What they did back then was treason that's one of the reasons for the war. The other was, to protect the rich white slave plantations' lucrative profits, in the lucrative business of the African Slave Trade. States Rights.= The Slave Trade!
You are giving a modern-day meaning to a flag. It may carry that meaning today, but its original intent was to represent southern sovereignty. Today some see it as a reminder of the charm of the "Old South." It is a dark part of history.
The Flag also represents treason against the United States.
"Southern" Heritage leaves out the heritage of non white southerners!
Thank you for your response! The Confederate flag does negate non-Caucasian Southerners.
And the Nazi flag is also a "dark part of history". It is illegal to fly the Nazi flag in Germany and it should be illegal to fly the stars&bars in America. It's a symbol of Southern stupidity, hatred and oppression. Give it up already!
The Confederate flag is a very dark part of history. It symbolizes oppression and racism. However, there are those who see the Confederate flag as a "symbol" of the "good old days" of the South where segregation and racial demarcation were rampant.
Are these people who pine for the "good Ole days" delusional?
The "good ole days" for white supremacy" The "bad ole days" for black subjugation"
Every southerner did not own slaves. Every southerner was not a bigot, but few express those views. The war was about states right and slavery. It was was an effort to divide the nation. The confederacy would had never survived.

I completely agree with this. We should never forget history or try to erase it, but we definitely shouldn't keep this flag flying over state buildings when it is offensive to so many.
