I'd like to wish all of you who celebrate the season (and are still alive and well here on HP) a Merry Christmas with a link to Bob Seger singing my favorite Christmas song, "The Little Drummer Boy". The emotion he brings forth is so uplifting and the musical arrangement is amazing. Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41cvukwmqhk
What's your favorite Christmas song? Can you share a link to your favorite rendition?
And a Merry Christmas to you too! Lots of favourite songs for the festive season, from daft pop to old carols.
The old carols are timeless and always bring a smile to my face!
Merry Christmas to you too, Shauna, and everyone. I love Bod Seger’s version of The Little Drummer Boy.
Thanks, John. I must have listened to the Seger version ten times before posting this. After hearing it, his rendition is my favorite. Merry Christmas to you and your family, John!
What a pleasure to see this thread, Shauna. Truly a breath of fresh air on the Hub. Thank you. And I loved Seger’s rendition. One of my favorites is the classic Judy Garland, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” from “Meet Me in St. Louis.” My best wishes to everyone for a beautiful and heartwarming Christmas!
Merry Christmas, Shauna!
My favorite is Go Where I Send Thee as sung by Peter, Paul, and Mary; followed by Little Drummer Boy, then Mary Did You Know, then In the Bleak Midwinter.
I also like the Huron Carole, but am sad that some of my ancestors were unjustly "missionaried" and then angrily killed missionaries.
Patty, I love Peter, Paul and Mary! You're obviously a Boomer, as am I. Here's the link to the song you mentioned:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DBl9KuGH_w
Here's a link I found for "In the Bleak Midwinter", sung by Susan Boyle. Thank you for his, Patty. You've brought another song to my attention of which I'm unfamiliar.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNbe9sthLz4
I am so appreciative for all of you who are participating and sharing your favorite Christmas songs. That was my hope and intention for posting this forum. What wonderful communication and discoveries have resulted in this post! Thanks to all of you and Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Happy Kwanza! Love to you all!
How great to have those links - Thanks! Susan Boyle's voice is stunning; and I also like Bob Seger. "Boomer"is correct
Susan Boyle's voice is stunning. I remember when she first appeared on America's Got Talent. She was an ugly duckling back then. I'll never forget the looks on the judges' faces when she broke into song. They were stunned!
I love having been born in the "Boomer" era. 1957 for me. How 'bout you, Patty?
I remember that AGT, what fun! As a Boomer, I was born a few years before you and remember seeing the first episode of Captain Kangaroo; I still love the theme song "Puffin' Willy"about a locomotive engine.
Patty, you have me giggling. I had a major crush on Mr. Green Jeans! I thought he was so handsome. In hindsight I realize he was old at the time - older than Captain Kangaroo!
I think you're right! And they were fun together. My favorites were Mr. Moose's jokes.
Merry Christmas! Whenever I hear that intro with those elegant violins, my heart melts... "The Christmas Song" (Merry Christmas to You) by Nat King Cole: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKhRnZZ0cJI
Wow, Rachelle. This is so beautiful! The visuals are so befitting of Nat King Cole's message. Thank you so much for sharing! Merry Christmas!
Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, God Jul (Swedish), Feliz Navidad (Spanish)
Thanks for posting Shauna!!
About 10 years ago a Dear Friend in Sweden sent me a CD of the 'Kungliga Operans Kör' (The Royal Opera Choir) presenting traditional Swedish Christmas songs. I listen to it every Christmas Eve since receiving it, so a Christmas tradition for me.
One song is Julens Stjärna (Christmas Star). Beautiful! Most Swedes have an Advent Star displayed in their window during this season.
I couldn't find a youtube of the choir doing the song online. Next is a youtube link to a rendition of Julens Stjärna by Sofia Källgren. (4:20 min)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ve7RGeOodLg
What an angelic voice! Thank you for sharing, Tim. Merry Christmas! Since today is Christmas Eve, I know you'll be enjoying the CD you mentioned.
Okay. My favorite because I wrote a play called "Christmas in Killarney," which is still produced at schools across the US. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJ1HGslHVlE
What a timeless classic! Thanks for joining in on the conversation. This has been a lot of fun. I hope it continues!
Merry Christmas, Bill, Bev, Maggie, Toby, and the new kitty!
I am loving Danny Gokey's version of "Mary Did You Know?"

Merry Christmas Everyone!!
Angie, thank you so much for this! I first heard this beautiful song about a decade ago. I juggled between this and "The Little Drummer Boy" but chose the latter because it's been a favorite since I was a little girl. You have added a beautiful, meaningful, spiritual piece to my message.
Thank you so much and Merry Christmas to you and all your loves, both present and passed.
Have to share Pentatonix's rendition!
Their voices are their instruments!!
Still can't get over that!! Such a beautiful song, and amazing talent.

