Happy Thanksgiving to my American cousins. Hope y'all have a nice day tomorrow.
In the spirit of the season, I thought I would run a fun competition. Some time ago, I posted my Turkey recipe:
http://hubpages.com/hub/Best-Roast-Turkey
Recently, Paul Deeds wrote an article at tech crunch suggesting hubpage traffic peaks at 3 years.
http://techcrunch.com/2010/10/23/hubpages/
I think this may be wrong for this hub and here is my traffic graph from publication to now:
You can see the full size image here:
http://markpknowles.com/wp-content/uploads/turkey.JPG
The traffic goes like this (maximum page views in a day):
2007 (year of publication)
Day before thanksgiving - 55 views
Day before Christmas - 138 views
2008
Day before thanksgiving - 122 views
Day before Christmas - 157 views
2009
Day before thanksgiving - 269 views
Day before Christmas - 881 views
2010
Yesterday - 304 views
As you can see - I already exceeded the max thanksgiving views the day before the day before thanksgiving. If that makes any sense.
So - here is the competition. Please try and guess the amount of page views it will get the day before thanksgiving (today) and the day before Christmas. Post your guesses here in this thread.
Whoever gets closest on each day (two prizes) gets the prize which is a hubpages related favor from me. It can be anything you like (within reason - I am not giving you my account lol), but I will help you out in some way for free.
Have fun. I will post the stats the day after the day before thanksgiving and the day after the day before Christmas, then we can see who was closest. If 2 people guess teh same - we will go with whoever posted first.
Nice idea Mark Ok here are my guesses.
Day before Thanksgiving - 570
Day before Christmas - 1800
2010
day before:
thanksgiving - 611 views
christmas - 1204 views
A bit of good clean fun, I'm up for it.
Before Thanksgiving - 631 views
Before Christmas - 1111
Before Thanksgiving - 515 views
Before Christmas - 1515 views
Before Thanksgiving - 575 views
Before Christmas - 1224
In that case - good luck, but it is not looking good for the first one.
Before Thanksgiving - 749
Before Christmas - 3240
Good luck hope you reach it
Mark, welcome back (to the forums),
Before Thanksgiving - 392
Before Christmas - 3336
Thanks for the well wishing Mark. I will opt out of the competition as I have no clue as to where they will be.
I have no clue either. It is a pleasant surprise every year - hardly anyone looks at them the rest of the time.
Day before thanksgiving = 817
Day before Christmas = 2458
Off to think about what favour I want..
If you think of any ideas, let us know Gracey
Hiya Mark, how goes the battle?
I love guessing games. Here are mine.
Day before Thanksgiving: 446
Day before Christmas: 1176
Day Before Thanksgiving: 593
Day Before Christmas: 1897
day before Thanksgiving~ 605
day before Christmas~ 1048
gobble gobble
I will ask your favor even if I don't win, i have many questions
Still - you cannot win if you do not take a shot.
before Thanksgiving 550
before Christmas 1300
Happy Thanksgiving!
Day before Thanksgiving - 705
Day before Christmas - 1430
Day before thanksgiving - 538 views
Day before Christmas - 1241 views
OK - Thanksgiving is upon us and yesterday I received 549 views according to Mr. Analytics, which makes Prettydarkhorse the winner I think.
You can claim your prize any when you like.
Happy Thanksgiving.
YOOHOO< I am excited, what a prize for me. I have been in the kitchen for the past three hours already..
Happy thanksgiving! Thanks Mr Mark..
My pleasure. You know where to find me.
Way cool, Pretty! Enjoy the hot oil massage!
You and Misha always have an angle! I'm learning many useful things!
Congrats to PDH, but damn (!) I was hoping for a special favour, lol
Missed the first chance! 1274 for the second! I'll save the turkey neck for you, Mark!
Off the subject Mark, but have you ever tasted wild turkey? Not the whiskey of the same name, the bird!
Nope. Where I come from you catch them at the Super Market.
The breast from the wild turkey is usually all that is eaten because of the many tendons present in the other parts of the bird! You would be surprised at how delicious the meat is!
The difference is similar to how a wild Bob White quail is so much tastier than pen raised commercial quail! Both wild birds are unbelievable tasty! No wonder the pilgrims were so thankful when the natives brought them wild turkey for their thanksgiving feast!
Missed out on that when I was in the US. Ate lots of wild deer but no turkeys.
I buy free range organic turkeys, because the usual stuff tastes of nothing. Same with chickens. You can't even make a decent soup out of most chickens.
Most chickens raised for the market here go from chick to market in just a few weeks! They eat 24 hours a day and grow at an exceedingly fast rate! No wonder they don't taste very good!
Yep, venison is great. We just finished making our own link sausage and hamburger. We usually eat the tenderloins very quickly. Great on the grill! Venison filet mignon!
Now I am jealous. Been years since I had venison tenderloin.
The deer population here almost demands we harvest them to keep them in check! To give you an idea of how many there are, the bag limit is 12 per season. We are talking about 200+ lb animals in many cases, so imagine the size of the tenderloins!
Damn, now I'm hungry and it's still a couple of hours till the trough is filled!
congrats PDH!
Hope everyone enjoys a happy Thanksgiving!
we'll check back after Christmas, Mark, for our second chance.
Thanks everyone,
@Randy -- Hot oil massage is good but HP related is better, I am excited now...
Thanks Mr Mark.., now I am assured to earn millions, LOL..
Congrats, Prettydarkhorse! I missed out on Thanksgiving....but my guess for Christmas is 1255.

My traffic had been picking up in a gradual manner. I was happy with it. Suddenly yesterday one hub got almost 400 hits, it had been holding at just under 100 per day, which I thought was good. My total traffic is at an all-time high. This might sound like good news, but a similar thing happened...

Why do people put up Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving?
by Emilia 2 months ago
Hi,How feasible is it to earn 500$ + monthly from writing on hubpages? Is it possible from ad revenue alone? Or how should one go about mastering amazon links? (I've never had much luck with that aspect)Any tips/suggestions?I enjoy writing and my favorite niches are food, gardening, travel and...

I came back to HubPages earlier this year.I wrote on another account years ago as well. I think many of the changes has made HubPages better. 2011 HP was much different. There were no niche sites and hub moderation was bad. I seen a lot of 300 word hubs with bad spelling, capitalization, grammar...

When do you start decorating for Christmas? I see a lot of people who have already decorated atI have seen a lot of Christmas decorations up now before Thanksgiving, which I can understand, being they will have family to come and can enjoy the decorations a little longer, also being it takes...
