Good riddance. It's a haven for spammers, scammers and gibberish.

Mostly gibberish. Persons who can't seem to type or think in English. That 'Alternative Prime' person comes to mind. LOL

In one way it's a shame because it flags up some interesting or amusing discussion on fun topics or on genuine searches for personal answers.
However, sometimes the questions are too political or just silly.
We do have a choice on which ones we answer of course!  Wouldn't that sort out the wheat from the chaff?
I don't ask questions often but I'll miss the option to do so.

It's good for people who don't like it, bad for people who do.....and it's another removal of speech. Like it, or don't....why do some always think the best option is to shut it down?
hint: there are about 6 people here who's words I roll my eyes at and skip over....is that so hard to do?
and.....can I have them removed from sight please?
If it's solely a business decision, OK. But I have a feeling the clique is behind this as well. "My speech or none at all"

Perhaps you should start your own website, so that things could be just how you want them to be - that would beat complaining against persons who did just that, and have it just so.

I don't need it just so. Im not looking to squash speech. I joined this place and expect to be treated as an equal participant. As far as answers...do you know, I can ask a question, but no one is allowed to answer...wtf is that?

I've always preferred the Q&A to the forums. I think I liked it because I wanted to be the guy who had the most 'best answers' selected. And I wanted to have the most questions answered.

I tried hard to help moderate this section. There are so many questions published which should never have been allowed to be published. I kinda believe that were the questions moderated strictly, this portion of the website would be profitable, or at least tread water.

Remove it, see how traffic is affected, consider returning it in another form. I have seen the most vile, redundant, ignorant and abusive posts in the Q&A section, including abuse of position/power by those who 'moderate' HP, better nothing than

I will miss it for awhile because it is part of my daily activity. I read the feed, the forums, and the Q&A everyday as a morning activity. I am mixed on it being dropped, yet understand HP's reasoning that it is a drain on resources. I have nostalgic feelings about the Q&A with my history here at HP.

I read all those, too, Tim. They are a way for me to keep in touch with HP when I don't have enough time to put together a hub. I think I'll miss the Q & A.

    2. tsmog profile image84
tsmogposted 6 years agoin reply to this

I think the Q&A was a means to get the pulse of HP. It has in the past led me to follow others, read their articles, and get ideas with at times inspiration and/or motivation to write an article.

    Demas

hp bit the dust on Q&A a long time ago. It is just now coming to the death throws. Just look at the number of views and comments received by this question.

With a supposedly large hubber audience the amount of hubber participation was paltry, and today it is even worse than paltry.

There should have been no problem getting hundreds to thousands of views on questions. And maybe 10% of the views as questions.

I have pointed this out many times during this year.

    Hubs
The same is true for hubs, and hubs is the prime meat of hp. Yet, with all the time and energy it takes to write a hub, the return on that investment is not there.

Some people think that the reason the question section exists is to spur the writing of an article based on the question. Sounds reasonable but it doesn't happen.

    Conclusion

The question area is already a ghost town, I doubt that many people will notice much less care.

The hubs will be the next to fall.

Which begs the question about the need for hp today.
Are the writers really making any folding money?
What is the size of the active members of hp?

This reminds me that another Hubber once wrote an article on how to preserve our hubs to CD's.  From your remark, it is time to look that article up again and get busy preserving our works, if we haven't already done so.

I think I have wasted a good amount of time and effort on 'answers' that would have been better used writing Hubs.  I think more focus on Hubs, and people replying to those Hubs, will serve everyone's interests in a better fashion.

I think a well moderated Q&A would have been good to skim out duplicates and some of the spammy questions to keep it fresh. In general, looking through the question feed recently it is a bit of an eye sore and in general I think they made the right decision in shutting it down.

I think people will just confine their questions to the forums. People like to think about this as getting rid of something because it wasn't helpful but if you think about it, its just streamlining the conversation somewhere else.

    1. bradmasterOCcal profile image50
bradmasterOCcalposted 6 years agoin reply to this

Do you really think that the Forum is streamlining?
Forums are not friendly, and when they start threads it is difficult to keep track of what is going on.

      imo

questions would be useful to test whether the subject matter is of interest to the audience. If there is little interest or no interest in answering the question, then it is hardly worthwhile in writing a hub on it.

Look at all the zero answered ?s

I'll miss the Q&A, although I hope people transfer their questions to the forums. I've always thought that 250 words limited the answers too severely but I've seen too many people chastised for asking something on a forum. A few misled hubbers said that subjects outside of HP subjects were forbidden on the forums. But then I felt like the HP subjects should be dealt with in the Q&A section and many of the question subjects should have been asked in the forums because there was more room to discuss the interesting information some people presented.
Participating in Q&A and Forums were a way I kept in touch with HubPages writers when I was working full time at a demanding editing job. Also this last year has been very hard for me personally because of health problems of myself and family members, one of which died. I have not been in the frame of mind to write for HP and haven't published anything new within a year. Maybe this year will be different. I will look forward to reading your discussions in the forums.

I won't miss it. For the last few months there have been too many spammers and too many vague and meaningless questions for me to waste time answering.  Even the typical political trolls that once lurked here were staying away in droves.Come to think of it, Q & A was far too easy for spammers to post their garbage.

  12. RJ Schwartz profile image88

I'm happy to see it go; although I have been an active participant in the Q/A, it's become nothing more than an invitation for Hubbers to argue with one another.  Also, some of the questions posted are meaningless and rarely lead to any actual articles being published.  The "thumbs up or down" part of Q/A was abused too often and answers would get hidden (usually because someone didn't agree with an opinion)

  13. Ken Burgess profile image77
    Ken Burgessposted 6 years ago

I have wasted a good amount of time and effort on 'answers' that would have been better used writing Hubs.

In fact, I can say that probably a tenth of all answers to Q&A I gave (maybe some Forum answers as well) I could have turned into Hubs they were extensive enough.

If people put more focus on creating newly published Hubs, updating Hubs, and reading and replying to those Hubs, it will serve everyone's interests in a better fashion.  We will create more substantive articles, and will have more serious and interesting interaction on them.

The great thing about Articles is that insulting, aggressive and derogatory posts are easy for the Author to remove.  The Author can keep things orderly and respectful, and does not have to rely on the whims and biases of a moderator to determine what is or isn't meant, or why something was stated.

But it will also cause tribalism. Many people on the right have deleted my comments simply because its me. Have outright told me "go where you're wanted, you're not wanted here." Discussion will be halted. It will be a mass of cheerleading squads.imo

It will be sorely missed.  The q&a section is one of the best, if not the best, feature on HubPages.   One is free to ask question & the answers oftentimes garner discussions without the nastiness & bantering which are present in the forums.   In my estimation, the q&a feature should have been retained.  Alas, it was fun while it lasted.

Using the feature to hone writing skills is one reason I participated, but it may be that without that distraction on the site members will actually spend more time discussing posts.

If they do, we may get back to the living and breathing HubPages we enjoyed so much in the past.  The scoring  by members' own rating system then was a definite plus HP might do well to consider restoring, don't you think?
