Congrats Sunforged! Great article in the HP Blog. I learned a few things about you I didn't know.
Oh sunforged! Congrats on the engagment! and summer weddings are always nice. And sorry to haer about your loss too. I truly do hope that this pregnancy goes full term and you have a happy healthy baby.
Okay be honest sun...do you want a boy or a girl first?
boy..i have the toddler martial arts, yoga and camping gear already picked out
and yes I know that these are not gender specific activities! but, women are mysterious, I think it will be harder to raise one!
Habee maybe your right about the electrical.I feel that people only want to know small stuff like how to twist two wires together. The information that i have in that field is to highly technical. That they wouldn't understand what i am talking about anyways
"I have looked it over before i hit the submit button"
wow I learned a few things too sunforged. that is sooo cool that you make your own wine. do you sell it as well? and yea I can tell you are going to be a great daddy
Wow! I'm going to have to get hubby to write some electrical hubs!
sunforged is that the revenue for google adsense cpc or is it for adwords. It seems like adwords and those are common keywords that everyone uses.so i will have to competewith millions of website
lol, thats 30 seconds of research..adwords, if I did it all for you, tomorrow I would tell you take a look at my latest hub in an electrical field.
Even in that small list, im sure you could find a term that you could make first page with using the hubpages platform.
It has nothing to do with the amount of competitors, only the quality of the competition..and the term that brings the traffic doesnt have to be exactly that which triggers an ad
Ok write up you a hub about electrical and let me know what your click through rate is and if your getting alot of traffic.I highly doubt you will get tons of traffic off just this hubpages platform alone
There are keywords out there that i have seen that pays 20.00 a click you just need the resources to find them
20, go here and choose some tags that don't have so much competition:
https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
I use that tool alot along with some other keyword tools that are very very good at finding traffic per month.
Thanks in advance
Yeah i can say it is a great place to start.I had built a blog and it was up for like 2 weeks before i seen it in the search engine. Then made a hub of the same content and it was right beside my blog.So yes it is a great place to start but not the only place to stay
I'll check back with you in a year and see how you feel.
Will you please stop repeating a post and not adding anything. It makes it hard to follow a topic and adds nothing to the topic.
Nelle, his remarks are in the middle. He's not scrolling down to add his remarks.
20, when you reply to a comment, you have to scroll to the very bottom before you add your words. The way you're doing it, you end up in the middle of their post and it makes it look like you're not commenting at all and it actually alters what the previous poster appears to have said.
lol...his responses are in the middle of the quote for some reason
thats even happens to me when I am responding sometimes. I hit submit but for some reason it posts it in the other post. It's not just 20 that that has happened to. and nothing to do with scrolling down. I always scroll down but for some reaosn it pops in the other post, making it look like I hadn't responded at all when in fact I had...
My goodness....you guys/gals are SO patient! Kudos!
Getting back to the original thread of this topic. YES - I agree - with the list and the additions. So many people have helped me on my way since I joined a couple of months ago that its been a pleasure to be here. I tried not to ask questions before reading (or at least trying to locate the info first) but THANK YOU - you are all legends....AND not in your own lunchtime! Te he.
My experience is that it's all about finding a good niche, some decent workable adsense keyword phrases, and hoping for a bit of luck.
I've written stellar hubs that went nowhere, and other hubs that went there and back, without me understanding why. It's all about combining quality with quantity and waiting to see what shines.
I have several niches I'm working right now with two of them really working well for me. Both, I discovered by writing a hub in them and receiving a good return ... so I dipped into the bowl again as I knew I had found a place where the chili tasted just right.
Take it from me, 20, though some of us knew about making money off of adsense before we arrived here, not one of us knew exactly how to do it on Hubpages, as it's a bit of a different beast altogether.
I can rank on topics here through hubpages that I can't rank on yet with my own site, and that's because hubpages gives you a really nice pagerank boost.
