I love lists.  LOOOOOVE THEM!  I will do anything to see even more of them around hubpages including giving away a few of my own ideas since it's pretty much all I do all day.

    1)  LOVE YOUR TOPIC - If you are only listing 5 Hot Girls or 10 oatmeal recipe tricks the rules are the same.  You should have a very good idea of the parameters of your subject first.
FOR NO REASON WHATSOVER I will illustrate the point using soft drinks.

If you're listing the 5 Best you must decide the value of each first.  List 'em.  Then think outside the box.  The 5 most people will go to right away are COKE/PEPSI, DIET, SPRITE/7-UP, GINGER ALE, ROOT BEER, MOUNTAIN DEW DR. PEPPER etc.  It sounds like a lazy waitress doesn't it?

If you want to tickle people in a place they like you have to be creative.  Add Dr. Brown's Black Cherry or break your own rule and write about Yoo Hoo! or write about how your Grandma had stacks of C&C cola in every flavor out in the garage or whatever.  People aren't really expecting you to draw a definitive line in the sand here anyway.

Certain questions should pop up right away with this list.  What is my objective here?   To entertain my readers?  If so, start thinking baseball.

    2) Think Like a Baseball Manager.

When he sets up a lineup card at the beginning of the game he is saying, this is a contest and these are the players I'm gonna use to attack the pitcher.  YOUR LIST must have that same intention.

5-4-3-2-1 or 1-2-3-4-5?   This is the eternal question.... It depends.

If I was listing the TOP 5 songs on BORN IN THE U.S.A. by Bruce Springsteen  I'd say..

    5. I'm On Fire - "hey little girl is yer daddy home?"

BAM!  right away I've bypassed the songs they were expecting to see with a lesser known but ultimately more EVERGREEN song.  they'll go 'oh yeah good song'.

    4. Glory Days - Because it sucks!

Okay, now I've got us shifting into a more agressive style.  People love it, I think it's total crap.  It's my hub, why should I pretend to like it?  So you list it even though you are not in favor of it just to rattle cages.  I love it when someone gives me a lecture about how great a stupid song is.  LOVE IT!

    3. Born in the U.S.A.  - Talk about how misinterpreted it is.  How politicians tried to use it b4 Bruce told them where to go.

    2. Cover Me - Again, everyone is waiting for DANCING IN THE DARK and me to talk about Courtney Cox being in the video...but who cares about her?  If everyone already knows something, I just ignore it.  Besides "Well I'm lookin for lover who will come on in and cover me" is pretty sexy.  It's a rollicky jam too.

    1.  My Hometown - Huh?

Then you tell them the reason is because (prior to CDs and mp3s) ONLY on the b-side of the 45 for MY HOMETOWN could you get a copy of Bruce doing "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" (LIVE) which IF YOU ARE A DJ is pretty freakin important information.  Try doing a holiday party without someone asking for it.

THIS IS GETTING LONG SO I'LL ADD MORE TIPS AS WE GO ALONG.
    Hope it helps...

Hi, I think you might have come to my first "list" hub...scary movies.  You say you're brutally honest with your reviews...YES! would like to see a critique!  Hadn't read your hub when I wrote this hub, so of course it's not DJFunktual-perfect. Am getting lots of responses/comments though, which has been fun. Stop on by...

Hi, it's desert blondie.  I know you've come by my scary movie hub.  How can I check out your "list" hubs?  The profile pages seem to give hot, best, latest, but how do I scroll through to see all your titles to find your "list" hubs?  You mention "not very sexy" so intrigued to see what your topics were.

THIS IS SOMETHING I WRITE TO HUBPAGES about regularly but get ignored.  Gaining access to the hubbers and their catalogues.

Some of the VETERANS around here have 300 or so hubs.  How am I supposed to navigate through their work?  HUBTIVITY?

EACH HUBBER should have a TABLE OF CONTENTS that resembles the GROUP EDIT page where you can in an outline WHICH TOPICS the person covers, etc.

I will Make a NEW Hub Central Station so you can access them more easily since that seems to be our only option regarding this.

Assuming DJ Functual has been tagging his Hubs accurately, you should be able to go to his profile, look at his tag cloud, find "list" and click on it, and get every Hub he as ever written that was a list.
