Why is nobody anywhere I've been online discussing who will become the new Idol?  Ok, Scotty or Lauren?  who is going to be?  my vote goes for Lauren, she's always been my favorite because she reminds me so much of my niece.

How about you?  Also, why does no one mention how much Scotty looks like Alfred E Neuman? the old Mad Mag guy   NO? - ok, that's mean.  Sorry.  I love the way he sounds, but I can't watch him sing.  In 10 years he'll be terrific, though.

Now I've done it.  I expect to get run out on a rail now.  lol

Mostly because the format of Idol is very Hollywood and way too much drama - roll

They need to do away with the judges-Ryan could do it himself.

      But...I love Lauren too ,she's a sweetheart.

Oh, I so agree!  At least they could change ALL the judges every year - I'm so tired of hearing Randy call men "Dawg" and he says almost exactly the same thing every freekin time!   Also, who says "amazing" as much as J Lo?  Can't say anything bad about Steven, except somebody (I forget who) said they were surprised to see Steven Tyler as a judge and that at first they thought he was some old lady!   hahahah!  lol

lol steven tyler lol im not allowed to say anything bad about tyler ,h'es hubby's man puleaseee  roll mid life crisis an all that.

(Isnt it weird how all the old rockers turn into horn toads)!

I used to like J'Lo ,cuz my butt wasnt as big lol but boy can she yap...an yap ...

Thats the thing they talked to much!! "Y'know we love you baby" gush, gush, puke...

Crazy good baby ,smack a duck an see what hatches??...ohhh hes sooo funny for 63 yr old.

I guess people are tired of this style of reality tv show? Yeah watching the contestants compete and develop over the series is fun but its getting to be same old, same old. Like Big Brother the Idol series should be put to bed. tongue

Because we didn't care? It's interesting to watch, occasionally, but overall-- so what?
Good luck to the performers-- may they live long and prosper. It doesn't affect the real lives of most people.

I have it on TV right now. I am pulling for Lauren! I picked her from her audition to win it and hope America gets it right and shes does!!!!!

Steven was a breath of fresh air - they could not keep him down - he would say F88ek as much as he wanted and when they acted all shocked he just gave them his rocker blank look - like "what?" and that was mainly what kept me coming back to see the show.  because they are trying so hard to turn talent into some kind of formula show - like the hollywood starmakers - it is repugnant.

But people like Casey come along and shake things up - he was so much fun with the stand up bass and the r&b jazzy folky voice and he stayed uniquely wild - loved that.   and James with his tail!  haha - altho they did get to him and that's why he didn't get to the finals - because he actually toned himself down to suit those one dimensional people like Randy and J Lo - man, can you believe i care this much?  haha  just shows how little I really have to think about!! lol  today, anyway.

At least this year was more about the contestants than in the past few years. I liked the format way better. Steve Tyler was awesome!
Seemed he and J-Lo became more "nice," no matter what, by the latter stages of the show though. Randy chosen to be the tougher judge.  That needs to change. In the auditions Steven and J-Lo were tougher/more honest with contestants. Need more of that in the live shows.

why do the judges care when they get booed for being critical?  they're soft.  But sometimes they were really weird about Haley - I think she made it so far in spite of the judges  = and she was a good singer and has a good style -  they wanted so much for a rock star, but they got country.  Maybe they should have to give scores like on Dancing with Stars - and they would have more influence then, but I wouldn't like it.

They do need to change the way the voting is done for sure!!! Another year of "Teen girls choosing the cutest boy" is going to hurt the show.
The Block-Voting should get a person blocked from voting!
I liked Haley. Her biggest fault was song choices at times. She has an amazing voice.

Lady GaGa...I love her new song!
Big star line-up tonight so far. Beyonce, Tim McGraw, Mark Anthony, Tom Jones, Kirk Franklin, Gladys Knight...and more to come I suspect.

Uh-oh! I see the controversy starting off of that ending to Lady Gaga's song performance!!!!!

You're in an earlier time zone - the show comes on here in another 1 1/2 hours - I'm looking forward to it - I've never ever picked the winner, but I think I have this year.

I'm not gaga about GaGa - but I see her appeal - the newest trend is to really shock people awake and she does that.  I feel so old when I hear the new music - such a fuddy duddy  I am.  I don't like to hear lyrics that are violent or shocking.

This year I thought most of the contestants were far better than many of the "pros" that came on to perform - really.  I can't wait to see tonights stars perform - sounds like a good line up.

people are so good about that - except my niece who usually says it on Facebook - but I don't care if I know - I don't care for surprises much.  I feel sure it will be Lauren but every season I feel sure and I'm never right   lol

You're all so right!  I'm so ashamed!  How lower class and mundane am I that I follow the A.I. show?  Well, that's just the way it is.  I don't drink, smoke or get to shake my booty much and believe me, if I could I would.  Is that what is considered "having a life"  (which, btw, is one of the grossest putdowns in modern times, and really not very nice to insinuate that just cuz I like a cheesy TV show I don't "have a life"?  - yes, I do, but it probably would bore y'all to tears!! I enjoy watching A.I. and hate almost all of the rest of TV, so sue me already! lol)  I enjoy watching people who can do stuff I can't (like singing) and who seem so comfortable in front of thousands of screaming people - it never ceases to amaze me - and they are so young too!   but, I did not enjoy watching Kristy Ally dance - that was just too weird for me, and yet many people were inspired by her.  We all have our own worlds, I guess.

