How did so many religions originate?
when there was just Adam And Eve to start with and religion probably did not exist.
who says it all started with Adam and Eve? The bible says that, but to assume that is fact is your view on the subject being discussed. According to the Bible the Earth is supposedly around 10,000 to 15,000 years old which means Adam and Eve must of been created 10,000 or 15,000 years ago. But if the bible is in fact true how do we explain the ancient Sumerian language witch is clearly much much older than 15,000 years old. On faith we assume adam and eve were the first human beings on earth, but that does not mean it is fact.
The idea that the world is only 10000 to 15000 years old is according to an interpretation of the bible, but not actually according to the bible- nowhere in the ancient texts that later became the bible does it give the exact age of the world or Man
Opinions differ.
Secularists think that religion 'evolved' in order to fulfill social needs in many different times and different places. Since the needs were so diverse, beliefs and practices were, too.
Religionists have even wilder ideas. None of the major religions' ideas agree in detail with each other, but a good many of them involve God telling some subset of humanity what to do and what to think, on pain of suffering eternal (or at least very lengthy) torment, combined with a perverse ("sinful") humanity rejecting that benevolent revelation in favor of something they just made up ("idols" or "false gods.")
According to the bible Adam and Eve walked with god. They and their offspring were aware of god so they really didn't need to build churches and ways to be one with god. Today I would say god has withdrawn from appearing and wants us to make the commitment to him through faith.
I think that ancient peoples tried to explain the world around them, the rain, sun, thunder etc.and as time went by these explanations took the form of doctrine and the masses followed the leaders' example.
Also when people died, the living had to have a reason that made sense and had a soothing effect on others.
If they were helpless in the face of disaster they needed a higher power to plead to.

Is the God of the Bible, the same as the God of the Koran, and Bhagavad-Gita.If there is one God, why so many different "scriptures". Why not just one book that tells the entire history of planet Earth and the entire cosmos?

You guys - I posted this in the Questions section, but because it turned into a full-blown discussion, HubPagers advised me to move it to Forums. Here it is:"Cult" is defined as a system of beliefs that doesn't work, but people cling to it because they fear "eternal hell"...
