Will Articles Benefit from Going NFT?

My husband was reading an article about NFT, which means "Non-Fungible Token." Basically from what I understand, this will give any picture, video, article or digital product a copyright ownership that can be then stored in a digital ledger named "blockchain."

I think this feature can be helpful to prevent plagiarism on Hubpages/Maven since it's an ongoing problem that keeps increasing by the day. Just a thought.

Adrienne - I published an article on NFTs on Discover a few days ago. From what I learned about them during research is that unless you have a very high tolerance for risk my advice is to not invest in them.

There are many elements of NFTs that look to me a lot like the dot.com bubble of the 1990s that burst in 2002. There were lots of tears.

This would be an interesting way of recording and proving copyright, or for content creators to find out who owns the copyright to a certain work. But I'm not understanding how it will stop the bad guys from being bad guys. Most of them know they are violating someone's copyright and don't care.

Thanks, I just read your article and it explained it well in detail. I was just wondering more about using NFT as a way to protect intellectual property.

Here is how I see things. Song writers and musicians have a lot of protection for their work. Indeed, if a YouTube user uses even a small piece of music he has no right to use, he will be flagged right away and possibly get a copyright strike if the video is not removed.

I see articles as songs, only that rather of being composed by notes put together, they are composed by words put together. Articles deserve the same strict copyright protection. So I guess I am hoping for some sort of revolutionary solution that will protect an article as soon as it comes out.

I'm with you and would love to see a better way to protect our work. Unfortunately, it seems almost impossible.

The best idea I have come up with so far is to hire a team of rabid lawyers to relentlessly hunt down every single person who violates my copyrights and serve them with threats of life-altering legal action.

Sadly, I haven't the funds to implement that system just yet.

I recently found out that DMCA.com offers some takedowns no matter what country the infringing websites are located in. If they can't take it down they will refund. It's quite pricey though at $199 per takedown. I am trying to see if they offer a yearly plan for multiple takedowns.

At the bottom of each article we write there is a box to check establishing the author's copyright and the date. This gives you full protection against abuse. But, as Eric points out, plagiarists don't care about the rights of others and NFTs won't change that.
