Most mornings I open up HubPages and my feed contains several spam postings for the best SEO service/exam tutor/real estate agent/ in Chennai/Banglalore/Pune. I often report them as spam. Am I wasting my time? Will HP's bots catch them eventually?

Rupert, you're not. The spam landing on your feed and you reporting them to hubpages is all things the internet.                                      I though only Google and Facebook are the only websites having a pandah. Thoughts?

I use to, but now I ignore them and scroll onward. It does cause a frown. The way I see it today is though they will affect the HP main site with the Google gods it doesn't matter since Discover hit the street. They are wasting their effort anyway because they won't be indexed never passing QAP.

I flag them if someone hasn't beaten me to it. Oftentimes, when I click on a link from my inbox notifications, they've already been removed.

Matt, with all due respect, we're all doing our part, but why can't HP conduct an entrance test before people can publish an article here? I believe that by doing so, we will be able to avoid many of the distractions that we see in our feed very regularly.

P.S: If we don't report them, do HP's bots catch them?

Keep reporting them, Rupert. I have lost count of how many of the same I have reported in the last week or so. The more people that flag them the better.

Before approving folks to publish an article on this site, I believe HP should conduct an admission test.

Misbah - That's been suggested many times in the forums but there's no uptake from HubPages. A short English proficiency test would put a stop to a lot of the nonsense.

So far, I haven't seen any on my feed. Hope that doesn't change.

Maria, you probably don't subscribe to various community/forum issues. These spam articles pop up in the least appropriate areas, such as Getting Help From the Community, Community News, etc.

Hi, Rupert. I'm commenting here because I can't find any other way to comment on your article about the British Peerage. I really enjoyed reading it, and wanted you to know. Even though it says it was published only 19 hours ago, it is already closed to comments. That is so annoying. Again, great article.

Thanks Maria. I appreciate your compliments and that you took the time and trouble to submit them through a back door. Comments were supposed to be enabled in June. Oh well.
