What is the wisest advice you have ever heard, received, or told somebody else?

I love "wisdom in a nutshell"...something profound, practical, and something you can remember!  What nugget of wisdom do you have to share?

I heard it from I Vietnam vet. We were discussing  the fact the my husband has severe PTSD and won't open up and talk to me about what all he saw and did during his deployments. In fact, none of the deployments has he talked about what he seen or heard.
The old vet just looked at me kind of weird like and stated matter of factly " Honey, if you knew what he did, saw you would never be the same person again. He is keeping quiet to protect you." It all seemed to click at that minute.

"Your mind is your servant if you train it right."  I am not sure if that's the wisest thing I've ever heard or passed on to other people, but it is certainly up there.

The inference is if we do not train our mind to be our servant it endeavors to become our master.  The big problem, of course, is that many, if not most people, think they are their mind,   Once we become aware that we are not, we are already on our way to something far more important - Self Realization.

    Advice in a convo ...

"You should just forgive yourself" a friend said to me.
"and why would I do that" I had asked her
"so you can get on with your life" she said.
