Just a hint about what'll be happening next week....we'll be launching a contest. With a prize. I've been spending a lot of time on it, and I promise it will be cool.

I apologize in advance, but the contest will only be limited to U.S. residents. This is not because we value our many, many great Hubbers outside the U.S. any less than those here. It is only because making contests comply with each country's often labyrinthine contest laws is extremely difficult. This is why contests worldwide tend to be limited to residents of the contest sponsor's host country. The legal costs that would allow us to open this up to everyone around the world would make it absolutely prohibitively expensive.

I do want to point out, though, that high-profile contests do benefit all Hubbers, albeit indirectly. We will get blog and press coverage, which will boost the backlink value of HubPages, which will pass on to Hubs and Hubbers. We will get more high-quality Hubs published, each of which adds a bit of value to all Hubs published in terms of search engine visibility. And, if you have visitors to your own blogs/sites from the US, then telling them about the contest...with your URL tracker...might be a great way to get some high-quality, publishing referrals for you. We'll have a link to the contest page next week at the launch.

We will also be increasing the "10 from 10 for 10" bonus for Flagship Hubs to $25 during the contest period (so what you could earn from a FH will increase from $35 to $50). This will apply to any FH that hits the traffic goal during the 30-day contest period, or first published during the contest period.

Have a great weekend, everyone, and I hope you support the contest we launch next week!

    lol, sounds like fun.

I'm going to enjoy watching and seeing the details and how it comes out.

Let me know if you ever run one for most depressing political content.  I might have a shot at that one. :p

      I don't see why not!

Although it would probably break our hearts to have to give the prize to 2nd place (or 3rd, or 4th) because first place didn't qualify due to residency.

But more than the prize, we hope it will be fun for everyone so, by all means, feel free to participate. big_smile

Couldn't you create a separate category with no prize but just glory for non US residents? You know--special spotlight or honorable mention or some such thing--which would NOT be open to US residents??? ...just a thought.

I'm not in the US either.  Sniff.  But maybe I can still go for the flagship hub bonus?

    I like contests. Ha...

I like the Flagship bonus too. :-D

So I take it the contest is 30days, starting when premiered? So, it would be middle of Feb through diddle of March?

Yes, I seem to remember you actually won one day, too!

We'll be featuring a leaderboard of the top contenders on the contest page and related Hubs, so there will be some PageRank passage that way for people who participate, to their profiles.

We're looking for JUDGES for the upcoming contest. We have a handful of openings.

    What's required:
    1) Your account must have a HubScore of 95 or higher.
    2) You must have your own blog/site outside of HubPages where you have complete control over what can be posted there.
    3) You must be free (on a prearranged date), at 1pm PST (9pm GMT) to do the judging, which will probably take you about 15 minutes.

You do not have to be a resident of the U.S. to be a judge.

If you're eligible and interested, please send us an email with the subject "Contest Judge".

    Thanks!
    Jason
