Habee maybe your right about the electrical.I feel that people only want to know small stuff like how to twist two wires together. The information that i have in that field is to highly technical. That they wouldn't understand what i am talking about anyways

sunforged is that the revenue for google adsense cpc or is it for adwords. It seems like adwords and those are common keywords that everyone uses.so i will have to competewith millions of website

    1. sunforged profile image80
sunforgedposted 15 years agoin reply to this

lol, thats 30 seconds of research..adwords, if I did it all for you, tomorrow I would tell you take a look at my latest hub in an electrical field.

Even in that small list, im sure you could find a term that you could make first page with using the hubpages platform.

It has nothing to do with the amount of competitors, only the quality of the competition..and the term that brings the traffic doesnt have to be exactly that which triggers an ad

Nelle, his remarks are in the middle.  He's not scrolling down to add his remarks.

20, when you reply to a comment, you have to scroll to the very bottom before you add your words.  The way you're doing it, you end up in the middle of their post and it makes it look like you're not commenting at all and it actually alters what the previous poster appears to have said.

My experience is that it's all about finding a good niche, some decent workable adsense keyword phrases, and hoping for a bit of luck.

I've written stellar hubs that went nowhere, and other hubs that went there and back, without me understanding why. It's all about combining quality with quantity and waiting to see what shines.

I have several niches I'm working right now with two of them really working well for me. Both, I discovered by writing a hub in them and receiving a good return ... so I dipped into the bowl again as I knew I had found a place where the chili tasted just right.

Take it from me, 20, though some of us knew about making money off of adsense before we arrived here, not one of us knew exactly how to do it on Hubpages, as it's a bit of a different beast altogether.

I can rank on topics here through hubpages that I can't rank on yet with my own site, and that's because hubpages gives you a really nice pagerank boost.

While you might think the 'ones who know' appear like bullies, consider a clever analogy I just came up with ...

Let's say your best friend is about to place his hand in a meat grinder. Now, not wanting this to happen you might appear a bit over zealous as you grab his hand and pull it away ... but your intentions are pure. This is how the elder hubbers tend to be, as they don't like seeing other hubbers making the same mistakes made by people before them.

As such, they offer great advice ... and yes ... they do appear a bit gruff at times ... but it's always in the spirit of helping other hubbers grow, and in time you will see that I was right about this.

Like it or not ... we're members of a community that thrives upon each others success. When all pump out quality work the community gains respect on Google, making everyone more money. As such, any elder hubber knows that their success lies on their own backs as well as other hubbers.

Of course, that's why they start helping out, but in time (as I have realized) we do it because it makes us feel good when someone turns around months down the road to thank us for being there when they skinned their knees and needed help off the ground.

We've all been there ... and making those first days a bit less painful for new members helps us cope with the struggle we all went through during our first days.

Trust me, 20, whether you're here to make make a profit or to meet new friends who share an interest in writing ... you couldn't have found a better pillow to rest your head on.

These are good people, without exception, and if you allow them to help ... well ... they can get a bit confrontational at times when you don't listen to them, but they will also push you to become successful. I should know, as I like to push struggling artists along as well, as I know a little nudge is all they need to get on the path to success ... and helping someone else succeed creates a success for me that transcends any profit I could ever make here. smile

        1. darkside profile image60
darksideposted 15 years agoin reply to this

The last person I'd respect as a 'guru' is the one who claims to be a guru.

Whenever I engage as a newbie in an online community (and even now I'm doing so elsewhere) I take the time to read all the FAQ, Help and as many previous forum threads as I can so I can get a feel for what's expected from the members and also the vibe of the community. I don't disrespect the other members, I heed advice from the experienced users, and I don't offer outdated advice and then make a post four hours later asking if no one cares because they didn't post in my thread.

I wish you the best of luck with your online endeavours.

well, im surprised this hasnt been pointed out but the Hubpages site is a PR6 - of course indivdual hubs dont all enjoy that rank but neither do every page on whatever alternative sites you are referencing

Many of the Hubbers on this thread have Hub profile pages that are PR3 and PR4...its the interlinking structure that makes it so effective( i think)

Enjoy spamming the guestbooks...I believe a true "backdoor" to a .gov site would be NSA jurisdiction

PR refers to PAge rank which is a measurement created by google which roughly dictates a sites respectability in its eyes

it ranges from PR0 - PR9 (google itself and facebook, are the only pr9 sites i can think of off the top of my head)

..interlinking ...when you publish a hub, you automatically get inlinks from your hub profile, the latest feed on the front page, all the tags you placed, on other hubs in the "related" section...all of these links significantly help your hubs ranking in search results..they are all onsite but are effective nonetheless

it ranges from PR0 - PR9 (google itself and facebook, are the only pr9 sites i can think of off the top of my head)

hubpages.com has a PR of 6 , which is very good and is the best of the online writing sites..but that ranking is for www.hubpages.com not for www.hubpages.com/yourprofile or/ your hub / or whatever else may be added after the the .com!

I was really happy when i checked my own profile page one day to see it was indexed and ranked at a PR3, now when I link off that page I can spread/pass the page rank juice along to new sites and articles

...i bet that just got confusing wink

Ill try and dig up some links that explain better...basically, when a higher page rank site makes a recommendation, by having a link on it to elsewhere ...google listens and gives the site that is linked to a little more authority

"oh, I see!  So that is why backlinking is so important!  Not just about driving traffic, but gives kudos and a wider field. "

    well said

when we were in school and a bunch of our fellow students said a book was helpful to beat the next test, we may take notice.

If our TA said, that book is really helpful for the next test, we would take even more notice

If a fellow student who flunked out last year says that book is really useful for the test..we may be skeptical..but we may pay a little attention

If the professor says read this book, you will pass the test, than we better listen

sometimes there is more than one book, differing opinions and limited time...somehow we have to decide which book to read, some of those who make the recommendation have more authority in our eyes ... thats what PR attempts to do ( in my lame 6am analogy)

KCC I thankyou for slipping me into your list. A most welcome sight. Quite a few on your list (and a few that weren't) have helped me, whether because I've read (and noted) what they've written or because they've helped me personally, off-site.

And to anyone that helps others for no personal gain, kudos all round. Being decent is what makes the world go around - not cold hard cash wink

And 20 - do stop. This is a lovely thread and you're getting your knickers in a knot when there's no need and creating discord. What you're getting is contructive criticism, not a public mauling. Be the best hubber you can be - and take the advice being offered. Stop scrapping with Darkside and Sunforged, they're both good men smile

Glad you are doing well this morning 20. I see you are in Atlanta. Man, I know you are wanting to write on getting traffic etc but you have a wealth of topics at your fingertips by living where you do. Just the events in the area alone would be very informative as hubs.

Hope your day continues to go well. I'm off to write up some hubs and gather the rest of my info for them.

KCC wonderful thread topic, we hubbers can feel the hublove. The list is well compiled and I have had the opportunity to get some advice from the hubbers listed here. Kudos to all of you, it is indeed a great support for every hubber who is lost. Cheers to many more successes to all the great hubbers.

Having joined HubPages in October, I just want to say that almost everyone mentioned or having posted in this thread has helped shorten my learning curve about all things hub related immensely!  Thank you to all who help, but I want to expressly thank:
    Darkside
    Mark Knowles
    sunforged
    relache
    Nelle Hoxie

I believe these hubbers, with their hubs and helpful forum posts, are pure gold.  There are too many others to mention, of course, and most have been named in this thread, but it is these top five that have made the going much easier for me.
