Hey Kidgas -- congrats on the quick ranking, but I wanted to ask you just a few questions and also wanted to point out a couple things (just to clear some rumors up):

    1. Why are you trying to target 'SEO experiment' as a keyword? Just for fun? I ask this because according to Google it only gets 320 searches a month (and that's broad search) and only pays out the minimum amount per click, which is $.05. It's great that you're ranking for it, but I was just curious.

    2. It seems like you're concerned about HubPages getting 'slapped' by Google. I just wanted to let you know that currently we are seeing record traffic (most traffic ever yesterday) and also according to Google, more Hubs are getting indexed than ever before. So, as far as we can tell, we're good to go as far as Google is concerned.

    3. I would love to talk to you more about how you're going about writing on HubPages and how we can help you kick out some Hubs that will help you become even more successful. Shoot me an email through my profile and we'll chat about it, ok?

      Ryan--
About point 1, yes it is truly an experiment for fun to see what was possible.  The search volume was low enough and didn't pay anything so I figured that nobody would want to compete on the idea.  I would hate to discover a wonderful opportunity with a high search, low competition keyword phrase that paid a lot and open up the door for lots of people who wanted to mimic me.  I figure this way no one cares.

      2.  It's good that your traffic is good.  I was going by a limited sample set, namely my own articles, and the experience of Mark Knowles who noticed that some of his articles were no longer ranking.  Maybe my personal lower traffic was a result of my own crappy articles?  Who knows?  I am still writing here since the format is so easy and pleasant with which to work.  Plus I am still earning money and have earned more than last month on AdSense but that includes my blog and Xomba also.

      3.  I will shoot an email mail in a bit.

It's really, really easy to dominate a keyword (or anything really) where there's no competition. Just ask the unimpressed turtle.

Exactly, that's why I picked something that had over 24,000 competitors instead of just 97.  That way, it might have some practical relevance.

I'm very depressed now. I searched a bunch of my articles on that site, and noneof them are in the top 300. How am I getting so much traffic on them from google?? What am I doing wrong? The articles are well written, and even the ones with pics and videos aren't ranked. Help! Thanks!

Same here. I think I might be doing something wrong but not sure what (on SERP I mean).

Don't be depressed.  If you are getting traffic from Google, then something is working.  I, too, am getting some traffic from Google but can't explain it since I have a hard time finding many of my articles for some of the keywords.  Obviously people are searching for different phrases than you.

I would pick a few of my better articles and start focusing on keywords and ranking on those.  Look at the number of monthly searches and competition on Google Adwords Keyword Tool and Google respectively.  Read some SEO articles and it will start making sense.

If you are getting traffic but don't know the search terms that are driving that traffic you should take a look at your Google Analytics.  If you don't have it installed, it's a very good idea to get it installed.
