What we believe is we all got gods in our heart, min, body and soul. Each time we do something evil, we are ignoring him! So, each time we do something good from our heart, the God in us does it. So, if this God talks to me I would never feel like, "Am I insane? Should I get it checked!" Do good and the God inside of you will guide you through!

It is my understanding and from past experiences that God may speak to us in many ways. He may give us indications that certain actions are needed, he may influence us by givings signs that tell us to do a certain thing, or He may speak to us in our minds. I am not familiar with a person actually hearing God speak out loud to them, myself, except in the scriptures where there are accounts of visions and angelic beings that have come to instruct those of God's will for them. Moses, in his fasting and time on the Mount was said to be spoken to by a burning bush and angelic beings and heard the voice of God when he told him"I am, that I am!"and that he was God his father and of Abraham, Issac and Jacob. They actually had a conservation, according to the scriptural account. So I suppose that hearing a voice is most certainly possible. No, I would not think that I was insane to hear a voice of God. I would be quite awed!

Based on the answers, I think the people here might be insane!

There are far too many logical and scientific answers for things that faith does not provide.  There is no evidence for any gods or deities.  People who hear voices, especially if they say it's a god, are insane, yes.

nope. It depends on our closeness towards God. The more closer you are  ,more happier you'll get to hear him speak , to know that he guides you everyday.

I think I would be forgiven for thinking that.

I know that you refer to hearing an audible voice.  It would be interesting and I may wonder about it, but I would not consider myself insane.

God speaks in a very mysterious ways unfathomable to human minds.  If He speaks to me in the silence of my heart, just like the prophet Samuel I would say, "Speak Lord, your servant is listening."

If I heard the voice of God in the same way that I hear the voice of a person standing next to me, I would definitely seek therapy.

Well, I wouldn't think you were insane - just a storyteller.  But Dave Matthews, now he is insane. :-))

i'm smiling while i answer this question because i new at least one person would claim they speak to god everyday and i was right. he knows who he is. as for me, i would not think i was insane, i would just think i was hearing things and go straight to the local mental health clinic to get my ears cleaned.

About 10 years ago (or more), I was laying in bed one night. I heard a very strong voice tell me to send a card to a dear friend's mother, who I had grown up around.  Startled, I actually answered out loud.  It freaked me out, really, and I resisted sending the card, even though the very next morning, my friend called and told me her mother liked cards (also freaky!).  I finally sent a letter in a card that ended up being very special and left me with no doubt that there was divine intervention.  I wrote a hub about it three years ago called "Why me, God?"  Yes, in the beginning, I questioned my mental state, but the fact that I haven't continued to hear voices tells me that it was only temporary insanity....