lol, hey Mega! Haven't you figured out yet that for those of us that don't fall in line with the thoughts, ways and attitudes of certain people's ideas that WE don't have lives? Only they do.  tongue

      1. mega1 profile image78
mega1posted 13 years agoin reply to this

yes, I guess I knew that - and I'm supposed to be really shamed that I have a couple hours to watch young people sing!  The critics around here are so sure they are better - I critique things too, for instance the judges on A.I. don't seem real smart to me, and I'm not watching without reservations - but hey, entertainment is just entertainment.  The greatest thing about it is that it DOESN't really affect the rest of my life!  I like a little frivolity now and then.  I refuse to be politically and socially correct all the time and have everything I do and watch have some impact or meaning.  If you can't relax your mind and just enjoy for awhile sometimes, you may be courting an ulcer and at the very least, you have lost touch with the child in you.  I advise that we all just lighten up and next time you're walking unencumbered, skip a little!  It feels soooooo good!  lol

        1. Michael Willis profile image68
Michael Willisposted 13 years agoin reply to this

We all have to find ways to relax. I have stresses, but I do not let them rule my life. I am relaxed when I was shows like AI. I am a musician and have worked with people in music, especially singers in youth groups. So, I really enjoy AI, The Sing-off, AGT and so far The Voice.
One thing I do not enjoy or endure is people putting down others because they can relax and enjoy some of their life!
I am with you on discussing AI. Even though the one I believed was the best singer came in 2nd. lol

right - I always pick the second place one to be winner.  I think Scotty was just so outstandingly different - that boyishness combined with that big voice, he made a big impression.  It was one of the best seasons, I thought.

    2. Rafini profile image82
Rafiniposted 13 years agoin reply to this

I'm with you, Mega.  I love to watch talent at work, and I mean real talent not autotuned or hyped up recordings, but the real deal like you get with Scotty and Lauren.  Can't stand the other type of reality show - like Survivor.  That's all about deceit and manipulation.  Why on earth should I watch something like that?  It's nothing to celebrate or reward!

DWTS - Sometimes I like to watch, most times not.  It depends on who's on the show, lol, and if I think I care. hmm lol

mega1posted 13 years agoin reply to this

I don't understand the "reality" shows or people's interest in such extremism - I like talent though.  I've been wishing for awhile that we could have an updated variety-type show, like in my youth when the crooners and the comedians put on skits and elaborate staged songs and the celebs were so glamorous and kind of out of reach - I miss that.

really?  and Laugh-In?  I miss Dinah Shore, Perry Como, and Carol Burnett!!  I don't want to see shows exactly like that now, but something updated that would let us see variety.  I am a bit tired of the Black-Eyed Peas, however!  smile

i wish Barbara Mandrell still had her show. I know she wanted the change, but she had a great Saturday evening show that was fun to watch. I also loved watching the Carol Burnett show.

me too!  I probably shouldn't admit this....but....lol, I like watching the infomercials that try selling DVD's of the Carol Burnett Show. lol  Can't afford to purchase, but Love seeing what I can!!

haha!  Me too!  I even like the Dean Martin infomercials - he was pretty funny!

Barbara Mandrell - I missed that one. I would have liked it. There was a period of time when I refused to watch any TV and for awhile I didn't even have one.  This is when I lost most of my friends because I was too weird for them.  So, for me to be discussing a pop TV show - its kinds unheard of!  Who could host such a variety show these days?  Maybe if Ryan Seacrest had a show kind of like Ed Sullivan's show?  ya think?

            1. Rafini profile image82

I think he just might be able to handle it!  lol

I never saw Dean Martin's show...my mom must not have liked him. lol  Watched Hee Haw every week, and Barbara Mandrell too!  Sonny & Cher, Donny & Marie.   big_smile

But, could anyone handle a variety show?  I dunno...seems like everyone's too concerned with their sexualized image to make a fool of themselves just for the heck of it. hmm

Hi!  Yes!  unplugged!  the real world!  I envy you that - I don't get control of the main tv around here so its usually on in the background.  Not my choice.  But the good thing is that my roommate here has earphones now, so I don't have to hear it all the time anymore.  I guess I'm not really discussing A.I. anymore, huh.  smile

        Good to see ya SOH!

Mega, someone offered a potential answer to your question.  Why insult them at such length and make such nasty assumptions? I personally did have something better to do over the last few weeks, a vacation visiting historic sights across the United States, sorry--no ass shaking or booze involved.

Each one of us today have limited free time. Each one of us uses that free time to reduce stress differently. Do not defend your choices. You have a right to them because 1) we are all different people 2) variety is the spice of life. Also, I always wonder why some people swoop in with short answers then fly out again! You should too! I miss Carol Burnett, Dinah Shore, The Osmonds - Donny and Maria and all that old stuff. However, change is the one constant that is guaranteed in life ( Ever hear that one!)
