   Unfortunately, I have a bad temper. In my older age I have learned to walk away and count to 10 before reacting in a way that I will regret.

   Use stress relief methods. Counting backwards from ten, pinching the skin between my thumb and pointer finger, breathing exercises, mental distractions, etc.

   Taking a deep breath, drinking a glass of water slowly, washing your face and if you are standing, sit down. if you are sitting, lie down.

   Silence helps greatly in controlling anger. Nothing else helps as much. Thus maintain silence and contemplate over yourself, do self analysis.

   Anger can be useful - if for example something makes you angry and you take that energy and do something positive with it.  Activism for example often comes about when people have become so frustrated with what is going on they become determined to fix it.  In that case, you are taking anger and using it for something constructive.  We tend to have the mistaken impression that anger is always negative - that's not always the case.  It can be - if it morphs into rage or the need to yell or insult people etc. that is not constructive anger, it's a temper tantrum and it is destructive anger.  In that case, you need to turn your anger around and do something positive or solve a challenge.  Complaining, arguing and getting mad doesn't solve anything.
   
   If someone is the source of your anger - for example they are emotionally abusive or angry themselves, move away from them and find healthier people to be around.  People who allow their tempers to run away with them lack self-control and they'll simply drag you down with them.  Walk away from destructive anger when nothing else can be done, otherwise, find a way to make it into something positive. We always have a choice when it comes to our actions, every day offers new opportunities to make different choices so there's no sense in staying angry instead - get busy!

   I don't very often get angry, but on those rare occasion, I try to get away from the situation for a breather and get some perspective. There are four in our immediate family and two have quick tempers, and the other two (me and my youngest daughter) are more easy going and slow to anger.

   The question is incomplete to the extent angry for a reason or without any reason. If without any reason then just concentrating both your eyes on the tip of nose will relieve from hidden stress or anger. But if there is reason, analyse it and see further reason to take it to logical end.

    I am hot tempered so I need get it out of my system and because I don't like to take it on people, I take a quick walk or go for a run, to cool my jet before I fire on. It is always good to see everything from perspective, from a distance even the hottest argument cools down...