While you might think the 'ones who know' appear like bullies, consider a clever analogy I just came up with ...
Let's say your best friend is about to place his hand in a meat grinder. Now, not wanting this to happen you might appear a bit over zealous as you grab his hand and pull it away ... but your intentions are pure. This is how the elder hubbers tend to be, as they don't like seeing other hubbers making the same mistakes made by people before them.
As such, they offer great advice ... and yes ... they do appear a bit gruff at times ... but it's always in the spirit of helping other hubbers grow, and in time you will see that I was right about this.
Like it or not ... we're members of a community that thrives upon each others success. When all pump out quality work the community gains respect on Google, making everyone more money. As such, any elder hubber knows that their success lies on their own backs as well as other hubbers.
Of course, that's why they start helping out, but in time (as I have realized) we do it because it makes us feel good when someone turns around months down the road to thank us for being there when they skinned their knees and needed help off the ground.
We've all been there ... and making those first days a bit less painful for new members helps us cope with the struggle we all went through during our first days.
Trust me, 20, whether you're here to make make a profit or to meet new friends who share an interest in writing ... you couldn't have found a better pillow to rest your head on.
These are good people, without exception, and if you allow them to help ... well ... they can get a bit confrontational at times when you don't listen to them, but they will also push you to become successful. I should know, as I like to push struggling artists along as well, as I know a little nudge is all they need to get on the path to success ... and helping someone else succeed creates a success for me that transcends any profit I could ever make here.
Seeeee.....all you guys have stepped up to the plate tonight and once again showed me and the rest of the community why we admire you so much. You consistently show up to help and you consistently provide useful and insightful help. Newbies are not the only ones to benefit from your wisdom. I learn something every dang time.
hubpages does have a great boost in the search engines no doubt.I feel that with a page rank of 1 they can't give me the total traffic that i need but can help.Posting on a page rank 5 or 6 website that is a .gov or .org can top hubpages easly
it is not that hard to do maybe i am just experience enough to get it done
It seems like you all don't know about the back doors to .gov and .org site ha i will keep that secret to myself.
perhaps your right but i will give alittle info so you can give me some info so i will know what you know then i can tell how much edu you have in seo off page
I've been giving you advice since you started posting. But keep your secrets to yourself. After seeing your posts in various threads and the way you interact with the community I'm convinced that if there's something that you know that apparently no one else does then it won't be worth knowing.
Maybe darkside but you know just as well as i know that you can get killer rankings if you get aboard with a few of those site. You call me a newbie and maybe i am but i have the experience of a guru check out my profile i have been around computers since they built the tandy
The last person I'd respect as a 'guru' is the one who claims to be a guru.
Whenever I engage as a newbie in an online community (and even now I'm doing so elsewhere) I take the time to read all the FAQ, Help and as many previous forum threads as I can so I can get a feel for what's expected from the members and also the vibe of the community. I don't disrespect the other members, I heed advice from the experienced users, and I don't offer outdated advice and then make a post four hours later asking if no one cares because they didn't post in my thread.
I wish you the best of luck with your online endeavours.
well, im surprised this hasnt been pointed out but the Hubpages site is a PR6 - of course indivdual hubs dont all enjoy that rank but neither do every page on whatever alternative sites you are referencing
Many of the Hubbers on this thread have Hub profile pages that are PR3 and PR4...its the interlinking structure that makes it so effective( i think)
Enjoy spamming the guestbooks...I believe a true "backdoor" to a .gov site would be NSA jurisdiction
I've seen you guys talk about the PR ratings. Where do you go to find that? Where can I find what the rating system means?
I believe I have the Google toolbar on my browser already. Now what?
yeah you are right it is a page rank 6 so that is why your hub is powerful on the search engine. That shouldn't be your only tactic is hubpages.Getting you site on a gov site is remarkable and it will do just as much or not more then this whole system (hubpages) can do.
