A sorrowful limerick

The closest I get to poetry is the noble limerick. Here is one from my fevered brain. I'm sure fellow versifiers can do better - much better.

    A Yankee website called HubPages
    Published stories written by sages
It was bought out by TAG
    That gave not a shag
And, gobbled up all of our wages

Here we all sit in a blind-sided fit.
Came to share our wordsmithing craft.
and the TAG honchos laughed and laughed and laughed
because they knew the writers who line their pockets would ultimately get the shaft
and a big pile of TAG's collective shit.

Limericks are supposed to be funny, But this made me sad...because it's all too real.

Alobeda, I noticed you're articles are still on PatientLounge.com. Is that network site still functioning with HP or TAG?

Yes Kenna. The Patient Lounge network site is still functioning. Haven’t got the move-to-Discover notice yet. I guess it’s just a matter of time.

Enjoyed the limericks, Rupert and Shauna. As pointed out by Dean, both portray the dark side of HubPages.

    Great poem!

However, as much as I dislike the way we’ve been treated by TAG, it’s pretty obvious to me that we’ve all been screwed by changes at Google and the advent of AI.

The original model won’t work anymore.

If someone wants to prove me wrong, put your money where your mouth is and set up something like the old HP that works.

I suspect that you’ll encounter the same issues but I’d love to be proven wrong!

HP was the final one of its ilk and outlasted all the others (Squidoo etc.) RIP

Paul says Google did us all in
By calling HP a big sin
    New algos killed views
    Gave writers the blues
And tossed HP into the bin

    With half-hearted apologies to TAG

TAG should be doing the apologising. From the awful article formatting to the lack of transparency... and now the decimating of earnings even though traffic stayed the same.

Today I will finish deleting my hubs and my account will remain open until I get my final payout next month.

Sorry you're leaving but if I were motivated, I might do the same. I guess I am too mentally fatigued to start over anywhere right now. Best of success to you!

Bev, are you moving your hubs to another format?

        1. theraggededge profile image82
theraggededgeposted 2 weeks agoin reply to this

Not yet. I have a site but it's a vanity project really. I would need to pay to promote it. I'd need to revamp the articles and re-do a lot of the images. I'll give it some thought.

Anyway, just four hubs left, collecting the last dregs of month-end traffic.

Bev, one left to go, it's happening.

I've owned a site for over 10 years. I sent it to pasture about six months ago. I might take it out of retirement and move all my HP film industry articles there. See how that goes and decide from there.

theraggededgeposted 2 weeks agoin reply to this

Keeping one as a placeholder. It's not the best but not the worst so ideal for seeing how things go.

It's a bit sad after 15 years, over 12 million views, thousands of dollars earned (for HP as well as me), not to mention the interaction with newbies, for it to fizzle out like this without one word from a staff member.

Yeah, I would call it suppressive and oppressive. It's been 18 years for me. I still think that in the years to come, I will receive an email or a small white postcard in the mail informing me of a class-action lawsuit. I will not be surprised.
