Do you like Susan Boyle? If so, what do you like the most? Her song, her voice or how she faced all her critics and came out successfully? or something else?
She has a very good voice. Not spetacular, very good. Despite her critics, she was literally thrown into a lion's den of pop culture, contract sharks, and no insight on how to handle any of it. She had to wing it. Of course she came out swinging. Of course she melted down. That's called "normal" not mental illness or rage problems.
She'll gain her footing make some more mistakes, and learn from them. And she'll sell a lot of CDs, most likely, making her owners a killing, and her famous, living on a fraction of the income of her owners.
I like her. She is an icon for our day. Her success story is riddled with as many failures as it is achievements. If she learns from her mistakes, she'll be fine.
I have never seen her however, I hear she has a great voice. One of these days when I have time I will key her up.
All of the above. That woman has guts. And I'm sick to death of Hollywood's callous shallowness.
When i saw Susan boyle on the news here in belgium about her appearance and act she did, well let me tell you that i was blown away.
I and i think many people where thinking, what is she doing here, till she started, my mouth fell open, so good, so pure.
I really hope she get's a nice carreer.
I do like her, I love the underdog, always want to see them come up and out, and I admire how she took care of her mom, it speaks highly of her character. I wish her only the best.
I do like her. I think she has a really good voice, but she also seems like a nice person. I don't see what there would be not to like about her except, perhaps, the fact that she doesn't look like the 19-year-old pop singers we're so used to seeing; but I don't base "like" and "not like" on youth and a "sexy" look. I base it on talent but also sometimes how someone comes across in interviews. If I like the songs she puts on any future CD's I'll probably buy them. People who only like rock music are obviously not going to like her music (or "image"), but she doesn't pretend to be a rock star.
The Youtube clip of her first performance on the talent show still moves me to tears.
I think it's because I'm used to the same reaction to my dancing. I'm also an overweight, middle-aged woman and when I say I belly-dance, I can see the look on people's faces.
I've had so many good reviews of my dancing that I'm confident of my ability, but it still hurts to see that disbelieving look. It's gratifying to see how the expression changes if they actually see me dance - but of course, most people don't get that opportunity.
So I really identified with Susan Boyle when the audience rolled their eyes at her appearance - then roared with approval when she started to sing. How I'd love to have the chance to do the same on that scale!
I suspect there are a lot of other middle-aged men and women out there with hidden talents, who feel the same.
As for liking her - she's not the sharpest tool in the shed (she has learning difficulties) and she has had a sheltered life so her social skills are lacking. It must be difficult for her to adapt to her new situation and no doubt that's why she doesn't present herself in the best light.
In a similar vein to Marisa's post....
I LOVE the look Susan put on Simon Cowell's face.
To Susan and Marisa I say: Girl Power!
I ran into her website, and I was pleased to see how nice she looks in her picture.
http://www.susanboylemusic.com/us/home/
It isn't that I think she "needs" to look better, but the dignity and elegance of the picture on her site somehow seems to do her justice, in view of the fact that the audience's initial reaction to her was so prejudiced before they heard her, it was pretty demeaning.
Anyone who saw a couple of the unappealing audience faces, that were so quick to roll their eyes when she walked out, might notice that in the picture on her site Susan Boyle looks more attractive than a few of them. (particularly that not-very-pretty young woman with the head scarf on, if anyone recalls the shots of her)
I wish they hadn't PhotoShopped that picture to death. That's just not what I want to see.
They PhotoShop any celebrity's photo, but I think it's nice for Susan Boyle to be able to see herself in a different (even if it doctored) light. I don't mind that pictures get altered to make the whole thing more appealing. Besides, I'm not sure how much PhotoShop plays a role in the fact that she's wearing a flattering outfit, had her hair done, and is had the picture taken from something of distance. The picture - with the scenery and choice of tasteful colors - is obviously not a candid one, but I'm fine with that. Air brushing is what's done.
The other day I saw a picture of Felicity Huffman without make-up and air brushing; and I have to say, I don't think I really want un-doctored photos of un-made-up/un-dressed-up people becoming "The Thing". I think if Susan Boyle has earned her fame with her talent she deserves the sames "perks" that other celebrities get when it comes to make-up, clothes, and photos. We all still know her story, know that she's 48, and know she doesn't look like Heidi Klum. I don't think some air brushing and carefully constructed photos take away from any of that.
that's nice, thanks for posting the link.
Thanks Lisa for sharing the website. She looks very professional in this site.
I don't really like her, but she does have some miraculous voice.

Yes, yes, yes I like Susan Boyle. She had the guts to follow a dream. She also showed the world that talent can make a difference. If that voice would have come out of a young bombshell of a body nobody would think twice about idolizing her...
I say good for you Susan Boyle you go get them show them all what you're made of

Well, I am someone who hear music when I feel asleep, just to keep me awake. I have almost no interest in music. But after I came across the song by Susan, I always wanted to hear her. Its not just the song that attracted me, but the whole incident.
I was wondering about myself. What is happening to me? I never listened to any song in my life with so much interest. Susan comming to the stage, cool headed and with courage and conviction faced the audiance and how she stunned everyone.
Every time I see that first show of Susan, it gives me motivation to move agaist the odds. Sorry I am talking philosophy, but she really inspired me.
