   To all thinkers & other logically inclined folks out there, what makes some people think and act
   
   in ways that are contrary to reason, intelligence, and logic?  Why do these same people cling to beliefs and mores that have no intellectual basis, acting and thinking at the basest, instinctive level? What makes some people quite hesitant of using logic, reasoning, and intelligence when presenting their premise?

   From your own opinion and view this exist, but to think others should feel and think the same is being small mined and inconsiderate.  I think what makes the world
   wonderful is variety just like in the taste of clothes , food, music, why are people dictate their choices over others , God is the one one who gave us freedom, why do people misuse it , and say you are not smart because you should think like me. Sad.

      If a person is fouled mouth , repulsive , inconsiderate, hateful,  I certainly believe in censorship, because if the power is in my hands to wash the mouth with soap as example then good as done. To add then they have lost respect and creditability

   The thing is, none of those components are objective fact. People have different ideas of what it means to use reason, be intelligent, and think logically. So just because YOU find something or someone to lack those chracteristics doesn't mean the judgment is an absolute truth.
   
   It's an "in my opinion" situation if we're simply talking about beliefs. For example, I think your frequent generalizations lack those qualities you mention. You obviously don't. Different folks, different strokes.
   
   
   As for being contrary in a more obvious, behavioral sense: people get angry, frustrated, flustered, tired, drunk, ill, and so on.

   I do understand the power of a book. Books are places that we can go to in our minds that make us want to be better people, learn new things, and imagine perfect worlds.
   But I do not understand the "power" of the Christian bible. It's badly written, jumbled together stories, ideas that were only relevant 2,000 years ago, and filled with horror and death.
   And yet, it still "inspires" people to think illogically, throw out their reasoning abilities, and deny basic logic and common sense.
   Some people try to live their lives according to the bible or other ancient holy book even when it is proven nonsense. The ideas contained are highly illogical, unscientific, and just plain WRONG. But people cling to these things like they are magic that will cure all the world's ills. But the truth is that religious dogma is the SOURCE of most of the world's ills.
   Ban the Bible! Or at least re-write the damn thing.

      Are you truly in favor of censorship? I'm curious. You don't run into many writers who would say to ban or rewrite a book, nor blame it for the world's problems.

      In the real world, Amanda, censorship exists and is quite prevalent among "believers". The bible itself was put together by the council of Nicea and a whole lot of censorship took place In order to skew it towards the Catholics. Censorship exists.

      To add again there are copies of the bible , just like we have copies of Famous Art , like Picasso,  dali, and many , does that mean we do not have the real art of subject. We do not have original but we have the mind of the Artist.

      Austinstar, of course it exists - among ALL GROUPS. But that's like saying, "Well, life isn't fair!" Just because something happens, doesn't mean we accept it. Anyway, my question was not, "Does censorship exist?" but rather "Do YOU support it?"

      Yes, I am in favor of censorship. It's also called good editing. Insults, lies, bad writing, yes, it should all be censored/edited. Dumb question.

       Then since the bible is very clear about human existence and you are saying it is an illusion. Then all things said by you as a human would also be a  illusion as well.

       Some physicists do believe that our consciousness is indeed a delusion. It just depends on which delusion you accept as your reality. To biz - yes, there are dumb questions. And you too believe in censorship. So that makes u dumb too.

       Austin, censorship suppresses knowledge by denying access to varying world views. So that certainly isn't intelligent, now is it? Unless you think everyone needs to believe exactly as you do, in which case you're denying independent thinking.

       Amanda, you are living in a fantasy world. The news is censored, books are censored, and even word of mouth is censored. It's a tool. Some use it for good and some use it for nefarious purposes. Look up the meaning of the word.

       Austin, for the LAST TIME (please try to actually read my words) I am NOT disagreeing about the existence of censorship. I am condemning it. I do not believe that something "existing" means embracing it. I certainly don't embrace murder, for example.

       By "condemning it", you are showing your own censorship. Like I said, it's a tool to be used, not a thing to be hated. You can use it properly, or just keep trying to insist on getting YOUR way.

       The bible through centuries have always had its opposer ,no one can succeed in getting rid of it.
       It is of a devine spiritual origin past this planet. Just as you can not mess with the sun, stars, or moon, the bible is the same it widely spreaded

   I studied psychology for 30 years or so. My conclusion: The human species is dumber than they think they are.
   Think about it: Why wouldn't a temporarily successful species think it is God's gift to the world? Perhaps that too is just a myth.

      Actually, it's generally accepted in Christian churches that the world and its beauty is God's gift to *us*. We are not the gift. We are very aware of the faults of humanity and how very small and imperfect we all are.

      Well, among free thinkers and scientists, the universe belongs to every species that exists in it. You believe that your god created everything, I believe in the thing that "created" your god. Mankind is but one lowly species In the universe.

   I have had a run in with several people like that on HP. Recently, one presented her opinions as facts. Her resources included YouTube, Facebook, and articles about the specific opinion she had about these historical events. One of her sources even contradicted her stance, but she took one quote out of context to use it to her advantage. When I questioned her, she said she can't believe people like me don't know history and everything she wrote about was common knowledge to the general public. She even said that people like me were trying to change history for our own agenda. Every time I would present a fact, she would call it diatribe and say I just wanted to argue.
   
   Later I offered facts from unbiased resources, such as historian David McCullough, the US Constitution, and the Declaration of Independence.  Even with these facts, right in front of her, she still denied them and then began to delete my comments. She even stooped so low as to tell other Hubbers she banned me for abusive behavior and that she feared for her life. When I told her to re-approve my so-called abusive comments, she said she had permanently deleted them and could not pull them back up.
   
   I have no problem with having my comments deleted, but when people not only deny logic, but also slander me and suppress the truth without reason except to further own agenda then something is wrong with that person. They have no heart, no integrity, no self-respect, and no respect for human life.
