I'd like to wish all of you who celebrate the season (and are still alive and well here on HP) a Merry Christmas with a link to Bob Seger singing my favorite Christmas song, "The Little Drummer Boy". The emotion he brings forth is so uplifting and the musical arrangement is amazing. Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41cvukwmqhk

What's your favorite Christmas song? Can you share a link to your favorite rendition?

Thanks, John. I must have listened to the Seger version ten times before posting this. After hearing it, his rendition is my favorite. Merry Christmas to you and your family, John!

What a pleasure to see this thread, Shauna.  Truly a breath of fresh air on the Hub. Thank you.  And I loved Seger’s rendition.  One of my favorites is the classic Judy Garland, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” from “Meet Me in St. Louis.” My best wishes to everyone for a beautiful and heartwarming Christmas!

      Merry Christmas, Shauna!

My favorite is Go Where I Send Thee as sung by Peter, Paul, and Mary; followed by Little Drummer Boy, then Mary Did You Know, then In the Bleak Midwinter.

I also like the Huron Carole, but am sad that some of my ancestors were unjustly "missionaried" and then angrily killed missionaries.

Patty, I love Peter, Paul and Mary! You're obviously a Boomer, as am I. Here's the link to the song you mentioned:

Here's a link I found for "In the Bleak Midwinter", sung by Susan Boyle. Thank you for his, Patty. You've brought another song to my attention of which I'm unfamiliar.

Susan Boyle's voice is stunning. I remember when she first appeared on America's Got Talent. She was an ugly duckling back then. I'll never forget the looks on the judges' faces when she broke into song. They were stunned!

I love having been born in the "Boomer" era. 1957 for me. How 'bout you, Patty?

I remember that AGT, what fun! As a Boomer, I was born a few years before you and remember seeing the first episode of Captain Kangaroo; I still love the theme song "Puffin' Willy"about a locomotive engine.

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, God Jul (Swedish), Feliz Navidad (Spanish)

      Thanks for posting Shauna!!

About 10 years ago a Dear Friend in Sweden sent me a CD of the 'Kungliga Operans Kör' (The Royal Opera Choir) presenting traditional Swedish Christmas songs. I listen to it every Christmas Eve since receiving it, so a Christmas tradition for me.

One song is Julens Stjärna (Christmas Star). Beautiful! Most Swedes have an Advent Star displayed in their window during this season.

I couldn't find a youtube of the choir doing the song online. Next is a youtube link to a rendition of Julens Stjärna by Sofia Källgren. (4:20 min)

Angie, thank you so much for this! I first heard this beautiful song about a decade ago. I juggled between this and "The Little Drummer Boy" but chose the latter because it's been a favorite since I was a little girl. You have added a beautiful, meaningful, spiritual piece to my message.

Thank you so much and Merry Christmas to you and all your loves, both present and passed.

Beautiful, Abbie. I just wish the posted host  would have not posted their comments on the video. If they want to close-caption the words to the song, they should have done so. Unfortunately, they distracted from the beauty of the words by insinuating their opinion over the video. sad:

My absolute favourite Christmas song is The Huron Carol (sometimes Carole). It was probably written by Jean de Brébeuf, a Jesuit missionary to the Huron Indians in Canada in 1642. The English lyrics were written in 1926 by Jesse Edgar Middleton. It's meant to relate the Nativity to Indigenous experiences.

It's sung here by Tom Jackson, a Cree from Saskatchewan.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_cmnxep67k

I don't hold with missionaries messing with traditional faiths and neither did the Indians, although they went much further than I do in their disapproval.. The Iroquois captured Brébeuf, his fellow priests, and converts, tortured them and killed them.

    Merry Xmas!

The best Xmas song is by Slade, of course! [url]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WM7M7zSMJcw

If you want something more seasonal and classical, I'm opting for Prokofiev's Troika, which is not strictly Christmas music but about a winter sled ride. (And Greg Lake used it for his Xmas song). [url]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mq3hRVAC1GE

I've got the best Christmas (& birthday) presents ever... my son, his wife, my grandson and granddaughter are coming home to the UK from Australia permanently on the 29th. My granddaughter is 14 mths old and I haven't had a hug yet. I can't wait!

My boy moved to Australia when he was 22 - now he's 42.

They've bought a house 15 minutes away and we've been busy getting it ready for them. So excited to have my three kids together at last.
