I feel the need to clear up some feedback on my profile picture, I did not post it to say look at me, I look so good and don't you wish your boyfriend is hot like me kind of thing.
I posted my profile picture in defiance, to send out a message to people who are ill or just dicovered they are ill.
My message is saying don't let illness or troubles in you life stop you from doing what you want to do. I see so many sick people give up so to speak when there is no need to.
Just keep going forward regardless of what your situation is. Being as I have sent out a mixed message with my profile picture, I will give Hubbers a chance to vote.
Should my profile picture stay or go and why? This is a serious question not a game.
Contstructive Comments on this question please not personal attacks! Thank You.
Its your pic your choice. So my vote is neutral
I like you pic, I thinki t's hot! I prefer it to some weird avatar.
It's just to work on the number beside it and for that you can get advice.
MP50 - Keep your photo as it is. Without reading your profile I would imagine that you are a fitness trainer or an athletic person who enjoys being outside. It says alot about your personality. After reading your profile and your hubs. We realize there is more to the story. Its inspirational. Its better than having a unhappy face on your profile looking for sympathy. Your a winner and a fighter. That profile pictures speaks to those ideals. It makes your hubs all the more meaningful. I say keep the picture.
Since you have it for the reasons you've said, I think you should make a simple, similar, statement about just that in your profile - and leave the picture. I think a lot of us have one concern or another about how someone may interpret the picture we choose. Since yours has the meaning for you that it does, I think that's worth mentioning (rather than leaving that meaning to "guessers" and "assumers".
Personally, I'm a big fan of being a fighter in this world and in this life. It's all any of us has sometimes, and sometimes it's what makes the difference between surviving (physically, mentally, emotionally) and not; and I think sending that message is an important one.
Hey MP50, I've been an admirer of yours for quite some time, and still think of you and wonder how you are doing health wise. I'd say leave the photo alone! It's SO nice to see you here. Keep in touch, OK?
Thank You Mary.
So nice to hear from you again, you are a pleasure to talk to.
Kind Regards
Mark and Family xxx.
Hi MP50. As far as I am concerned, it is your HP account, your work, your profile, your business. If people have a problem with your profile picture, then the problem is theirs. It makes a lot more sense than some profile pictures that I have seen in my short time here. I have a picture of my dog, because it relates to my HP non d'modem. You know why you chose your picture, and that is all that matters. I wish you all the best with your health and a speedy recovery
I hadn't looked at your profile before seeing this thread. However, I had seen your picture come up on forum threads I read. I simply assumed it was a photo of you enjoying yourself in the sea.
I don't think it is a "poser" picture at all. After all, when men swim in the sea, they are usually bare-chested, so I don't see why anyone would have a problem with it.
I did not read anything further into your photo except to think that you obviously like to keep fit. The only thing I wondered about was why you'd put your ID across it like a huge tattoo (or is it indeed a tatoo?).
Having read your profile, I can only offer massive congratulations for the obstacles you are overcoming.
I agree. To me it just looks like you enjoy water sports.
Keep the picture.
The only thing that bothers me is the tattoo. I hope and assume that it is not real.
The tattoo is not real. Hope we can agree to disagree....Thank You so much for your comment.
Well, that's good. I don't know that you needed to take it off (although HubPages and their images policy might, I suppose).
I just hate when I see young people with large tattoos - I can't help thinking that they will regret them later in life.
There's also the very real prejudice people have against them - they are often seen as a "low class" or "low intelligence" marker and especially so when carried to extremes. I don't share that prejudice, but I've heard it expressed often.
I have a 65 year old neighbor who told me in all seriousness that he's considering getting a large tattoo of Jesus on his back. That just seems so very, very odd to me, but if it floats his boat, he's certainly old enough to make that decision. I don't know who will ever see it, but I guess that doesn't matter to him.
It's your image, reasons are yours and should not matter to anyone. Especially for the reasons which you have stated which are noble and inspiring at the same time. So more power to you!!!!!
Keep your photo as is! I read your bio and there I thought your photo was to show that your illness is not a hindrance to your life. And I was right about it. Others are just too negative, don't be shaken by them.
well, leave the photo alone. I don't think there is wrong in posting pictures like that. You don't have to be conscious about other people has to say. )
Hi MP50, I think you should definitely keep your current profile picture. You know why you chose the pic that you did and it's an awesome reason. I'm sorry to hear that anyone gave you trouble about it.
My opinion is that you work hard to attain that look. There is nothing bad about feeling good on what you have achieve. Jut my 2 cent worth.
Dude, if I was your age and in that kind of shape - I'd never consider using any other picture on any site.
LMAO! Keep it! Be who you are! @Pcunix, what is wrong with the "tatoo"?
If my photoshop eyes serve me right, it was added text to the picture. Tattoo's, are a form of art and expression. That is exactly what this pic is, a form of self expression. But only MP50 can clear that up.
@MP50...still laughing at "boyfriend was hot like me."
Good for you MP50...I say keep it, thats who you are, that's your identity, and I wish I only had half of your will power through being sick..I have been ill for 6 years, and let me tell you, it takes a toll.. thats why I like to write. No one knows who you are and you can "hide" your true identity if you wish. In other words, I may write sitting on my couch feeling horrible, but no one knows it. So, cheers to you and if you are, in my mind, a better person. God Bless
I seriously and sincerely wish you well with your health problems, and additionally would like to plead with you to leave your profile picture up as it is, not least because you have the kind of body most women drool over, and most men are envious of.
Now I'm considering taking a pic of my tattoo to use as my profile pic.
You look very healthy, happy and fit in your photo - it would never occur to me that you were being at all conceited. Having read your profile, I like it even more and I admire your courage and positive attitude. Besides, I live in Hawaii, where shirtless men are commonplace!
Why the hell would anyone bother to comment on someone else's avatar? Our avatars are as varied as we are. Even if you posted it to say 'look at me' so what.
You Go! MP! I think that it is a great profile picture. It shows how a person can persevere even in the worst of times. It gives inspiration to all of us. In fact, I think that 90% of us would like to say that we would have that much faith and strength.

I've been debating this for a week or so now...Do you guys prefer to use a picture of you or a picture of something else?I see that many of you use picitures of yourselves, your children, spouses, pets, or other miscellaneous pictures. Is there a benefit to using a particular type of...

Why do some users use celebrity pictures as their profile picture?
by Carolee Samuda 13 years ago
I know a lot of people will say that this isn't necessary but wouldn't it help reduce spammers. Admit it, most of the people on HP who spam are without a bio and avatar. I know there are some sock pockets that go through the extra trouble to create real-looking accounts but I am sure that after a...

Does a person's profile picture influence if you will follow them or how you think of them?
by Missy 12 years ago
Sorry if this is a silly question, but I'm completly new to hubpages and trying to learn my way around. There is a number on the bottom right of my profile picture that is different everyday, just wondering what it represents? and what does it mean if it's going up? Thanks
