The main problem in listening is because our mind is preoccupied with something else, so what the speaker is saying is lost in the noise. But it can easily improve and get perfected with practice. Find a friend or family member who is willing to help. Try and repeat back what what the person says and ask if what you are saying is exactly what was said to you. Keep doing it for some time and the sheer realisation that there are gaps in your understanding of what the other person said will prompt you to focus better. Continuous practice over a period of time can turn you into an excellent listener. Any form of meditation will also give you the control on your mind which will ensure that the mind does not wander away on its own when trying to listen.
listening starts by concentrating and clearing your mind of any other thoughts.
To listen properly, you need to shut off your internal monologue. You had to consciously do this though.
Think of a question related to the topic expressed. Ask the question.
