Hark! An editor struck! One of my hubs got altered. Totally fine with it.

Meanwhile, what a day. Ended up having to walk three miles (cuz of that 82 Camaro versus State of California smog test thing). Net result though is that the exercise probably added a few months to my life, I do not do nearly as much exercise as I should.

Robocalls. When I get one of those; instead of hanging up, I just set the handset down. For every 10 seconds that line is tied up, that is approx one less person harrassed that day. This applies to landlines, cell phones I am clueless.

My plan was to be the last person in America to have a cellphone. I mean this $50/mon is no.

Side note: Lifeline and DSL (internet) is a major and seriously saving money option.

But I am getting a cell phone. No $50/mon plan crap. Burner 10-cent a minute phone to call transportation.

Yep. If I didn't, the whole phone/internet would fall apart. It is my understanding that a lot of people qualify for lifeline, but don't know.

I think more people qualify, but just don't know it.  Currently my daughter pays for my phone.  Prior to that I used Virgin Mobile.  I didn't want a contract so Virgin worked well for me.  My old landlord used to keep me updated on who was the least expensive.  Walmart has one called Straight Talk (I'm pretty sure that's the name).  Last time we spoke she said they were the least expensive.

My cell phone with no plan is 50 cents a minute. If I add texting for 15$ I get the low ball 15 cents a minute but I have to buy a 25$ phone card to get that feature. To add evenings and weekend feature (another 10$) I have to buy a 50$ phone card (55 with tax) because of the down times when local calling not covered. So, end up paying 50+ bucks a month. There is a special offer for 35$/mo. But that's a contract to pay every month. What if nobody calls? nobody texts? What if I make zero calls? or texts? Better to buy a 10$ pay and talk. Call a cab, whatever. You can't win with a cell phone. It sucks.

You are right. That is indeed highway robbery. And then there is the cell phone, itself. The decently priced ones will all turn into paperweights when the carriers discontinue 3G, but the retailers for some reason forget to mention that fact.

I got my 3G free so I'm just going with what I've got. Basically using it as a pager for work related stuff. Camera is handy.

Before I got the gov't. freebie phone for poor folks, I had a TracPhone. Phone itself was about $30., and I bought a card for minutes; $20 for 3 months service. No contract, no minimums .
Phone was pretty wimpy crap; only good for basic calling, no internet. etc. and it was really good at not getting signal inside of buildings, but it was fine for emergencies.
The freebie phone I have now works better, has a better camera, gps, texting, and internet, if I want, I think I get something like 5 MB of data before I'd have to buy note, but I don't use it much for that. Only requirement is I have to make a minimum of 1 call per month.
But to qualify, you have to be a recipient of either Medi-Cal or food stamps. That part got me the free phone, but I hate being in that position.

Welcome to America is right.  Snakeslane, I really think you could find a better deal.  I used to pay $45 a month with Virgin, unlimited calls days, nights or weekends.  I had internet and texting also.  I think my landlord told me that the straight talk plan was $35 for the same stuff.  Both are pay as you go phones, no contract.  I hate contracts on phones.  smile

I've used StraightTalk for several years and am happy with them. Until my wife bought me an Android phone I paid $30 a month. Now I pay $45 for crap I never use simply because it is an Android.

I've always had good service from them, perhaps it's because we have a Verizon cell phone tower on our farm which I can see from my backyard at night. Never had a contract and it's easy to pay online..

I also have only a landline. I will try the diversion thing, though usually I just ignore any caller I don't personally know. (My phone tells me who is calling.) Also, I have my phone set to be silent except from 8am to noon... so I don't have to hear it ringing while I'm working/writing. There's an answering machine in it if they really want to talk to me about something important. Most don't bother leaving a message.

I do have a LG cell phone I bought at Walmart 10 years ago for 10 dollars. If I travel long distance I buy minutes for it. The rest of the time it is turned off.

