I get British have their traditions or whatever and I don't mean to offend anyone, but all over the US media is the "royal" baby news. We have so many important things we could discuss and I have seen "royal baby" anticipation for weeks on end. It's irritating. Babies have been born by the billions. Someone help me understand why this kid is inherently more special just because Kate had her? I don't get this mindset of idolizing certain people. What do Royals contribute to modern society? Why does the US media pay so much attention to it? Again, no offense, I truly want to understand!

lol, some celebrities I'm sure do - but the royals? What exciting, ground breaking thing have any of them done? I see them as the richest welfare recipients on earth adding another dependent. Maybe I'm wrong.. I just don't get it lol.
It's lazy media if you ask me, pay attention to frivolous BS and distracting people with silliness when the world has real problems they could be covering but don't. Ironically the BBC is a much better news outlet than most American media.
Yep I definitely agree - one story and a photo fine - days and days of it - ugh...
agreed, if it was just a birth announcement fine - but our media has been going on and on about it for weeks. It's a birth for heaven's sakes! :) Millions more will occur around the world, none of them will be news.
true people can idolize whoever they want. Royal "news" in the US media irritates me. It's irrelevant yet front page, not relegated to celebrity gossip sections where it belongs. It's presented as though it were actually important news; it's not.
I agree with you. What boggles my mind is why so many people continue to buy into it in this day and age.
Yes, but the good news is that an increasing number of people are waking up to this now. This is indicated even in the top two answers from Stacie L and Akriti Mattu.
True. I think of the history of this family and how they've attained their "status" through robbing the citizens for centuries and I am baffled how Brits not only subsidize the monarchy still, but don't rise up against it and all it has stood for.
What I don't get-- besides the points you've made about the British aristocracy-- is why sports figures are worshiped inspite of mostly playing children's games and being paid enormous sums of money-- and often living extravagantly.
I agree. Kate is pretty much a brood mare, what other purposes does she actually serve? I know that sounds harsh, but it angers me that these people suck up resources and attention and for what? they serve no actual use.
lol I hear you and I hate them too, but we don't subsidize them the way the British do the royals. Could you imagine being taxed to support the Kartrashians? I think it's more what the "royals' represent that irks me about it the most.
I'll never understand why anyone gives a crap about the stupid Khardashian family, and that crazy Bruce Jenner.
