Whoo-hoo! I've just had one of my hubs (about the Cardiff Giant hoax) selected as Editor's Choice. I'm really pleased as it shows I'm doing something right.
However, when I've looked through the HP Forum Comments about how this will affect the number of views the hub gets, it seems as though this honor may be a poisoned chalice. Has anyone any experience of the difference this honor has made to their traffic?
Never experienced it nor seen solid data regarding this being a bad thing. However, I see a lot of forum talk about it.
Given that there are reports of positive and negative effects, it's clear both potentials exist. However, the only way to find out what's going to happen to your Hub is to wait and see.
Thanks for your input JG11Bravo and relache.
I will never have to worry about this.
And I'm fine with that. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
If I ever do get an EC, it better be a hub that is not already getting traffic. Otherwise, I'd probably bail and click the EC-no thingy.
paradigmsearch, don't run yourself down! You never know what tomorrow may bring.
Traffic is good to most of my EC hubs. When I say good I mean in the hundreds per day (some in the thousands). But whether your hubs do well depends a great deal on the topic of the hub, how many people are searching for the information and the level of competition from other websites...
ie: a hub with low search traffic potential is always going to get low search traffic - regardless of its url.
Thanks Barbara and epsonk, I appreciate your comments.
I've also recently had one selected. Views seemed to go down, but that might just be timing. The Hub comparing Star Trek: Phase II with Star Trek Continues was only a few days old when it was selected as an EC. Page views might have dropped off anyway once the "newness" wore off.
This may not be a representative set of data, as I have only been writing here for about 6 weeks, and I have only just exceeded 1,100 views. However, I do have roughly an even number of EC hubs to other non-EC hubs (14 EC to 13 non-EC). I have just added up the number of views for the last 24 hours, and the figures are roughly equal.
Although it may be that the EC hubs would receive greater views if they were on my subdomain, I can only conclude, at this point in time, that it makes little, if any, difference.
Since we can only change the setting once every 60 days, it may be a little difficult to establish definitively, whether or not any difference is accrued.
Thanks humahistory, that's an impressive tally of EC hubs you've got. I hope my experience will mirror yours!
You've done well, Beth!
I haven't noticed (or more properly, paid attention to) any drops in traffic by the numbers. I can say this, however; when scanning my list of hubs, I more often notice the blue ' traffic down' arrows on NON-EC hubs.
No, haven't seen a difference yet. Some had zero views a couple days after getting the "crown". Traffic seems the same for each. I opted out when the program started because the specifics were not clear to me. I finally decided to opt in out of curiosity. It's a nice recognition of having made "stellar" hubs but I think it benefits HP more than the hubber. It helps the site by highlighting the best hubs to the public (on the HP Blog? or Twitter?, still not sure). The logic is that readers will read the best hubs but that doesn't necessarily mean traffic will increase. I think traffic is more likely to increase through organic searches. Anyway, it is a way that HP acknowledges and shows appreciation for our good work. So congrats to you, Beth!
Congrats on the accomplishment. I've had several hubs receive Editors Choice, but I haven't noticed that large of a shift in traffic. It's been very slim. If anything, I've seen a small uptick in my earnings. I'm still happy just to have been considered though.
You can report to Google. But chances you get response is low to none. Otherwise Google will algorithmically penalise them. Google bots are aware that your post has been published first. There are tons of bollocks who are not able to write their own staff.
I see no problem as long as they give you a credit and mention the source of the original content. But these morons don't do that.
Thanks DzyMsLizzy, janshares, sallybea, prospectboy, and Susana S for your good wishes and helpful info.
Congratulations Beth Eaglescliffe! You must have very good hubs to make it to the Editor's Choice. How I wish I can also have a hub chosen as editor's pick. I think I've got to read some of your hubs now.
I submitted two and one selected as Ec. That is a lyrical poem we were merged into one-lovers poem. I dont know how hubpages will promote. Lets wait and see
Congratulations Beth, I just got notification of my first "Editors Choice' as well, and am interested to see what happens, the same as you. Time will tell I guess, good luck.
Congratulations! Well done! I have 2 EC, but I still don´t see any traffics on those hubs. Well I have those last month and the beginning of this week, so they are still new. We´ll see what will come.
A couple of my newer hubs are EC. One did well at first, but leveled off. The other gets very little traffic. (It's not a very sexy topic, so I understand). My other new non-EC hubs are doing just as well, maybe better.

Hello friends,Today I completed 5 years at hubpages. In these years, I have seen a lot of ups and downs and learned so many things. I hope to continue my relationship with HP for the coming years. The traffic is going down on a day by day basis but I am sure it will come back up again once Google...

Many thanks to the Hub Pages staff for awarding me my first Editor’s Choice tag. It’s helped enormously with my traffic. And hopefully I can keep improving to earn more ECs. Thanks to all for the comments.
