Well, it's been a Roller Coaster ride over the years (over 18 years for me!) but Hub Pages have now confirmed the end is nigh. I've just read the e-mail with intense sadness but certainly no level of surprise. I would like to thank the Hub Pages team members over the years and the wonderful friends I have made via this site for all their support and friendship and wish everyone the best going forward. As someone once said, all good things come to an end...

Gordon, I share your sentiments and offer the same well wishes to my fellow Hubbers. I joined HP in October 2011. It was fun and a great platform to set my muse free. I made many friends along the way. All was good until HP put themselves (and us) up for sale. Everything went to shit after that. I'm just thankful that we'll be paid what's accrued in our accounts. No more waiting for the minimum threshold that became harder to meet once the many corporate buyouts came into play.

Good luck to all my fellow Hubbers. It's been fun and a pleasure getting to know you.

      Peace,
      Bravewarrior

      Hi Gordon and all,

I’m sad to see the platform is going away. I’ve been here for around 15 years and have made several good friends.

The news is not surprising if I’m being real about it. I won’t get negative here though because what’s done is done. I’ll grab the content and close the hubs before the deadline.

I hope someone considers creating a Facebook group or something. With that said, I am extremely grateful to have been part of this community.

Eighteen years, too. I am happy TAG has finally updated us. Time to move on, keep flourishing and prospering, everyone!

I wonder will the domain be maintained indefinitely? It would be easier to copy and paste from it when moving content to a new site, rather than relying on backups stored in folders, locally or in the cloud. Some sites such as Wordpress allow importing from a website, which is easier than tediously copying and pasting blocks of text and images by hand. Not sure how this works when something is stored in a backup folder locally.

Edit: It doesn't work for Medium, even if an article is stored as HTML and loaded from storage into a browser (somewhat obviously because the URL in the browser's address bar is the location on e.g. a hard drive where the content is stored). Articles need to be hosted somewhere temporarily. Maybe an FTP server could be used?

Based on past acquisitions, I would say Discover will be maintained for the life of TAG.

This sentence also implies to me at least, that they do not plan to shut it down completely. Rather shut us out. Like they did with the niche sites. "You may leave your content up on hubpages.com for users to continue to read."

Eugene, can you explain how to export/import into WordPress?  Thanks in Advance

I find Wordpress very confusing to navigate, so I'm not terrible sure. For Blogger, you used to be able to export your blog as an XML file and then you could use Tools → Import → Blogger and choose the saved XML file.  However,  Blogger no longer appears to be a platform that can be chosen. The problem with our articles on the HubPages Discover site is that they're not grouped nicely together into our own subdomains so they could all be exported as a single chunk, so that possibly means tediously copying and pasting them. According to ChatGPT, there's a plugin called HTML Import 2 that can import HTML pages. I'm going to ask it also is there a way of doing some sort of batch processing that would ease the transfer process. I've been using ChatGPT for all sorts of things recently. This week, I used it  to write code for my blog to display a contents list of articles. Try querying it with "How do I import my site to Wordpress?"

It certainly has been a roller coaster of a ride, but I think most of us saw this coming a long time ago. My articles on PetHelpful at one time made $60-$70 per day, and now that they are on Discover, they make pennies.

But a year ago, when I saw this coming, I turned things around to position myself for the future. I collaborated with a few pet experts I’ve met on here and we developed yourpetsathome.com, and we have been slowly moving our content over there and it is starting to be very well received. If anyone reading this is worried about what to do with their pet articles you’d be welcome to move your content to Your Pets at Home.

Sure, AI is now the now foundation for internet content, but it will never replace that human touch, which is what we strive for on our new content website.

Also, a year ago, I dove deeper into other income-generating opportunities and have made over $20k this year training AI models (flexi/part-time). I love it! If anyone is interested in doing that too, I can refer you to the platform (which I won’t mention here because of forum rules) - just contact me through my profile page if you want more info. They are especially looking for people with a background in finance (which pays very highly).

I wish all the talented writers on HP the very best for the future, no matter what the future holds!

I created my own website also before the announcement and have been moving my content there.

This is still going to be a difficult goodbye.  I've been writing on HubPages since 2008.

I started in 2012, so I missed the biggest earnings here. Still when we could include reasonable amazon ads I made 800-900 a month with 50 articles.  Those days are missed.
