If hubpages added games to the site I think it will gain more viewers to the sites, outcome more potential earnings

I totally disagree. This is a writing site not a social networking site.

Ok, so does that mean we wouldn't be better off if some of our writers were playing games instead of writing Hubs?

I think we should require all new writers to win a Level I game of chess before they are allowed to post hubs.

Ktrina, as others have said - HubPages is a place to write.  The community is a nice bonus, not the reason for being here. We already get too many people joining just to show off in the forums or play silly word games - I'd rather not do anything else that would encourage more social butterflies.

        "Social butterfly" that is pretty.
I'm not a prolific hub writer and felt somewhat guilty reading your comment which, by the way, was not deprived of some gentleness.
        That's why I forgive you.

While I do believe it will keep people on the site longer and I am an avid gamer (and game developer),  feel that this site is a writing site and thus branching to other media may end up causing issues in the future.

Good thinking, though, and I'm glad to see there are people who are trying to come up with ideas instead of some OTHER people who just sit around and gripe and moan.

    I vote for Pong!

This could be an interesting thread. There might even be some carnage...big_smile

I disagree with it.  Must everything have a game element to it.  I love Hubpages just the way they are.

We already have gamification with the HP badges. I wouldn't be keen on seeing games added here. A bit too casual/ Facebook for me.

No, I don't think games would be a good idea. It would be one more distraction to keep me from what should be my primary purpose here and that's to write. I already spend too much time surfing through questions, forums, and my stats when I should be writing or studying the learning center. Your intention was good though.

If Hubpages starts sprouting cartoon monsters, points and levels, I shall run away screaming into the night.

We're talking a Luke Skywalker "Nooooooo!" scream, here.

I fear that I may be a little biased ... or, to be strictly accurate, traumatized... on this point. wink

I'd go along with punctuation, usage and grammar games, but any other than those, no. wink

Totally disagree! As everyone else has said "this is a writing site". Games are for mindless idiots who don't have anything better to do! (So is TV)

@galleryofgrace I happen to be a game developer and a game designer.  I not only have a part time job but I also am a full time student (in college).  I have a GPA above 3.0.  Am I a mindless idiot?

Obviously you were intelligent enough to capitalize on something that would keep the idiots busy.

I've been an avid gamer since I was a kid (my dad had an NES when I was born).  I've had a good GPA all through school. I've qualified and received grants and scholarships for school. I work 25 hours a week plus spend 40 hours a week working on college courses (either in the classes, studying, or working on projects).  Most, if not ALL of my friends, are in a similar situation as I am.  We all play video games in what little freetime we have.  It is downright insulting to that someone would ASSUME we are "mindless idiots" because you have some ignorant pre-conceived notion about something you clearly know absolutely nothing about.

I do not think that HubPages is the place to add games to the selection of things on offer here.

@galleryofgrace - I have to say I know some very intelligent people who are keen game players.  In the way that some people sit in front of a TV to unwind after a day of responsibility; some people prefer to play games. It can even be a social activity where college graduates keep in contact with each other. Challenging games and ones that require intelligence to complete demonstrate that the people engaging in them are certainly not mindless.
