Do any of you strongly contend that some of the content are merely elementary, even substandard in scope?  Do you further contend that many articles and particularly poems are just written without deep thought and analysis with the sole purpose of getting attention?   Do you maintain that the quality of hubs and poetry should be of qualitative writing standards?  I have read things today, especially "poetry" which literally took my breath away and not in the positive sense.

In my mind what makes good "creative writing" is completely subjective..

Some like traditional style long winded "moving poetry, while others like short Haiku that to me make no sense at all... I would rather read a good limerick that makes me giggle..

Poetry does nothing for me at all - and I don't care if that means I have no soul or anything else.... Even the stuff that consensus says is great just makes me go "so?" or "what?"

There are some deluded writers that churn out crap that they think is wonderful and their followers will always help them with thinking that their "new clothes" are wonderful...

Meanwhile - who searches for poetry? Is Hubpages the first port of call for serious poetry fans to go searching for new stuff?

That depends on what you are trying to say. Are you saying poetry ought not to be allowed on HubPages? Or are you saying poetry ought to be held to some kind of quality standards?

Gm can answer for herself, but I think she's probably referring to a troll account that was posting crazy-ridiculous (very funny) poetry to call attention to the fact that the poetry category has zero quality requirements -- anything will pass QAP as long as it is placed in the poetry category.

All hubs, including poetry, should be held to qualitative standards.

Agreed but I'll give creative writing the benefit of a doubt. There are some excellent poetry writers on here but too many people write nonsense poems for the sake of getting extra views quickly. Most poems are short and easy to write, which could be deemed unacceptable if not done well.

If this is a fancy way of asking "is there a lot of crap on HubPages?"... the answer is "oh hell yes!"

Keith, I was trying to be polite and politically correct in the premise.  If I said what I was going to say in all its rawness, I would have been banned for being vituperative and that WOULDN'T be nice at all.  So I did not want to go.........THERE.  Continue the discussion at hand.

We do not know everything behind close doors
And  it is never wise to force a door open when
Some one can be standing behind it, their has been much change here on HP, we have enjoyed much freedom of speech and opinions,  some many an income for writing , me personally no.
But I enjoy the hubers here I have as an interchange  I have been able to really hear what is truly on people's mind, not that I agree some time with them , but I truly appreciate their feedback, some people are nice some are not , some are wise some are not, some are just trying to get the truth of a matter , some not, but I know this for sure HP has been valuble to many, I happily include myself.

      1. profile image0
calculus-geometryposted 8 years agoin reply to this

It doesn't matter if one user thinks two poems by another user are trash or treasure.  You're missing the larger point to make it about you for some reason.

The larger point regarding poetry on this site is that QAP raters pass everything regardless of quality if the hub is categorized as poetry.  That's what the Diana account demonstrated with her hilariously bad-on-purpose and inappropriate joke poems, especially the one titled "Passing QAP." (And she did this over a year ago with her other banned joke account PoeticFailosophy) To be fair, I'm not sure GMWilliams gets that point either.

QAP is weak at screening the normal prose content on this site,  and completely broken when it comes to screening creative writing.

        1. SmartAndFun profile image94
SmartAndFunposted 8 years agoin reply to this

Yes. For example, two of Diana's featured poems which passed QAP were: "My Butt Itches: An Acrostic Poem" and "UnderBoob Sweat: An Acrostic Poem."

        2. Kylyssa profile image91
Kylyssaposted 8 years agoin reply to this

Oh. The OP read to me like a passive-aggressive poke at poetry hubs. I was wondering if a person who thinks poetry is trash would be willing to say, to their author, that their specific work is just trash that doesn't belong on HubPages.

Wouldn't it be easier to just say what you did, that QAP is far too lenient?

While Diana was making a point with the purposely bad poems, I'm concerned that what people will get out of it that poetry is trash that ought to be blocked rather than that QAP is a joke.

He/she left a comment on my Hub about the "Scooby-Doo and KISS" movie, asking if it was a true story. I replied "of course it is." big_smile

If you want featured hubs  , don't bother writing poetry at all !    Write the one thousandth hub about  How to  use a debit card correctly or some such nonsense !

I think the general dumbing-down of the readership (thanks to the failure of our school system), is worse than that, even.
If you want popular-to-the-masses hubs, you must write the elevnty-'leventh hub on the "Kartrashians" or "honey poo-poo,"  or about some male actor's "hot six-pack."
It's sad, that this country has degenerated to that level of shallow "infotainment" in preference to actual, useful information, and historical pieces
I, for one, refuse to cater to that mindset, and I will not write such tripe.  If that means my ultimate failure here on HP, then so be it.  I will then at least have my dignity and honor intact.

Well spoken like the true and noble lady you are.  I also refuse to write drivel.  There are some intelligent life out there.  HubPages is a place(supposed to be) where articles should be of high qualitative standards for a literate, intelligent audience.  Such people DO EXIST, believe it or not!
