Weekly Topic Inspiration: Preparation for the Winter
We are in the midst of a seasonal change, so for this week's WTI, I encourage us to explore various home projects in which we can prepare for the winter! What are YOU doing to prep your home and garden for different weather conditions?
I want to answer your question in details but I am not in the country where winter experience. Anyway thanks for your question
I'm going to write about it this time :-)
I live in India but I have family around the world and Ive been in Canada for the winter so I can surely write :-)
My first weekly hub:-)
I hope I can take my time with it as I'm planning on something big.
I prepare all summer for winter every year! I start out with a large garden and lots of tomatoes. The tomatoes become spaghetti sauce, salsa, catsup and stewed tomatoes - jars and jars of it. I stock up on things like pasta and canned foods, in case we become snowed in (or iced in) for more than a few days. It is good to keep bottled water on hand besides.
Another way our household prepares is to check the furnace filters, check and clean all the winter clothing and make sure we have a preparedness kit in our car filled with blankets, gloves and hats and snowboots.
Winter will come; it is inevitable. It is up to each one to be prepared.
Good idea for a topic. Right now is certainly the time to get ready for winter, at least in places where they actually have a proper winter with snow and everything!

This is the time I try to get dead plants either deadheaded or pulled, and drain and put away garden hoses.
Last November, we moved into a suburb of Oklahoma City. It was a record breaking winter ( and a likewise summer).....we were unprepared!
This year, we are giving the water pipes EXTRA insulation, have bought a small electric heater to keep them warm, even when the house is " bearable".
My hubby has built an insulalted storage shed to house our motorcyles, lawn mowers, and garden tiller. Last winter, they only had a make shift canopy to shield them.
We are stocking up on propane, have bought a bigger tank to run our grill, our water heater......no more, going to the store 2 x a week for fuel!
I am covering the garden grounds with grocery sack paper, to keep the weeds at bay and the topsoil from freezing dormant bulbs.
Extra weight is being added to our pick up beds, to reduce the sliding on ice.
The locals say........that the previous winter was unusual........I believe them, but over the last few years, the entire country has seen unusual weather patterns.
Still, I trust the time honored Old Farmers Almanac.
Some of our precautions are not necessary.......but who, am I to pick?
It's really cute, my nine year old daughter went to the dollar store with her tooth fairy $5.00 payment and bought Christmas gifts for the family. She is really excited about this Christmas and explains that she wants to have plenty of goodies for the fam.
I got an idea to shop on Ebay for cute and cheap things she can make and give.
We are doing cards, picture frames, with the children pictures, writing poetry, drawing, painting.
I think we shall hub about our home made creations and make it all evergreen artsy Christmas gift creations.
In the end I too am very happy about our fun.
Winter can be long and cold, but a winter with children who are unprepared can be an eternity! Here are some tips and ideas for preparing children and yourself for those cold winter days! read more
