To have a happy life we must do good things to the others. There´s no other happiness like the joy of doing the good to other people. And of course, if you do good things to other people you´ll receive good things from them too. There´s no better happiness than this one.

A happy life, well, what does one define as "happy"?  Just as 'common sense' is not the same to everyone, though we may like to believe it is, or 'Normal' even that word is ready to be questioned now-a days.  Happy? as defined by this single, homosapien with a few decades under her belt.  Is to know yourself, know your likes your dislikes.  To become your own best friend, so when you want happiness, you know where to find it.

I like water, I like animals, I don't like to drink.  Would I be happier hangin in the barn on a friday night compared to out at a bar? Absolutely!  Is that normal?  Well, depends on whom you ask.  To me, yah, it is normal, if I had a barn. . .LOL!

I guess it took me awhile to find out that I truly knew myself the best.  I noticed I was always looking outside myself for that some one or that some thing that would make me happy.  Did I ever find it? sometimes. . .was it temporary? always. . .Why? because it didn't come from me.  Now when I'm alone, and I'll admit, it seems a bit too often.  I ask myself, what do I want to do to be happy.  And sometimes the simplest answer comes up, gimme a bubble bath! smile

Hey, I think I shared a secret of life with you today, what do you think?

I want to add, as a postscript, that for me, it has never been about materialistic qualities, that made, or make me happy, I look to nature to the life in this world, and try to thrive with it, to allow change, to be energized by it.  It's not easy, but nothing I've seen worth living through, ever is.  To treat others the way in which you wish to be treated is always safe, that way you don't pile up regrets that haunt you when its time to sit still in life, and enjoy your happiness.  Peace. . .be well and prosper! LOL

Still applies today. I'd say not too shabby an answer if it would still be the same seven years later!

I agree with both of you. A happy life is what you believe it is, not a life everyone wants you to have and not what someone has planned out for you. I love clothes, and alot of things but that does not mean i have to get them from the most expensive place and be in debt for those things...i think if they were to be gone by tommorow i would be okay and would just worry about my health, appearance and where i have to go next. I have never looked at the opposite sex for money or for support and never looked at looks or anything like that. I think a happy life is about you, the people that support you and dont try to change you and also the simple things in life.

Of all the things which wisdom provides to make us entirely happy, much the greatest is the possession of friendship.

A happy life is whatever your pereception of a happy life is.  It's personal to everyone.  My friends idea of a happy life is to get married and have a big family and be surrounded by good friends.

Whereas another friends idea of a happy life is to have a career and the ability to buy lots of material things.

Having great/amazing people in your life, regardless of their short comings.  Blessed to have a loving family and spending quality time with people that care for each other.  Being financially wealthy, having a loving immediate family, that is well protected and healthy!!!  That makes life grand as well as happy!!!

You have a 'happy life', when you feel comfortable with yourself without depending in this from outside conditions or happenings. When you have realized, that you are not alone, but connected with all existence of creation in a very subtle sense. You have a happy life, when not identified excessively with your body, mind and emotions and you are connected with a state of being that goes beyond your personality with all ones properties on all levels. It makes a happy life, when you can share your energy with all beings around, enjoying yours and their existence.

All Great Answers! I believe that happiness comes when you decide that you are going to create it. When you make the decision that you're not going to wait for some outside circumstance to unfold for you to be happy, but instead that you are going to use your innate ability to create the kinds of experiences you truly want in your life.

I believe that a true connection with other human beings adds directly to happiness, I believe that seeking out and finding NEW things to engage in adds to your personal happiness and I am certain that contributing, helping other people in some way, loving both yourself and others as well as truly moving towards something in your life, in terms of goals, adds directly to that thing we all want, that some of us get by creating it, "happiness."

Happiness is a choice!  It comes within.  No one else can make you happy if you do not want to be happy. And...even if everyone around you is depressed, hateful or angry, you have the power to soar above all that and find peace.

We hear others say "Oh, I am so unhappy...I need more money".
On down the road, they have money, and still they lament "Oh, I am so miserable, I have gained weight".  After a weight loss, then its something else. Some people just like the attention that unhappiness brings.

Ask yourself this question.  How do I feel when I do something kind for someone else?  How do I feel when I give freely, in secret, to another person?  It feels good. That - is happiness.

Happiness is different things to different people.

My opinion of a happy life is being loved and accepted unconditionally by my family.  My little dog (shih ztu) adds to my happy life with his love and his adorable little personality. My youngest son (39) brought my happiness back to me after my oldest son died when he invited me to move in with him.

Its difficult to feel happiness when you lose a family member or loved one.  Replacing pain with "giving" back to others really does help.

We can always find someone who is so much worse off then we are.  Taking time to add up all our blessings helps us to see how much we have (not material things, necessarily) and that adds to our happiness.

Being grateful brings me a happy life.  When I begin to complain about my "bad back" and the pain I endure - I think about someone in a wheelchair that will never use her back, as she has no legs.

Your question is wonderful and thought-provoking.  Thank you for asking.

    Have a happy life.

I am strongly believe that in the end I am answerable what I do. A happy life for me is to live with a clear conscience and contentment that I have done the best I could with the gift of time, strength and opportunities I got.
