Why do so many people believe that God doesn't love them when he sent his only son to save them?

You presume that people believe his only son was sent to save us.  Jesus was sent over 2000 years ago.  It's a little tough to have a tangible connection to that without a strong belief in God and Jesus.  If your faith doesn't already exist then stories from the Bible just aren't enough.

I'm an atheist.  I was raised Catholic.  I never felt a connection with God or ever felt any reason to believe God existed.  I wasn't bitter and I'm not today.  I just lack any reason to believe God exists and find no reason to believe my life would be better if God did exist or if I acknowledged such existence.

For people who don't feel a strong connection to God but still believe God exists, there is no reason for them to believe God loves them.  Especially at times of tragedy or extreme bad luck.

That's my 2 cents at least

They are blinded by doubts that Satan has placed in their way as a stumbling block to the truth.  Sometimes with all the bad you see in the world, it's hard to hold onto the important truths.

Take a look at th world honey. Most problems are caused by man but its difficult to love something that you can only have faith in and in this day and age faith creeps further and further from us.
Our world is plagued with disease and corruption and I'm sorry but God never gave the Jews a break.
Also the whole Jesus thing, what's not to say that others would go "what if Jesus was just a crazy man that cause a mass hysteria" With knowledge comes doubt. So I guess thats why

Sometimes people find it hard to believe because they could be going through traumatic periods in their lives.

Example: a member of a family could have been stricken with cancer or a husband lost a job and eventually lost his home - its hard to go through that and at the same time believe God loves you.

If there is a god, then he has far more important things to do than preside over the fleeting lives of individuals of a single species on one dinky planet. If there is a god, then it neither loves nor hates you, it is indifferent.

As for the biblical God, he is just an asshole. He knew all along what would become of the human race and yet he created us anyway. He gave us the ability to use reason and logic and then he set forth religious beliefs which defy both. He knew from his very first act of creation that a majority of the human race would end up in Hell. How could anyone love a god that condemns other human beings to such torment, much less think that God himself is loving? Then he sends his son down to clean up the mess he created knowing that people in other parts of the world and in the future would have no reason to believe such an event ever occurred.

We live in a fallen world in which there is much suffering. In the middle of agony and pain it's often difficult to see God's love. This is why it's so important for those who serve God to be an example of God’s love to others. By helping others and sharing what we have with those in need, those who are suffering see God's love in action and give Him praise.

2 Corinthians 9:12-13 This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, men will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else.

The reason I believe it's hard is because we live in a broken world. There is pain and suffering all around us. The only hope I can cling to in the storm I'm in though is the knowledge that I'm not alone. If there is not a God I don't regret living my life for a reason. For him, my savior. I believe he sent his son to save me, as well as everyone else. My sister Jacinda helps me there. She's gone through so much. It's been almost 3 years since her car went off the road and she hit her head. (16 or more fatalities happened along the same stretch of road she crashed on the same year)To this day she still lies in a semi-coma, but I know one day she will come out of it. God gives me peace. If I didn't have him to cling too I don't think I could have made it this far.

I don't think most people can't wrap their mind around what it REALLY meant for God to, literally, send his only begotten son here on Earth, in the flesh, to die at the hands of sinners and persecutors – at the very hands of the people He was trying to save! I'm sorry, but there's no greater love than that!!

And to a lot of people this is all a fairy tale and myth because we didn't see it happen.

And there's a discrepancy between our view of love and God's view of love. We express our love in the verbal or physical forms but God's love is wrapped in grace.

People are hurting. They don't understand why they suffer, why “bad” things happen to them, and why injustices exist in the world and may feel like they have no where to turn; all those things they know are obviously not love.

But Jesus is the way! God IS love!

"In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them."  2 Corinthians 4:4

There are many beliefs...but all those who have MET God, and have been filled with his presence and peace KNOW Jesus is Lord!

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."  Romans 10:9

He doesn't exist, therefore He doesn't have a son, therefore no one will be saved (or condemned.) It's fiction.
