What will cause a hub to not have the "featured" icon on a member's HP account screen?

All but three of my published hubs show the "featured" icon on my HP account. Since two of them are seasonal, I can understand their not being featured (I suppose), but the other one is short fiction. Since my other short fiction is featured--even that without a lot of traffic lately--I can't deduce why this particular hub was singled out for not being featured.  Any ideas?

I'm not exactly sure; but I know that a few of mine which have low scores and deal with the topics of religion and violence in prison aren't getting featured...

X-Con....I'll have to go back and read that short story all the way through to see if it has any word, phrase or topic that might keep it from being featured. (I can't remember, it's been so long since I wrote and published it.)  Thanks for the tip.

Try editing your hub, and adding a few more words, sentences or pictures, and see if that makes it featured. I've got a hub that will also get your idled hubs back into the lime light - http://goody5.hubpages.com/hub/Quick-fi … led-status  I hope this helps you out here.

They can tell you it has to do with quality, but that isn't true at all. One of my best  hubs just had the featured icon taken away. It has to do with low traffic. Low traffic is often caused by just writing about a subject that has too much competition or one that isn't searched often.

I agree with the others. Just make a few small changes and it will get the featured status again. If it had low traffic before though, it will probably get the featured status taken away again. I have my own website and if it happens again, I'll just move it there.

Thanks, Barbara Kay....My fiction normally gets less traffic than my articles, but this one doesn't seem to be any worse for traffic than a few others. I'll make a few changes, though, and see what happens. I'm considering my own website, anyway. Jay

Check the resolution of any images you used too.  I recently had trouble adding one of mine to the slide show because it wasn't listed in my list of featured hubs.  Once I edited the resolution, it appeared and I added it without trouble.  Just one idea.

And a good idea, too.  Thanks, Irc.   Jaye

    Hi Jaye,
I agree with Barbara Kay.  I had a number of my hubs go idle.  I went in, updated some information, re-wrote some sentences, changed some titles, changed or added pictures...that type of stuff...and after a day they went back to "Featured" again.  I also took the opportunity to link it to Facebook again.  I've noticed a modest increase in traffic.

Thanks, Bob...I've made some changes to the non-featured hubs and hope they will soon have the "Featured" icon again.   I could sure use an increase in traffic, as mine took a nose-dive in September. Jaye

I have wondered the same thing. I've had them be featured again after making some improvements. But like other people have said, it's about traffic, not any objective standard of quality.

Thanks for your response, nanderson500.  I got the two hubs to which I referred reinstated as "featured" by following suggestions for tweaking. This morning I have several more "un-featured."  Back to the drawing, er, writing board!

My non featured hub has low traffic. Maybe very low traffic can cause it?

Your hub won't be featured as well if it's too long. Tried writing a really long hub and was not featured. I made it shorter and it went out well. Glad to help. Have a nice day!