@20jdhf05 ok, I concede for the night, Not once has anyone stated that hubpages was there only tactic...you can either start on the ground floor with a fresh site or start in a penthouse using a performing platform
- many of the hubbers mentioned and who who have responded to you have hubs and articles explaining to you some methods of backlink structure ranging from using other publishing sites (squidoo, infobarrels, xomba, shetoldme), article marketing and even subscription based and expensive link services...no one said hubpages was set and forget
Infobarrel
Squidoo
Xomba/SheToldME

Have a real budget, see how a hubber competes in an ultra competitive niche like "luxury real estate!"
@kcc - i prefer seo for firefox, keyword research and competition analysis on the fly would be quite tedious w/o it.
its free:

@shazwellyn
PR refers to PAge rank which is a measurement created by google which roughly dictates a sites respectability in its eyes
it ranges from PR0 - PR9 (google itself and facebook, are the only pr9 sites i can think of off the top of my head)
..interlinking ...when you publish a hub, you automatically get inlinks from your hub profile, the latest feed on the front page, all the tags you placed, on other hubs in the "related" section...all of these links significantly help your hubs ranking in search results..they are all onsite but are effective nonetheless
I found where to add it, but there are about 10. There is a version 2 of my own. I'm assuming that's the button I want, right?
if you don't know what a tandy computer was just a hint you had to program the codes in dos just to play that cheesey game they called ping pong and the code were super long.So ask yourself do you think i can get some backlinks from .gov and .edu. site and if i couldn't do you think i could access the back doors
We should be celebrating our Gurus. This is not a war on egos - the playground mentality of 'I know better than you know'.
I am only pleased that I have the support of these Gurus to direct me. 20gsxr05 should too!
Why cant people just appreciate others? Why do they have to do them down?
20gsxr05 - go away and play with yourself! You dont deserve help.
*middle finger alert*
You don't even know what is going on for you to judge me i am just defending myself from someone who is always giving me a hard time
Dude OMG No one has been trying to give you a hard time or say anything bad.
These people that have given you advice are the Elite members of Hubpages.
Now, just because Darkside doesnt sugar coat things and so forth doesnt mean anything.
My suggestion is you sit back and read the Hubs from some of these people and you will be a better Hubber for it.
I never submitted a hub or posted anything for a month because I took that time to learn.
If you cant see these people started out trying to help you then you need to look again.
Have fun and understand and you could do alright
suforged you are the best at explain things to people that just don't know.I have the firfox add on an it is great.Like you said it is great for on the fly.It is also good for hacking into other website to see what they are doing to rank high as well
20 - i added some the links to my farewell post - really are all worth a glance, or I wouldnt have had them saved in my bookmarks!

hubpages.com has a PR of 6 , which is very good and is the best of the online writing sites..but that ranking is for www.hubpages.com not for www.hubpages.com/yourprofile or/ your hub / or whatever else may be added after the the .com!
I was really happy when i checked my own profile page one day to see it was indexed and ranked at a PR3, now when I link off that page I can spread/pass the page rank juice along to new sites and articles
...i bet that just got confusing
Ill try and dig up some links that explain better...basically, when a higher page rank site makes a recommendation, by having a link on it to elsewhere ...google listens and gives the site that is linked to a little more authority
i wish you best of luck with your hubpages they must be doing so much for you.Hey why don't you fill out an application i am sure they would love a dedicated person like you that is always on his knees full of joy for hubpages.Gurus are good at all fields not in just one
So you are a 'Jack of all trades and a master of none!' I'd rather engage with the master thank you.
Go away and play. Come back when you can be truly useful and an active participant within the hubpages community.
When you can share, novices like me will listen, but don't disrespect those that really help strugglers like me!
To all the Hubpages Gurus, for which this thread was created in honour, I thank you x
@shazwellyn
"oh, I see! So that is why backlinking is so important! Not just about driving traffic, but gives kudos and a wider field. "
well said
when we were in school and a bunch of our fellow students said a book was helpful to beat the next test, we may take notice.
