Lowest Scoring Hub

I have been writing a series of hubs called Poems From the Porch where I ask for suggestions of topics from my readers to write poems about. In every hub I write four or five poems based on those suggestions. I am not up to the ninth in the series and it is proving very popular.

However, I have a quandary. Poems From the Porch 3 https://hubpages.com/literature/Poems-From-the-Porch-3 has a hub score of 61 my lowest scoring hub/article of over 400. The others in the series have scores ranging from 74 to 79 with 78 being the average. When I first noticed Number 3 had a hub score of 60 I edited it slightly and the score rose to 68 for a day or two then dropped back to 61.

For the life of me, I cannot see how it differs greatly from the others in the series or is in any way inferior. I actually have what I call a "micro poem" with a higher score 62 and it has only 40 words. Poems on the Porch 3 has 1118 words.

    It just makes no sense.

I am nort a serious poet, I write nonsense or doggeral mostly, but my humble offerings usually end up a the bottom of my scoring list. I do them for fun and hopefully to amuse other writers.
Hubpages is generous in accepting  all  poetic and creative writing--that's a very nice thing about them. I love that they give a chance to every kind of writer.... BUT (and you notice that is a BIG but) they are a business that needs to focus on views and profit.
I know that you have been here for awhile and have lots of fans. I don't have advice, but I'm sure you are good enough to find a answer.

Thank you, Rochelle. I am not under any illusions that poetry should be among the highest ranking articles here (though I do have poetry hubs with scores in the 80s) it is just the fact that this one ranked so far below the others that made me query it.

I understand. It's always fine to ask an appropriate civil question. Hope you get clarification.

I never pay attention to the hubscores but I did just now. Same here and that doesn't go for poem hubs alone. Half of my hubs that I haven't even updated to today's standards and are not viewed by anyone in weeks have hubscores in the 80s.

Thanks Titia, I usually don’t worry about the hub score either but this discrepancy seemed so glaring I had to query it.

John, first off, I would remove the comment you make in the text about this hub scoring low. It's inappropriate and detracts from the post. Your readers, whether within HP or outside, have no idea what score (nor do they care) the post has received from HP. You're not doing yourself a favor, rather, you're doing the post harm.

Secondly, HP doesn't like bold text. You've explained what Elijah has requested of you, so there's no need to point out how you met his challenge by bolding the pertinent words.. Leave it up to the reader to recognize it.

I suspect that if you fix those couple of things, your score will rise.

Thanks for the wise head Shauna. I got rid of most of the bold text and the paragraph about the low score, though that was written later to try to get HP’s attention lol. The thing is all the other hubs in the series have bold text as well and didn’t suffer the same low score. Let’s see what happens now.

Good luck, my friend. You're the best poet I know and that will never change. Your poetry is smooth, flowing, rhymes, and tells a story. That's hard to do in poetic form. I never have to try to figure out what the hell you're saying or look up words I don't know. Poetry should be simple and relatable. Yours is.

Thank you, Shauna. You are too kind my friend. Haha, I probably don’t know any words you don’t.

I think that's just one of those nonsensical things. Years ago I wrote a series of three hubs of humorous limericks poking fun at my state called "Arkansas Limericks". Two had higher scores than the other. Then I noticed that the lower scoring one became unpublished. I went in and deleted some photos and fixed some heads and it stayed published. They are still all published with scores of 76, 73, and 68, so I guess I fixed whatever was wrong. I still don't know, but the one I fixed is the highest scoring one. Maybe I need to work on the other two. I love your poems from the porch, but I have several that I need to read to catch up. Please forgive me for being so lax, but I'm recovering from a stroke. I'll eventually get to them all.

Thank you MizB, I remember ‘Arkansas Limericks” they were great. Take your time catching up on the reading, you will get there. Just concentrate on your recovery at the moment.

The hub scoring system is unfathomable. My lowest is 65 and is actually in draft status. One of my highest consistently scores 100 with only 2,600 views since publication in 2012. Gets about 1 visit per day. Right now it's 96.

I do notice that the pro edited hubs are generally the highest smile

Thanks theraggededge. Yes, it is unfathomable. My most popular hub traffic wise only has a score of 74 and has never been moved to a niche site (because it is a recipe hub but contains a poem) whereas I have others with scores of 95 that get very little traffic at all. I also noticed that if I remove my lowest scoring hubs, the scores of others drop to take their place so my overall score never rises...weird.

My lowest scoring hubs are all poems and are on HP, not LetterPile. I've chosen not to move them because I feel I have so many other articles that I've written that I'd rather get traffic from those that help others. On the flip side, I'd like to work on moving more of my short stories to LetterPile, but can only do one every two weeks (thanks for the hindrance, HP!). As it is, I have articles on DenGarden, TurboFuture, Pet Helpful, Spinditty, and Dellishibly that are doing well for me.

All of my hubs are in between the range of 52 to 67 score. And, I am not at all concerned. Major of them unfeatured due to traffic and 2 or 3 for quality.

Even if I would like to edit them and try to improve the scores, I really don't find time at all.

Thanks Venkat, I agree it is hard to find the time to edit them all frequently.

I changed the bold text to just italics and deleted the paragraph about the low score as Shauna suggested. This hub now has two red triangles and its score has risen to 66. Still not as high as the others like it but it is some improvement.

Now it has already started to fall again after one day..down to 64. I guess the fact that I edited just gave it a temporary boost.