Merry Christmas to you and yours Shauna!!
Beautiful, Abbie. I just wish the posted host would have not posted their comments on the video. If they want to close-caption the words to the song, they should have done so. Unfortunately, they distracted from the beauty of the words by insinuating their opinion over the video. :
I didn't even notice, guess I am so used to tuning out the busyness of ads, promotionals, etc. when attempting to read my fellow Hubbers articles! Too soon?
My absolute favourite Christmas song is The Huron Carol (sometimes Carole). It was probably written by Jean de Brébeuf, a Jesuit missionary to the Huron Indians in Canada in 1642. The English lyrics were written in 1926 by Jesse Edgar Middleton. It's meant to relate the Nativity to Indigenous experiences.
It's sung here by Tom Jackson, a Cree from Saskatchewan.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_cmnxep67k
I don't hold with missionaries messing with traditional faiths and neither did the Indians, although they went much further than I do in their disapproval.. The Iroquois captured Brébeuf, his fellow priests, and converts, tortured them and killed them.
Thank you for the link and the history lesson, Rupert. I've never heard this song before. Absolutely beautiful!
Merry Christmas to all. Enjoy it with your families, with every song you may like, and everything else that Christmas means to you.
Thank you for the beautiful message, Val!
Merry Christmas to you all. I loved the song and added it to my list.
Though I am a Hindu, I like Christmas celebrations.
Venka, I'm so glad you enjoyed the song. Thanks for your input!
Merry Christmas Shauna and old friends on HP. My favorite Christmas music is from The Childhood of Christ by Berlioz, Op 25 The Shepherds' Farewell.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4h7LZ9RmcCo&t=20s
Thank you for this peaceful contribution, Linda. I enjoyed listening to it. I felt like I was in church!
Merry Christmas to all. My favorite is Händel's Messiah Unto us a Child is Born
https://youtu.be/CHK8hJ22SPw?si=MMle0rrVd4sqiMij
Youtube is dangerous for me LOL because I always end up clicking on and listening to the special Got Talent shows. This time I hit the special men's/boy's voices and now it's 05.00AM (my time). Lucky for me I can sleep in as long as I want/need to.
Titia, thank you so much for this amazing contribution! I feel your pain with regard to YouTube. I get lost in it all the time. Before I realize it, hours have gone by when my intention was to watch one video. The suggestions on the right side grab me every time!
Merry Christmas and happy new year to everyone. I love O Holy Night, that carol is Christmas to me, whoever sings it. Enjoy the festive season!! X
I love that song, too, Joanne. It brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it.
Merry Christmas, to you all, Dear Friends.
We had a Christmas celebration, Sunday evening, in our apartments. Children sang and danced to tunes set by elders, both vocal and instrumental.
Venka, that is so awesome! I would have loved to have been there to experience it.
Merry Xmas!
The best Xmas song is by Slade, of course! [url]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WM7M7zSMJcw
If you want something more seasonal and classical, I'm opting for Prokofiev's Troika, which is not strictly Christmas music but about a winter sled ride. (And Greg Lake used it for his Xmas song). [url]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mq3hRVAC1GE

The song that's lodged inside my head this year, though, is Chris Rea's Driving Home for Christmas https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrOAoNPdBb4
Thanks, Paul. I enjoyed these, especially the instrumental. Merry Christmas!
I don't know how I managed the double-post, I only just saw it now! I realized I'd messed up the links but thought I was updating the original, but apparently, I replied!
I think it may be an HP glitch, Paul. Many people appeared to respond twice with identical messages.
Yay, Paul, Slade!
I've got the best Christmas (& birthday) presents ever... my son, his wife, my grandson and granddaughter are coming home to the UK from Australia permanently on the 29th. My granddaughter is 14 mths old and I haven't had a hug yet. I can't wait!
My boy moved to Australia when he was 22 - now he's 42.
They've bought a house 15 minutes away and we've been busy getting it ready for them. So excited to have my three kids together at last.
Merry Christmas!
You couldn't ask for a more perfect Christmas/birthday gift, Bev. I'm excited for you! You must be ecstatic!
Wonderful news. Now you can get into full grandparent mode! I wish you oodles of energy. Have a great festive holiday.
What a great present and blessing - Congratulations!

We are having Christmas at my daughters home this year so I'm all packed up and won't be back for a few days. (Chances are slim that I even get the laptop hooked-up... there are just going to be too many games that I need to play my grand-daughters).I'd like to take this opportunity to wish ALL who...

Are you comfortable saying Merry Christmas or do you say Happy Holidays? Why? Do you know the...right thing to say to the right person? Do you think we have become too Politically Correct?
