The ad at the top of articles is worse than the video. It forces readers to wait 10 to 15 seconds before they can start reading (no close button)

Is this on desktop or mobile or both? Is this a new feature ad Eugene? Ten to fifteen seconds is too long a wait for the average punter, surely?

I agree with you. I usually read from my desktop, and it's there waiting for me even when I sign in. It seems like these "experts" would know better. And breaking up our articles with page-width ads is probably driving off readers. The smaller ads weren't so intrusive. I actually clicked on a few as I was reading people's articles. Now I won't look at these huge intrusive ads just as a matter of principle.

On desktop. It doesn't always load, but it follows the reader when they scroll.

The ad/video takes so long to load on my mobile/desktop I scroll before it even loads which keeps it from following me down the screen. I wish I had only 10-15 second ads. I either see ads that are 30 seconds or have no ads! I use to be able to close them, but after seeing this post I realized I cannot do that anymore.

I also saw authors who have their own videos on their articles on Dengarden where the ad/hp video should have been. Is this new and why is it not available to everyone? The two people I saw seem to be fairly new and own their own business.

Absolutely agree. Seems Maven is using our articles simply as a money-making vehicle for ads. Similar format on many websites nowadays. A total turnoff. The ads distract from the other content.

Agreed that the ads are distracting. However, when Maven makes money, we make money.

I wonder is this what's causing articles to fail the Core Web Vital assessment? The time it takes an ad or title video to load? I pre-compressed all images in this article, but it still fails.
