Hi! I just saw this one out. Will it affect my earnings or the any hubpages experience if I opt out on this?

    Thank you!

Opting out will not affect your earnings or HubPages experience.

Matt, please explain what this is. I have never seen this pop-up before.

Why do we have to ask Maven not to sell our information? Why would they do that?

It's for California residents only. Please visit this link for more information about CCPA.

So there is no way to stop you from selling my information if I am not in California?

If we're not seeing the option to opt-out, does that mean we're being forced to sell our information? How long has this been happening?

      1. eugbug profile image67
eugbugposted 2 years agoin reply to this

Presumably its already being sold without us opting out because of terms we agreed to. It's just that in California that there's a requirement to ask people to agree to it (Something like GDPR in Europe which concerns storage of user personal details)

I just saw it yesterday, and it quite bother me. It was on the bottom part of the screen. I haven't seen it today though.

Which screen? It looks like you were on your earnings page?

Under the earnings page and under the article statistics page. The font was orange. I cannot remember the exact words but I think it starts with some kind of "Do not sell..."

Maybe this is something new. I could not find it either, and assume the site sold off our info and email long ago. (I have heard facebook and many other sites like that do so.)

Me either. There are directions in the Privacy Policy but no button. The directions didn't make sense to me but maybe I am missing something.

"To exercise the right to opt-out, you (or your authorized representative) may submit a request to us by visiting the applicable the website (among those listed in the introductory paragraph in our Terms Of Use) and clicking on the “Do Not Sell My Info” link directly on that website"

They obviously do not want anyone to figure this out since they say to look elsewhere, and when you do there is no link or website listed in the TOU introductory paragraph.

I enjoyed the use of excessive articles "the applicable the website". I guess they did not have an editor available that day?

Right. That's what confused me too.

I can't believe I have to ask HubPages not to sell my information.

I can believe it. I wonder if we could get our sharecroppers percentage of that?

It is at the very bottom of the earnings page in very small font; Do Not Sell my Info. It is just above the HubPages About, Copyright, Terms of Use, and etc links.

There's nothing on my earnings page about it. Perhaps it only shows if you're based in California? CCPA is the California Consumer Privacy Act. https://www.oag.ca.gov/privacy/ccpa

According to this article there's an undersea internet cable that connects Baler/Aurora in the Philippines and San Fernando in California. Maybe anyone using that connection gets the notices relating to California?

I don't know as I am only one account. I do live in Calif. I opted out yesterday when I saw this post. The link is still at the bottom of the Earnings Page.

Not on my page either. Does it depend on platform? There is a reference to a "do not sell" button in the HTML.

Oh, I see. I am not sure about that but based on the responses on this thread some of us (hubbers) have seen or still seeing it while others don't. it's weird.

Good thought, yet it may be more related to what Beth pointed out that CCPA= California Consumer Protection Act. And, I live in California.

Anyway, it shows up on my desktop with Windows 10 and Firefox as well as my Amazon Fire with Silk Browser.

      1. EricDockett profile image80
EricDockettposted 2 years agoin reply to this

Maybe. But there should still be an easy way for the rest of us to opt out.

The CCPA only applies to Californian residents. i.e. Only Californian residents have been given the right to opt out under this legislation.

Now that it was brought up, not usually, but I think I was using one when I saw that button, Now, it is making sense. It is indeed possible that the button to opt-out is only for California residents in accordance to the CCPA.