If our TA said, that book is really helpful for the next test, we would take even more notice
If a fellow student who flunked out last year says that book is really useful for the test..we may be skeptical..but we may pay a little attention
If the professor says read this book, you will pass the test, than we better listen
sometimes there is more than one book, differing opinions and limited time...somehow we have to decide which book to read, some of those who make the recommendation have more authority in our eyes ... thats what PR attempts to do ( in my lame 6am analogy)
KCC I thankyou for slipping me into your list. A most welcome sight. Quite a few on your list (and a few that weren't) have helped me, whether because I've read (and noted) what they've written or because they've helped me personally, off-site.
And to anyone that helps others for no personal gain, kudos all round. Being decent is what makes the world go around - not cold hard cash
And 20 - do stop. This is a lovely thread and you're getting your knickers in a knot when there's no need and creating discord. What you're getting is contructive criticism, not a public mauling. Be the best hubber you can be - and take the advice being offered. Stop scrapping with Darkside and Sunforged, they're both good men
Final word - Well done KCC. I'm sure you've helped as many as any on your growing list and at least you had the thought to start this thread. I take my hat off to you. Or at least the scarf I currently have tied around my neck
Hear Hear! These folks are what make hub pages the amazing site that it is! Ask a reasonable question and one of these lovely people can be counted on to help out. I learn new things almost daily here because of this community of helpful hubbers
I'm very grateful you consider me with this group. You definitely belong KCC.
I just wanted to bump this back to the top because of all the great information that passed through here last night. It never ceases to amaze me the level that hubbers will go to helping one another.
In a time when things aren't so great for me and with things that happened overnight last night I stop today to evaluate life as I know it and you are all tops in my book. Thanks for all you do, each and every one of you.
I am so thankful to CindyVine, Sunforged , KCC and others who put my name out there. I believe right or wrong all of us are a team and it feels like family here.
Morning Cindy and AE! Good morning 20! I hope you are all having a great morning so far.
Glad you are doing well this morning 20. I see you are in Atlanta. Man, I know you are wanting to write on getting traffic etc but you have a wealth of topics at your fingertips by living where you do. Just the events in the area alone would be very informative as hubs.
Hope your day continues to go well. I'm off to write up some hubs and gather the rest of my info for them.
KCC wonderful thread topic, we hubbers can feel the hublove. The list is well compiled and I have had the opportunity to get some advice from the hubbers listed here. Kudos to all of you, it is indeed a great support for every hubber who is lost. Cheers to many more successes to all the great hubbers.
Having joined HubPages in October, I just want to say that almost everyone mentioned or having posted in this thread has helped shorten my learning curve about all things hub related immensely! Thank you to all who help, but I want to expressly thank:
Darkside
Mark Knowles
sunforged
relache
Nelle Hoxie
I believe these hubbers, with their hubs and helpful forum posts, are pure gold. There are too many others to mention, of course, and most have been named in this thread, but it is these top five that have made the going much easier for me.
oh I just thought of someone else to add to this list who had helped me too, Luciendasky she is great!
I would like to add prettydarkhorse to this great list, Maita always has such a positive attitude no matter what. Thanks.

When I look at the questions section of hubpages I see pages and pages of silly questions. A lot of the time, when I click on "unanswered" or "latest" I see that the same person has asked ten or so questions in a row. I suspect that in most cases this is because of the fact that...

Ok, so since the Penguin update I have sat here listening to lots of Hubbers complain of loss of traffic. Now we're not talking a little fluctuation in numbers, we are talking 80% gone overnight! For people who use Hubpages as a form of income, this is a serious issue. Up until...

Patty Inglish is helping moderate the group so you know it's legit! Let me know if you can't find the community and I'll help you out. The world of online journalism is changing and, in my opinion, Google+ is a very necessary next step! I'm sure many hubbers have already taken the plunge, but if...
