How do you deal with ignorance on Hubpages? Call it out, or let it slide?
First, people who don't properly name sources for photos! I use public domain whenever possible, but at the very least I either name the artist by name or the user name, and link to their official website or the site I found them on (like Deviant Art). When I see people listing Google Images as their source, it's not only ignorant, it's disrespectful and unethical.
And, I have seem some "informational" hubs giving completely wrong information, and I keep myself from commenting. And, someone who often does that just left a VERY ignorant and uneducated comment on a hub. Very annoying...
I find it's better to ignore them. Chances are, if you make an attempt to call it out, you'll just end up in an argument that doesn't end. Its not good for your health. If you focus on keeping your hubs and questions well sourced and researched, then yours will naturally float to the top while the lower quality ones will sink.
So many ideas of what is right and confusion too that you shouldn't put the .com because google doesn't like that and I am not sure still anyone really knows so I see different ones do different things and try to use my own as often as I can and to each his own.
I follow HP guidelines, do the best I can and am not much concerned about those who do it differently. I am confident that HubPages will take care of those who are not following guidelines.
I try very hard to ignore most of it, but some of it I just cannot ignore.
I have read more nonsense on Hubpages in the last year than I have in a lifetime. Much of it, as you note, is published as "informational" when it is nothing more than medieval superstition, bigotry, hate speech, etc.
I am appalled by the prevalence of the following:
Hyper-religiosity
Homophobia
Anti-Americanism
Anti-Science/Pro-Creation Diatribe
Disinformation
Misinformation
Hate Speech...the list goes on.
And the level of utter ignorance and lack of an/or failed education is equally stunning.
I am shocked at the frequency of name-calling, efforts to berate and belittle, and near-constant abusiveness of so many individuals who are compelled to post comments.
Since joining Hubpages last year I have been called a variety of name including (but not limited to): a fascist, a communist, a murdering European, an idiot, un-American, a fool, a joke, a sexual and moral deviant---and that's just the starter list.
From one murdering European to another, just keep the flick-knife out of sight, put your hand on your chest when the fat lady sings and keep your head down when the flak flies.
I've had no problems yet - touch wood - but then I keep away from Salem
Welcome to the "Sexual and Moral Deviant" club! I have been called similar! I think it's just slightly deviant that those people saying that are thinking about OUR sex lives more than WE do!

I feel concerned that the reason google may prefer ehow as opposed to hubpages, is because there is an abundance of poetry and short stories. I am not by any means saying that those who publish the short stories and poetry are not good, but they are not usually searchable or high market. I...

I was under the impression that hubs had to be informational but have learned otherwise during the past few days. I'm actually glad about what I learned tonight and in no way am I denigrating any hub style. "Informational" is not the right word I feel.....but I can't think of...

I see this message when my Hub is rejected: "Heads up! It looks like your Hub is not cleared for publication because it did not pass the Quality Assessment Process. No need to fret; every new Hubber goes through Boot Camp, and all you need to do is improve the Hub so that it meets our quality...

I used to be a hubber and I posted how to's and informational hubs, but I got burnt out because it wasn't my niche. I have written one short story now, do you think creative writing is a good way to go on hubpages?

Just curious...I have to admit--I've gotten into some strong back and forth discussions a few times on here, but have never been called a name. But on Facebook last night, I politely(honest!) defended my son,who was at work, against a teenage girl, who came back on and called me an "Old...
