Ever since our stats got stuck here, despite still being paid for past articles, I have been reluctant to write more articles for the site, and am now exploring other places to write that pay well. Any suggestions?
If you find one, let me know. Unfortunately, I don't know of any platform that 'pays well'.
If you have a unique niche that could attract many followers, then maybe Substack?
I no longer write articles for HP due to their lack of communication and honesty. I know of no other platform that offers a decent revenue exchange. The Internet is dynamic and constantly changing. The best route to go these days is short videos.
I tried SubStack, but it didn't work for me. I've just created my own website and am transferring my hubs to that. I'm going to try to monetize the site but I've basically given up on earning anything for my articles.
Are you using Wordpress or building a website from scratch?
I think from scratch. My hosting service (HostGator) offers free Wordpress themes and free Wordpress site builder. It took me a few weeks to figure it out and the landing page is still pretty crude, but the articles look pretty good.
Don't you have to take out a subscription with Wordpress to use either your own ads/Google Adsense or their advertising programme? Or are you just using Wordpress themes with no connection to the Wordpress site? I still haven’t figured all that out yet. I tried to import my HuPages articles, but I found the whole site very confusing to navigate. Also the free version of Wordpress offers very basic templates.
WordPress is not hosting my site, so I can't use their ad program. I'm trying to get monetized with Google Adsense and then eventually, I'll add Amazon links. It's a lot right now transferring 332 articles.
I agree that the free themes are very basic, but I just paid a web designer to redesign my website for my business, so I need to do this one for free. No paid themes and no paid website builders. Maybe in the future.
I use HostGator, and they have good support as long as you get the right person. But, there is always someone there. My site is getting larger, so I will have to upgrade the service and pay more, which I am debating right now.
I just upgraded because I added the new site which will be significantly larger than my existing business website.
I'm happy with Hostgator. They went through a period when they weren't great, but they seem to have gotten back on track.
Good for you! Expansion is always good. I am just debating whether I want to continue with having a website.
I looked at WIX and I may try that but right now I feel unmotivated.
Yeah, it's tough, Patty. I received an email from a disgruntled HP writer. I don't know how to respond to him. It's because HP will not communicate with us. Nor will they be on the up and up. Even if they said, yeah, it's futile. I'd be happy. That is sad, but at least it's some truthful communication.
I have a Wordpress. I really like wordpress. But you might end up paying more than you make.
There's also substack, which works for some people, but its a very different environment. Your growth is as much due to social media skills there as good articles. Good writing doesn't hurt, but nobody there sees it unless you've got enough social media savvy to get on anyone's radar and have them actually look. Until then, you're shouting into the void. They don't promote or filter.
As far as just submitting and the quality being reviewed and that being posted somewhere where someone might actually read it, I don't think there's a place like that, not that pays. All ears if anyone knows different.
Some years back, I built half a dozen websites with WordPress, used HostGator, and Google ads, plus Amazon product links in some cases. It's not that hard but it is time-consuming.
I'm not going through that again. I decided it just wasn't worth the hassle after about five years of trying, and that was in a much more favorable time when there was far less competition and no AI.
I've seriously considered building one or two very targeted sites that rely on social media traffic and Amazon links to earn, but even that seems like it might be a relatively large amount of effort for the return.
I think it was maybe a good idea ten or fifteen years ago but things are way more challenging now and it's not clear there's a future.
We're seeing another technological revolution happening and it's unclear what the landscape will look like in another year or two.
I suspect that very soon it will get very easy to set up and run your own website because AI will help and do most of it for you.
The problem is that website traffic is set to reduce further, as AI develops, and the ease of set up/running a site will likely only make the competition grow. In England, they call that a “double whammy.”
Trying that out now with ChatGPT.
This was a conversation to see what it could do. My knowledge of HTML is fairly basic, so it would take ages to build anything decent. So I would probably use one of the visual webpage builders. I don't really want to have to subscribe to Wordporess, Wix, Hostinger, Squarespace or any of the other platforms where a subscription has to be paid for content managing the website aswell as hosting. ChatGPT got as far as creating a dynamic website which would allow me to add articles without doing any coding. I got as far as asking it could it put the code on a free server.

That's an interesting experiment. It looks pretty involved and complicated, though.
I saw an interview with Bill Gates where he said AI is already getting good with basic coding but still struggles with the more complex. There's an expectation that AI will take over all coding at some point.
It's another excuse for me to be lazy! Hehe! We're probably not that far off from being able to create websites by just using prompts in a matter of minutes.
I do suspect websites are likely to quickly decline in popularity generally, though, as people use AI for more things.
I was using ChatGPT yesterday to try and solve a bug in code (CSS for HTML, changing the appearance of a button). It tried all sorts of troubleshooting approaches, and it obviously "knew" a lot, but it eventually failed. I managed to get it to solve the problem eventually, but it required the questions to be clearly composed.
Just wondering how do we move our articles. Not understanding, sorry ugh, not tech savvy just like to share my heart on Hub, miss the old days.
Save them to your computer and/or cloud service, delete them from HP (although you don't have to delete them) and republish elsewhere.
I can't tell you where - some use Medium, but it's not great either right now, others set up their own site on places like Wix, Squarespace, etc. Some use a platform like SubStack. And some are tech-savvy and create their own site.
I have my own built on the app, Notion. It costs me £12 pm. It doesn't get much traffic so I might give up on it.
Thanks so much for the response - take care and good luck.
There are many threads of people talking about this topic in the forums. The site's been on its way out for a number of years now.

You also cannot delete any of those articles unless you request for Haley to move them to Discover. Her email is listed at the bottom of her initial post in the provided link.

As we are well aware that hubpages has enacted a niche site discover.hubpages where many of our articles have been moved. It is a good move as it is told that it is done to distinguish between the articles which can attract better traffic ultimately benefiting the author. We are also aware that...

I've now figured out the difference. Wordpress.com is for just writing blogs & from what I've figured out you can't use adsense or Amazon, etc. If I'm wrong, please correct me, and I need clear cut directions for adding their codes, I am not finding anyplace to add the codes. ...

Hi fellow Hubbers! I've been hubbing here at HubPages since year 2010 and I just can't believe that I haven't earn anything from my published articles since then, not a single cent! There's obviously something wrong. Any ideas? Please help! Thanks.