Yes, food and shelter are major advantages. I'm using a landline because I don't have any interest in being on-call 24/7. I live in an apartment with a view of a field in which there are 3 cows. They entertain me, so who needs a cell phone?

    Friday... Friday...

After yesterday's chaotic adventure, am looking forward to a peaceful day of routine chores and website work. Just did a lifetime Analytics monthly traffic check. The trend just keeps going up and up; still haven't beat HP though.

If one does not have a website, I so recommend starting one. It is just plain fun. One doesn't even have to pick a type or topic at first; just let the thing evolve on its own and wherever you want it to go. Use Blogger and you don't even have to pick a custom, real domain name at first; you can make that decision down the line whenever you are good and ready. It's a fun, periodically escaping-from-life hobby that will serve you well for years.

And considering the genre of folks who hang around these particular forums, sooner or later you will start making money from it.

    Risky Business!

As we all know: if we update or edit a hub, it immediately attracts an editor's attention and is reviewed; thus jeopardizing its continued placement on the network site. This is why I haven't touched my remaining hubs in the last 6 months.

However, I am desperate to increase traffic. So I'm updating all of my last remaining hubs. Did three yesterday; so far, so good. Will be updating more today. The neverending adventures of the online writer.

Meanwhile, the 'ol website is moving right along. Have republished most of the hubs I previously yanked from HP. Am happy with the traffic, but most of my visitors seem to be ad blind. Frustrating. Oh, well.

    And so it goes...

Worst case scenario for the really disastrous situations is of course to know when to just give up and move the article elsewhere. Hopefully, those days are past for me.

    Well Now!

I am on the HP Ad Program, but AdSense is going bonkers. Apparently, limiting them to one exclusive click ad forces the advertisers to really fight for it? 99% probability I'm just having a lucky day, but it would certainly be nice if this was the start of a new trend.

To dream the impossible dream, to beat the unbeatable foe...

Certainly an argument for staying with HP Ads.

The Internet is disgusting tonight. I cannot log out of HP; it tells me that page does not exist.  I cannot pay invoices on Paypal, 404 errors.  Is there some giant hack attack going on right now?

Must stay up for forever to get my invoice paid.

Trump and the State of California are indeed at war, particularly as to anything having to do with immigration or the environment. Having a president hating your home state is definitely not a good thing. He's looking for every way possible to screw us over, especially as to finding ways to withhold money that is normally distributed to all states.

Terrible.  The whole idea of  redistributing funds from blue to red states is un American.

If it isn't the fires messing with the internet and I'm guessing you've already done the whole reboot thing, have you tried a different browser? As an example, I've noticed Chrome is sometimes squirrelly with HP and Firefox recently went squirrelly with Blogger.

You are correct.  Chrome is acting up on me all over the place.  It worked in Edge.  I may need to update Chrome or something.  I can't send emails now either, but it works in Edge. Who has the time?  I need a nap.

A worthy 3-hour nap I had. Must have really needed it. Waking up all over again.

I've noticed earnings have really dropped dead for me this workweek. Glad Paul E. told us about how that is normal at the start of each quarter, takes the doom and gloom fears off the table.

Had a Facebook posting problem earlier in the day. Just saw on news FB is having glitch problems worldwide. Just thought I'd pass that along.

Meanwhile, slacker mode continues for rest of day. Back to another industriousness attempt tomorrow.

    Randomness for today:

I got an e-mail from a co-worker in another office, who happens to have the same name as a female '80s pop singer that I've been slightly obsessed with since I was a teenager.

Needless to say, my heart skipped a beat when I saw the name in the return address... "my dream girl found me!" ... then crushing disappointment when I realized it wasn't the singer. Oh well. It wouldn't have worked out anyway, I'm currently taken. (sigh)

Add: Rampant Rants and Rampant Conversations.

Meanwhile, Youtube will also probably show up, pesky new ads and all; good old days with less mandatory ads gone. Some of those videos are old time memories.
