Hello Hubbers!!
It looks like our Wikipedia page has not been updated since October of this year- would any of you be interested in spiffing it up? HubPages employees can't update the page themselves, but community members can!
If you are an established Wikipedia editor or contributor, we would especially like your help, though anyone can contribute- just be sure to leave out any promotional language and to follow the rules of the site when it comes to proper citation.
If you are willing to update some things for us on Wikipedia, here are some things that you might consider these points:
*In addition to embedding videos, external links, and reader surveys, authors can also embed photos and maps.
*To help people improve their online writing skills, we offer a Learning Center, contests, HubChallenges, and the Weekly Topic Inspiration program.
*We no longer include Kontera contextual ads as an option on Hubs
*Through the HubPages Ad program, HubPages serves ads from premium ad partners on Hubs in addition to AdSense Ads
*The way payment works on HubPages is now fairly different because of the HubPages Earnings Program (Hubbers still get paid by Google and Amazon directly, but through the HubPages Earnings Program, for example)
*We now have 24 people on our team (not 20)
Big thanks to anyone who takes a second to keep our Wikipedia page up to date!
I'm off to improve the Wikipedia page. Will work on it in small chunks in the next few days.
I have never written any information on Wikipedia, but this is a good reason to start. Any pointers for an easy approach?
To be honest, I have not either, so I am not the best person to ask! I just know it's not cool to edit one's own page, which really does make perfect sense
I'd be happy to help, but my fees are a bit steep. Kidding (about the latter part). Let me know what I can do.
Thanks wordscribe43! Just keeping the occasional eye out for the page would be much appreciated... since after a while it gets a bit out of date ^_^
Can do! I wasn't aware that employees weren't allowed to make updates to their company's wiki page but the rule does make perfect sense. I'll keep an eye on this for any further updates you guys would like added, ESP citations. Unfortunately my current Wikipedia account doesn't have many updates. (I abandoned my other wiki account because I didn't care much for the sn.)
Need anything else, just shoot me a note and I'll be glad to help.
I thought I will update and saw that it is already updated. I did small edits. I updated the employee number underneath the Key people. Whoever edited it had put 'To help people improve their online writing skills, Hubpages offer a Learning Center, contests, HubChallenges, and the Weekly Topic Inspiration program. Hubpages no longer include Kontera contextual ads as an option on Hubs. The way payment works on HubPages is now fairly different because of the HubPages Earnings Program (Hubbers still get paid by Google and Amazon directly, but through the HubPages Earnings Program, for example)
Hubpages now has 24 people on our team.' in reference section which I shifted to 'Structure'. Also it should not be 'our team' but their team as the edit is made as an outsider. Anything else needs to be done?
I'm curious why you'd feel it necessary to say HubPages no longer offer Kontera?
Surely the section called "Structure" should reflect the way the site is structured today.
If you feel it's important to have a historical record of how HubPages used to be run (e.g. change in payment method, Kontera, individual webpages instead of sub-domains etc etc) then that should be in the History section, but I'd have thought it wasn't really important enough to be worth mentioning?
There's really no need to mention that we no longer offer Kontera- it's just inaccurate that the page should mention us offering it when we no longer do.
OK, Simone, I added some information or rather clarified it a bit. Hope it helps.......
No problems... they use me a lot and were really interested to hear that HP also provides the Best Internet Christmas Party of all the sites courted by Google, HP Sauce Inc. and Fox (or was it ABC?)
Happy to help... When's the party????
Simone
How may Hubbers currently use Hubpages? How has that grown compared to 5 years ago.
We currently have 231,484 published users. Hmmm- I'm not sure what that number was five years ago. That said, a bit over six years ago, there were NO users!
"HubPages is where writers can park diagonally in a parallel universe."
Attribution: <snipped self-promotional link>
"HubPages is where the quickest bunnies in the forest hangout."
Attribution: same as previous post.
Hubpages has a forum where Hubbers come together to voice their opinions on God and other fascinating topics
And just why in the hell have I not been following you? I thought I was. I fixed that. Don't follow me back though. If you do, then current consensus says we are both weenies.
Can I?
They not publish me text coz stoop I am.
Can I at least participate in a debate and talk withopinions. I've never made an habit with blogging but I'm trying to get involve.
Where are you?
Thanks for your help everyone! I appreciate the little changes.

Is it true that the 60/40 model only applies after HubPages pays their expenses? Because I have expenses too... I don't see why we should suffer because HubPages wants 40% to be pure profit AFTER their expenses.

Currently I'm signed up with Google Adsense and I've been debating whether I should sign up for the Hubpages Earning Program because I'm hesitant to give out my tax information. Or should I worry about this only after I have a decent amount of traffic coming to my hubs?
