   Am I correct in assuming that any page rank on the "my account" page is for hubpages as a whole, not for my hubs in total?  The page rank on "my profile" is for my hubs, right?
   
   PS- I, too, am learning so much  I feel as though my head is exploding.

      Yes, it "my account" page rank (5) is for Hubpages as a whole.
      
      If you are interested in PR, check out the PR of your profile page.

      no is not your PR, it is the rank of the last link (a href) that does not have the nofollow attribute and that's pointing towards your hub page

   Then save your head and seriously don't worry about your HP 'page rank'... just maintain quality and your writing score will remain high.

   The PageRank that is shown on the "my account" page is for that page alone. PageRank is assigned to individual web pages rather than websites according to the backlinks that point to them. Although the "my account" page might show PagRank the page itself won’t be indexed or pass any PageRank to any of your hubs.
   
   Not that it matters, PageRank won't help increase earnings or rankings.

   That's what I thought. One of my hubs has a PR of 3. Should I be taking notice of that, and trying to recreate it?
   
   I understand that page rank is only one of many factors. I need lots of feedback and attention. I am using page rank as well as hubscore, earnings, and traffic to get my writing where I want it to be. Otherwise, I would be bothering everyone 24 hours a day asking for advice and comments.
   
   I enjoy writing so much I am willing to write about almost anything. I do, however, want to aim for making as much money as possible in the long run. First, I want to get to $1,000 a month, then $5,000. The first goal is  so I can pay off my student loans. The second goal is so that I can support my family and invest in restoring my wetlands.  I have a timeline of at least seven years for goal one. If goal two happens in that time frame, so much the better.  In seven years, I should be able to write online full time, and pursue goal two. [This, of course, is all contingent on my maintaining my interest in this venture... I sometimes get bored with my hobbies. So I should probably say that goal one is to keep writing and learning about writing online.]
   
   With all that in mind, I am working to waste as little time as possible. I COULD be  perfectly happy writing about the Toledo War for months. I don't want to get distracted, though. Hence, my focus on page rank, hubscore, traffic, and earnings. I am looking for my niche- not just a topic niche, a niche that can work for me for a long time.
   
   Is this more than you wanted to know? Sorry... As you can see, I am still integrating ideas and learning. Putting it into words helps me do that.

   Jule, you seem to be on the right track for making money online. PR 3 for a hub is great. I normally take notice of my hubs that attract more organic/converting traffic than others. As you have already mentioned that you know the page rank is not the only factor. And for me traffic is what matters the most thus the high traffic hubs to be reproduced.

      Thanks. So if my profile gets a PR, that is for my profile as a whole?  Seems like I would have to have a pretty good bank of articles and lots of traffic for just "me" from google to get a PR for  my profile.
      
      Each hub will have its own separate PR,  I get that part because I can see how some of my hubs are at different levels.

         The PR you see in your profile is the eact PR for the exact URL in the URL box, take note that URL's do differ.
         
         For instance make sure you are looking at hubpages.com/profile/Jule-Romans, not hubpages.com/my/profile

      search on google for PR Checker and use your hub URL, or download Google Toolbar.

   What does PR really mean? Why is it significant? My best earning and most visited hub has a low PR, and one of my less visited hubs that earns less money has a higher PR. I'm confused!

      It is a measure backlinks pointing to a particular page the google uses. As good as any other measure. Totally blown out of proportion by people that have no idea what they talking about. Trust your experience, this is all what matters

         Yep, Page Rank is a visual numerical indication of the value of the backlinks pointing towards to your website.
         
         While page rank is not vitally important  I do think it retains value.
         
         I find it funny when I run across websites where the person doing teh writing talks about the importance of backlinks, but says that pagerank is unimportant, since tehy are one and the same thing.
         
         Page rank is part of the actual numerical formula used by Google in ranking your website.

            Well, I am not doing the writing task, but I am telling you that in my experience and in experience of a few more people like Dan Thies or Leslie Rhode pagerank is unimportant.
            
            Just to give you an example - the page that makes me several thousand dollars monthly on organic Google traffic has a pagerank of 0.

       download the google toolbar, or tool for firefox, go to your hub page and it will be shown as a little green line (or not if it's zero) on your toolbar..
       
       Page rank is important for getting high in the rankings of the search engines, if some one searches for the relevant keywords on your hub, but someone else has the same or similar keywords and a higher page rank they will be higher in the search..

    As said above, pagerank is for a PAGE. So if your profile has a pagerank of 5, that is for your profile. period.
    But more important, pagerank is just not that important.
    Google has a page rank of 10, but if you search for "purple turtle foot odor", you will see that google doesn't show up for that search in the rankings, even though it has the highest pagerank in the world.
    What does show up for "purple turtle foot odor"? My hub is number one, even thought it has a pagerank of ZERO!
    Don't obsess over pagerank.

       Thats a pretty useless keyword though!
       
       Finding a good niche with low compettion lets you get away with a lot of stuff.
       
       However if you want to rank highly against competing websites, then backlinks are a key element.  And Page Rank is a numerical indication of the value of your backlinks.

    There once was a time when that appeared true. For the last 5 years I have NEVER seen a positive or negative correlation between backlinks and PR. And I have NEVER seen a correlation betwen PR and earning power. Most stuff that's put out there by "experts" as important just isn't.

    Watch traffic levels, traffic trends, and money in the bank. Everything else is basic BS.

    I'm so glad I stumbled across this discussion!  For several days I've been trying - maybe a bit weakly - to figure out the whole PageRank business, but without success before now.
    
    Thank goodness I read through the whole forum before using prcheck.net (very, very easy and user-friendly!).  I figured my Hubs with the most traffic and probably the least competition would have a decent or acceptable PR, right?  Seems reasonable.  But my best ones were "1" or "0" - and on one of them the "0" didn't even show up!! 
    
    So I feel reassured to know that it's actually meaningless.  Now that my obsession is over, I'll try to get back to work. LOL

    It's not the PR of YOUR page that you should worry about. It's the PR of the pages pointing to your page.
    
    So if you're just writing hubs and not making any effort to build back links to your hubs, you really shouldn't worry about PR.
    
    Worry about choosing the right topics. Learn about keyword research.
