Which is more appropriate, an older guy/younger woman couple or an older woman/younger guy couple?

With all the talk about cougars and MILFs, and the classic older guys  seeking the company of younger women, which do you think is more appropriate? Which combination do you think is more likely to last?

Personally I like girls that are around my age, but I don't judge! I think that love shouldn't have a boundary, so in my opinion both are appropriate! If there is love involved it will last, if there is no love than it doesn't matter, any relation without love wil not last long!

I was married to someone close to my age for over 20 years who acted older, now I am 45 married to my husband that is 63 and we have an amazing time in everyway -- wow!!! the best ever in a lot of ways , having an awesome  time and LOVING it !
We love the same music , snorkeling traveling ,cycling , love making, cooking on the fire.....
Age is a number - live life how you feel !

However we are an older couple .
When we are talking about younger girls I would reccomend someone 3-5 yrs older than themselves where possible

I don't think either one is more appropriate than the other.  People like who they like and it's nobody else's business.  If a person is worried that their relationship appears inappropriate, if that is really bothering them, maybe they shouldn't be in that relationship.  If one is constantly worried about what other people think, no relationship will last.

I think older guy/younger woman, but I think older woman, younger guy is okay if its only a small margin. It depends on the sitiuation, but in most cases I would say Older guy/younger woman if it was more significant numbers...

I think it depends mostly on the stage of life both people are in, but also the age of the younger of the two can make a big difference. Especially throughout the 20s, it seems that it's much more common to have a younger woman with an older man rather than vice-versa because women do tend to grow up a bit faster than men. However, once both have reached a certain level of maturity then it doesn't really matter. I am a younger woman and my husband is 27 years older than I, and other than some insecurity at the beginning (he was afraid I'd think he was too old and try to find someone younger, I was afraid he'd think I was too young and want someone more mature) the age has never mattered to either one of us. That said, I do see a lot more instances of older men with younger women, but I don't think the opposite is inappropriate either.

I agree with Wychic.   When young - I'm talking late teens or twenties here - it would probably pay to have a slightly older male.   I say this because, as previously mentioned by another answer, women tend to be more mature and grow up faster.   In the middle years - I'm talking late thirties and fifties - a decade or more makes little difference.   Compatibility is the real key.   And in those much later years, what does it matter if one is 60 and 75 or so?   Just so long as it accepted in one's mind that you'll likely be a widow or widower for a long time.   But even then, life being what it is, who's to say someone else won't come along.

I think there is no appropriate answer to this question, since it has nothing to do with being appropriate, but all with love. And love doesn't ask for your birthdate. I had all kinds of ideas, never wanted a big age difference, now I have 15 years and it is the best relationship I EVER had. It's about the feeling, not the numbers.

I think it is more appropriate to have an older guy/younger girl just because it is seen more often. Age difference only matters for a certain amount of time.

I think once you reach 40 and over then it doesn't look wrong at all whether it is younger guy/older woman or vice versa. But when people are young it is often seen as a weird thing if the girl is older because research HAS shown that girls mature more rapidly, though this is not the case in all relationships.

Either way, I say, don't let what others think affect your decision, if both of you are happy then go for it big_smile
