Have you ever had a parakeet or other bird that talks for a pet, and if so, what did it say?
I had a lot of parakeets growing up for pets. The only thing we could ever teach them to say is "Hello", so I was wondering if you had a parakeet or other bird that could be taught to talk, what were you able to teach your bird(s) to say? Thank you for sharing..
Last year I bought the kids a beautiful blue parakeet. Sadly to say when winter started setting in I didn't know how easily parakeets could get chilled and unfortunately he passed away. But before that time he would sing a lot. His name was Stitch and he would say his name quite often. What was exceptionally cute about Stitch was this odd noise he made until we figured out that he was making noises like the squirrels in the backyard. During the summer he loved to sit in his cage and soak up the sun and thereby learned to speak the language of squirrels. So for me Stitch was a unique bird who may have thought he was a squirrel
Had a parrot named Bronco who would bark just like our two Chows. And I would swear he would say "let me out" first thing in the morning, But maybe that was for him ;-)
We had a galah named "Cocky" who would dance and repeat "Dance Cocky" when you said it, also "scratch Cocky" and let you scratch him....also "Cocky wants a cup of tea" and "Hello ". He lived to about 45 years old, but they can live longer.
Hi John (Jodah), hee hee ... what a talented, dancing and talking galah. Cocky was certainly cocky LOL. That is sweet about him allowing you to scratch him. Did he actually get a cup of tea to drink LOL? Yes, they can live a long life. Thanks!
I had a pet Eclectus which I've written about a couple of times on Hubpages. She said, "Hi, what cha doing, Scarlett?" Which was her name. She also said "Bless you" and "tickle, tickle, tickle."
I have a yellow-naped Amazon parrot. She says some people's names, hello, goodbye, pretty bird, wolf whistles, rings like a phone, and says a few other things.
In college I had a girlfriend who lived with her parents. She had a pet bird that imitated sounds and voices exactly as if they were recorded. It made the perfect sound of a phone ringing, someone talking, you name it. Once, when no one was home but the two of us in her room, it made the sound of the front door opening and her dad saying "hello". I flew probably three feet off the bed and did a Matrix-style horizontal mid-air twirl about four times before landing on the far other side of the bed in a scramble to hide. I think she said it was called an African Grey.
Hello Faith. I had a blue budgerigar when I was about 10. He was called Coco. I've never had such entertainment from a pet! We taught him 'Pop goes the Weasel', 'hello', 'who's a pretty boy' and he picked up the word 'walkies' which we said to our dog - it drove the dog mad!
Coco did have a tendency to mix up his words and often said 'Pop goes Coco'! He used to play 'fetch' too - picking up a pencil by a loop at the end and dropping it over the window sill. If we didn't pick it up immediately for a re-run he would squawk until we did. He also scratched his head under his bell. Dad and I cried buckets when he died.
Hi Ann, Thank you so much for sharing all about Coco ... hahaha what a hoot as we say here in the South! He was a multi-talented bird, and I know you both miss him terribly. Coco sounds like a one of a kind bird!
Thanks so much for the best answer vote, Faith! I'm honoured, thanks to Coco!
You're welcome, Ann. Yes, Coco was an amazing bird and well-loved no doubt. Hugs
