be interested in forming a group that would critique our flash fiction stories prior to publishing on HubPages.  I have been involved with such a group on another site and found it to be very worthwhile.  I looked at your profile and it doesn't look like you have published any ff here.  I'd like to know how you feel about a group such as I have described.
