Am I wasting my time here?

In the two days or so since joining HP, I have seen plenty fo people in the forums saying that their traffic is down - websites and Hubs - because of pandas, Google and HP T&C breaches, duplicate issues, censorship, and issues with the proper crediting of images.

One fifty word flash fliction piece I posted attracted a message that it was "substandard". I ended up adding a foreword to get rid of the warning message.

Am I wasting my time trying to build up my writing and a following here if these problems are as widespread as they sound?

    Help! yikes

Have you considered submitting your short stories to literary magazines?  I know HubPages allows this type of material, but you would probably get more literary exposure in a literary venue. smile

There are so many sites competing with Hubpages right now. It is difficult for them I guess

There will be a lot of people who don't have the ability to earn here and then there are going to be the exceptions.

Are you wasting your time? Only if you want to maintain what looks like an already negative attitude. Yes, it is common knowledge that many people have had problems and it's simply their own fault more than anything else. And, yes Panda did have something to do with many of the problems earlier this year and for some their problems still persist.

However, it shouldn't have anything to do with you. You are new to HubPages. The best thing for you to do is to read the FAQ's page and go through the Learning Center. If you haven't read the TOS(terms of service), then do so.

Don't treat HubPages like you would a blog, it will only frustrate you and make you want to leave, because HubPages isn't a social networking site nor is a blogger type site.

Other than that, enjoy your time here.

You should read the FAQ and guidelines,

    http://hubpages.com/faq/

The site does have content standards.

Hi, Relache. Yes, I did that when I signed up. It just seems that a lot of people have a lot of hassles for one reason or another.

So far I have not encountered any problems. It takes a lot to make me give up.

I don't think investing time on HubPages is a waste if you can contribute original evergreen content and trending news. It is true that the first Panda hit us badly but the Hubpages Team were very supporting and came up with the sub domain switch idea which has benefited at least 80% of the Writers. Also the HP Ads compensated for the loss of revenue from Google. I have not seen or been in any Site where the Team members are so supportive.

Thank you all for your advice and comments. I am going to stick it out here and see how it goes.

Just because others have had problems does not mean that I will.

@paxwill... Thank you for the suggestion. I could try my fiction, poetry, etc there, and my articles here on HP.

Thanks again to you all big_smile

At hub pages you'd do better writing something that people search for. Fiction they won't find you as they'll need to think like you to find you

I doubt that fiction earns much.

I think it depends on your goals. I can see why it would be demoralising if you feel that you are restricted by the site, or being told that your content is not in line with what is acceptable. I say, stick with it for a while longer and see how you feel about it after a few weeks.
