A while back a Kiva team for HubPages was created.
The 7 members there have loaned money to projects in the third world. I had a major chunk of my loans repaid today, so have reloaned this to new projects.
Do please check it out and if you like the idea sign up. You really can change someone's life for just $25.
I'm not promoting my hub, but as I don't have time to answer queries like "how does it work" etc, if you do want to know more there's info on my kiva hub at http://hubpages.com/hub/Kiva---Microlen … or-Poverty
I guess I am really hoping HubPages can drum up a little more than the seven members we have currently.
Do please join if you can and support getting people out of poverty!
how do you lend the money? paypal or a credit card? it sounds interesting...you can see the people and read about how you help them, which is very intriguing.
Thanks for reminding everyone Julie With our seven members we have donated a total of $1,200.00 right now... and I just relent $25 that I had gotten back.
It's fun, and you are helping someone who needs it.
This is very interesting. First time I've heard of Kiva. I'm reading through the profile and Julie's hub right now. Thanks.
Thanks for sharing this
Joined the group and made my first loan, feeling better already
Yes funride - doesn't it feel good?
Got home from the hospital yesterday finally after 2 days there (my Dad's dying of cancer) and TWO HOURS sleep the night before, got up this morning to a note from kiva that $160 of my loans had been repaid - so I relent it to other people.
In the middle of a horridly depressing time, it was a really good feeling to make a few clicks and do some GOOD for someone else!
Just joined Kiva under the hubpages team.
@Julie, I was sad to hear about your Dad. Hope you and your family remain strong through this hard time. Thanks for referring us to the Kiva site.
@Mark, thanks for your loan to one of my countrymen. The place where they are right now is just a few hours away from me.
@ Julie - Thank you for this.
@ emievil - small world. I hope it really makes a difference. I can barely buy 2 mangoes for that much money where I live.
Hey Julie. I was scanning the list of the loans for the team and you guys have really given a lot. Hope to see more members coming in.
Wow - great idea! As soon as hubby is employed I will be helping out too! Thanks for the information
Thank you for sharing this info here Julie. It warmed my heart a lot when people express their love and care by helping others. I am on my way to read your hub and to learn more about Kiva. Much love and light...
This is really good Julie-Ann.. I will join this soon as well
Thanks for the introduction.
Sounds like a great idea, am just gonna check it out now.
Just got back from doing some extensive research. I JOINED!!! and DONATED!! under team "HUB TEAM" Thank you for sharing!!
That felt GOOD!!!
I've been a member for over 2 years and for Christmas a couple of years ago instead of buying everyone in my department gifts, I used the money to support 4 people on Kiva. I love this program and can't say enough good things about it, so while I won't be joining you on HubPages since I'm already active in Kiva, I'm with you in spirit and would encourage everyone to participate.
Thanks to all of you, whether you donate or not! Don't underestimate or prejudge whether other people will want to lend or not, do publicise kiva!
This article is a bit upsetting

Has anyone here loaned money through Kiva? I did it for the first time today and it feels good. You can donate as little as $25 to help small business in third world countries; although they now loan to Americans. They money is eventually paid back and you can either cash out or invest in another...

I'm sure all you Hubbers who are here now have noticed the new logo.As the creator of the old logo, and as a designer for HubPages for the past few years, I was acutely aware of it's strengths and limitations. As we've seen HubPages slowly change into a vibrant community made of interesting,...

We recently rolled out a change that makes viewing hubs using a mobile browser a better experience. Basically, we've removed the sidebar and stripped away anything that wasn't essential. We've tested it on the iphone and some versions of android and it works pretty well. However,...

I can't seem to find an answer for this in the learning center. I have a large set of articles I've been writing for a while + some time on my hands to dedicate to Hubpages for the next couple of months. Would publishing 10 hubs a day benefit or disadvantage me, both in terms of hub score /...
