Are spirits real or do we just like to believe it so we don't miss our loved ones so much?

I totally believe they are real because I have had periodic visits from my grandpa and a great uncle (I never met in life) who have told me things in dreams I couldn't have known otherwise.

When I told my own mother some of these things she was floored that I knew them.

So yes, there is a lot we don't understand about what is beyond the physical realm of existence, but I know in my mind/heart that there is another realm.

Hard to tell, all supernatural things that exist really have scientific reason behind it, nothiing supernatural about it.  However, we create myth for stuff we don't understand.  So whether there is something after death or not, whether that something is spirit or not.  It is difficult to say.  My theory in regards to spirit is energy transfer, it is scientifically proven that energy can't be create or destroy but transform from one form of energy to another.  Human body's nurve system and brain, run on electricity just like household appliance.  My theory is that the spirit we talk about are the energy our body use, which transfer from one person to another, but are never created or destroyed

A few days after my sister passed away, I heard her voice tell me good-bye and I felt her hug me. This was not my imagination. My whole body was covered in goose bumps in May in SW Florida. She is very much alive in a different plane but I know she still exists in some type of spirit form.

The word 'spirit' means 'wind' or 'moving air'. The ancients didn't know what air was.

You need to read my hub "Death Is Not My Enemy".  It will explain "spirits" to you clearly.

By my study of existence and interpretation of a vision I was given I will say there is but one spirit that permeates every physical manifestation but there could be 700 million - in many of my writings I suggest 700 million, as I call spirit, "Timelines". Timelines are the sequence every manifestation incarnates on earth or metamorphose on other planes.

The vision was only a giant ball of string without ends and when I came out of it spirit revealed that as existence - neither all nor my own individual's was said is why I use 700 million as 10% for civilization's end population - which has no beginning nor end.

After being revealed I was my own son, his son of the same name and my parents with daddy having my first name because of karma - reaping and sowing - I sought how is that possible. I used the "giant ball of string" as an infinity folding back and forth in our earth plane existence. Some philosophies call that multiple incarnations.

We enter earth as, using Genesis 1, water until we have manifested as every drop of water we will use during our earthen sojourn before incarnating as matter, microbes, plants, insects, birds, fish, and all other animals before becoming man. As man we incarnate as every attribute and condition seen and unseen among man before all of that information is brought to our remembrance when we become one of the "10 virgins" [10% of today's population meaning in our timelines is 10% of all of earth and of its life types] (Matthew 25:1-13).

Therefore the only reason we miss our love ones so much is because we haven't learned to live without attachments.
