    Yes, because it's his job...  Most of us may not know what each other's jobs entail (e.g., I don't know your job and you don't know mine...), but everyone under the sun knows that a captain is suppose to be the last one to abandon ship..., so to answer your question, yes!

    By definition the captain has ultimate responsibility for the ship. Yes - he should be the last to leave if it starts to sink

    Not the very last.  The captain is responsible for the lives of the people on the boat.  They are supposed to make sure the other people get out.  So they should be one of the last people to leave.  Once they can no longer do anything to help I think they should leave instead of waiting to die.
