    Dear guys!
    Hope you are doing well!
I have a question, please let me know if all images on Pinterest are royalty-free or how do i know which ones are free to use.

No, they aren't. Use sites like Pixabay, Pexels, and Unsplash. Also read the article in the Learning Center regarding the legal use of images.

HubPages is a commercial site so all images must have a license suitable for commercial use. Don't use an image unless you have established the license or have specific permission from the owner.

It's a minefield... writers have been sued for unlawful use.

Pinterest isn't a free photo site like Unplash or Pixabay. You've to be very careful.

I noticed in the guide it says we can use images in public domains. What does public domain mean?

I think Public domain images are royalty free.

It means that they are in the public domain and are fine for anyone to use.  Like old books and songs out of copyright.

Some Wikipedia images are PD, but, again, you have to check each one by clicking on the image. Or try searching for sites that host PD images.

Your best bet is to look for Creative Commons images on the sites suggested previously.

Have you looked at Unsplash yet? You are pretty much safe with anything there. Same with Pexels and Pixabay. Though, I have heard of people uploading photos they have no right to. I've never had a problem with any of those.

Remember to attribute the source in the image capsules and include a live link.

It is impossible with the A.I. generators out there to fully know what is and is not a copyright.  There are many of these sites that let you create your own images but they are all considered public and have zero licensing to them.  People go to places like Pinterest and grab designs all the time for places like Cafepress since the designs have no protection.  Image searches will sometimes show tons of links to the same Print-on-Demand sites.  It's all a crap shoot now.

You have no way of knowing if any images on Pinterest are free to use. It is best to avoid using any from there unless you can track the original source and find out if free use is allowable.

It's impossible. I have had artwork pinned that lead back to completely unrelated websites.

    Thank you for help!
But i noticed many writers continue to use pinterest images in their articles then how is this possible?

    1. theraggededge profile image87
theraggededgeposted 23 months agoin reply to this

It's always possible, but as a professional, you shouldn't emulate them however tempting it is smile

HubPages does not police images; it's up to the writer to stay within copyright laws.

Images on Pinterest aren't royalty-free. They've been pinned there by people looking to drive traffic to their sites.

@theraggededge has given some sites where you can get images for free but just to add to the list, here are a few more to check:

    - Freestock. org
    - Freeimages. com
    - Freephotos. cc
    - Picspree

Also, be aware that Flickr images are not necessarily usable for our purposes here. You need to check the license.

If I were you, I'd go through every article I'd written so far and make sure I am using images legally.

Get it "EricDockett." I want to know if the pictures on the flickr which can be downloaded for free are royalty free images?

      1. theraggededge profile image87
theraggededgeposted 23 months agoin reply to this

Each image on Flickr has license information. You have to check them individually.

        https://creativecommons.org/licenses/

        For example:

You can even capture your own images or photos.                                                I did that for years before landing on a free photo website. Just make the pictures stuning and stellar.

Better safe capturing your stunning and stella images.                                 But whether free photo sites like Unplash, and Pixabay, have start using AI to generate images that I don't know.                               When that happen,  the first to know among us will inform us.

There are tons of AI images on the free photo sites.

Much thamks. But how does these AI photos affect our articles under hubpages?

        1. theraggededge profile image87
theraggededgeposted 7 months agoin reply to this

Not sure I understand... how could they affect your articles unless you use them?

In any case, I'm not sure if HP bans the use of them. Unlike AI text-generating, it wouldn't make sense to do so.

Some info here in the Learning Centre. The only guidelines seem to be that we need to check whether they can be used commercially and the image generator needs to be attributed.

Good to know. Thanks. I should probably read those guidelines again as things have changed with all the AI stuff.

Pinterest is the place where the copyright of image ownership went to die. There seems to be virtually no policing.

  10. psycheskinner profile image78
    psycheskinnerposted 7 months ago

People may be using images they added to Pinterest themselves, after checking whether they are able to be used commercially

Also, be careful about the term "royalty-free" as it includes work you need to pay a single fee to use (just not volume fees).  What you need is copyright-free or CC-commercial use permitted.
